Content Post Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

A reasoned prediction:

It feels wrong to me to keep Wolf after what he did to the offense, but fans are usually quicker to pull the trigger than owners.

I agree, and with Thornton too:

MayoNays unfortunately stays. So does AVP.

The OL & WRs coaches, however, ALL Must GO.

The RBs & TEs coaches can stay.

On defense, the college WR from Samford MUST GO.

As well as the Safeties & CBs coaches, aka the Last of Bill's Friends & Family Plan.

And, needless to add: the very First Firings on Black Monday should be - nay, MUST BE - those of Ron Wolf's & Al Groh's shockingly incompetent children.

If we are stuck with Mayo. Then they should clean house. Give me Daboll at OC and Saleh as the DC. Then let them fill out their coaching staffs. Two ex-HC who have had a lot of success in this league as coordinator's who can give Mayo some advice and/or let him be the CEO he so desperately wants to be. He can be Stuart Smalley walking around telling everyone how awesome and special they are. Then have his weekly Tea with Robert!

I'd take Saleh in a heartbeat. I think AVP will serve Drake best for another year. Whether he (or Mayo) is a keeper beyond that remains to be seen.

Consider starting 2025 with
1) keeping AVP to continue to develop Maye
2) hire a someone to call plays on Offense
3) re-sign Hooper
4) signing a top LT, RT, and WR.
5) upgrade a coach or two on Offense (IMO, we posters haven't a clue with regard to who we should keep).

This will give us an average Offense. Yes, we could probably also use a 2nd WR and a backup center.

For example, how can WE evaluate the OL coach considering that the talent there and the injuries gave him almost no chance. From where I sit, he gave us a stable OL that protected Maye and has allowed him to develop. The situation could have turned out much worse for Maye. he took players off the street and has them performing in an almost acceptable way, players like Jacobs and Brown.

Dan Campbell was laughed at his first go round in Miami. Now his team is superbowl bound out the NFC most likely. Either Mayo's going to become a better coach or he won't be long for the NFL simply put.

Great stuff. I believe Tyler Hughes is out as WR coach. I feel the organization will add some veteran coaches on defense to support Covington. I have no problem with AVP as the OC and play caller. He's given Drake more on his plate to handle.. remember AVP even admitted he hasn't even utilized the entire play sheet because of the limitations on offense.

I'd expect the offense to be significantly better next season with new LT, 2 game changers at WR. Keeping Hooper around and hungrier Drake.

There isn't a single coordinator worth hiring who is going to work for an incompetent coach in Mayo, who is clearly going into a lame duck season.

If they don't fire Mayo, they have no choice but to hold onto the coordinators.

I agree that a top OC and DC are not going to work for Mayo except maybe a friend like Daboll. No veteran coaches are going to be come in and prop up Covington.

Mayo, AVP, and Covington come across as low IQ guys. Disorganized, always retracting their comments, very simple schemes, etc. Kraft should clear out the whole coaching staff but first fire Wolf. Kraft should have done that when BB left.

Daboll is fine. He could be an assistant HC or have a role like McAdoo.

If Covington is staying, we should add another coach to call plays. Call him an assistant DC if we must.
======
IMO, the most serious need is a coach to call defensive plays. And, yes, it would be best to simply fire/demote Covington. I'm not as convinced as some that no one would come in as DC with him being able to bring in a couple of additional coaches and be in control of the Defense.

Another reason to consider moving on from both Mayo and Wolf/Groh is because the upcoming FA and draft class are projected to be weak. The likelihood they pick the best players from a weak class….

Wierd situations, like the old DC hangs around while a new DC is hired, will never happen. It took the Pats months to sign AVP because Mayo has no connections and the situation is not good (which can lead to less than successful results which leads to a black mark on a coach's resume). AVP had no other options. We do not want to keep signing guys that have no other options. The exception is if Mayo has a connection like Daboll. AVP could be retained as a QB coach as long as he reports to Daboll and Daboll agrees.

Hopefully the situation can be handled in a professional fashion with Mayo and Wolf replaced. Repacing individual coaches, like the WR coach, is not going to fix the problem. Wolf and Mayo have to go, and then the new GM or Coach can bring in thier guys and restructure everything in a professional manner.

Mayos interviews sound like a guy who won’t be replaced said he talks to the krafts all the time.

I mean, 76 they would have won the Super Bowl if not for Ben Dreith. And 85 they were *in* the Super Bowl
Sorry, meant 1976 and 86 they hadn't chance, my point is its hard to develop a championship team and you need patience which some people lack. We have the QB, let's see how they evolve into next year.

If Kraft is planning on moving to a whole new regime we would be hearing Krafts making calls to someone.

Vrabel?
I saw Vrabel to the Jets that Would be sickening
