Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Is Mayo being unqualified for the position of HC fact or opinion?

He certainly does not have the resume of other HC hires.
Opinion. He was effectively the DC even if Bill was screwing around because he didn't want his son to be overshadowed.

Everyone should settle in for the fact Mayo WILL NOT be fired this year or next.
Only option is to fire a scapegoat - and it has to be on the insanely underperforming defense - DC & maybe HT too?
Bring in a legit DC (who carries the authority of a HC - which Mayo doesn't) & better LB & DL coach?
Give AVP one more year with Maye, and some better tools - especially rebuilt OL.
Mayo will just be the cheerleader - which is why Kraft hired him. That's going to be best case for '25

You're not taking into account that last year's offense was nothing but 3 and outs and turnovers gifting the other team points. Last year even special teams was pumping opponent's scoring. This year's defense is giving up more points in fewer drives. It's way worse than just looking at points total without nuance.

Ben Johnson will see Drake Maye, a top 5 pick, 140M cap, and a staff he can clean up with his own people. It's a beautiful setup for a fresh beginning---with a properly hired coach who's actually worked and succeeded his way up to the opportunity.
And our offense this year has been staying on the field?

Ben Johnson is not coming here. Drake Maye isn't enough of a draw when he can go to Chicago with Caleb Williams and a better roster or even get the luxury of a full rebuild and getting his guy.

I thought that was just something Mayo said about himself.
But when he didn't even call the plays, how can that be?
It's clear that Stevie B was much more important to the Pats D than Mayo or DC were.

Not every coordinator calls plays. We know what the players thought and who they were working with most.

If a coordinator doesn't call plays, they work below the guy who does.

EdIt: Well, I take that back, there are some coaching hierarchies where there are running game coordinators and passing game coordinators, who then report to the offensive coordinator. I don't think Mayo's stiuation was like that, though.

The offense is still pretty bad but we have had a 2 min increase in ToP compared to last year, even higher since we made the QB switch.

If the Pats lose out, Bob will change his mind and fire Mayo.

Each week the media has been getting louder calling the franchise an embarrassment and Mayo incompetent. Bob doesn’t want to be known for that.

the team would benefit greatly If they got rid of AVP, Covington and Mayos brother. Week after week we've watch AVP make ridiculous calls on the offense, and Covingtons defense has been dismal. Get a qualified OC, DC, and strength and conditioning coach

Unfortunately you can't fire failed DEI hires after one year - it is a bad look. See what is happening in Corp America - just now they are fixing mistakes made 3-4 yrs ago. Enjoy the Mayo bus for a while longer - especially those on this forum who were insisting it was a pure merit hire..

Sounds like Kraft is putting us thru more stale Mayo.
The dream is dead, no Johnson, No Moore, No Joe Brady.
All we have to do is proclaim that Robert Kraft was THE driving force behind the Pats dynasties.

Not Tom Brady, not Bill Belichick, ROBERT THUNDERKITTEN KRAFT!

The beatings will continue until we all publicly proclaim this.

That is an absolute vital piece. You need to have a feel for the game and be able to call defenses accordingly. Some guys get the x's and o's but just suck at the play calling piece. Its clear Mayo has zero experience in calling the defense and convington is not the answer either. You are defending the indefensible.

The coaching on this team is terrible. Regardless of the roster, the coaches are lost and have no answers. The team continues to make mental mistakes. They make awful adjustments. Just look at the drives coming out of the half. This coaching staff is outright garbage. Kraft needs to swallow his pride and clean house, which he should of done last year. Hire an experienced coach, maybe one that won't have the opportunity to be here for 20 years due to age. But bring in a guy who can get guys to play the right way. Tough, hardnosed and mentally disciplined. Not a bunch of whineasses making excuses for why they gave up a 19 play drive to win the game...19 ****ing plays to Richardson, basically a High School QB!. Everyone should of been fired this morning!

Finishing the year on a 7 game losing streak, 2-14 after a week 1 win, and generally not showing any improvement in any area outside of the QB will not be a great look. Not much reason to bring the guy back.

friendship and loyalty.
He’s like a son to me Robert says.

The more I see, the more I hear, the more I blame RK for the demise of the dynasty. I am thankful he kept the team in NE, and overall being a good owner for years…

But as far as the dynasty goes, BB had an even tougher job IMO than he gets credit for. While Brady was huge (can’t be overstated), there is so much more to a team, especially in football, than one player. BB kept all the balls in the air successfully for a long time. Dealing with egos, philosophy, personnel (for better or worse, certainly not as easy as it is sometimes made out to be, and doesn’t just involve “picking the right player”) strategy, etc, etc … He did an unbelievable job.

It seems to me anyway, that as RK began concerning himself more and more with his legacy, the more toxic his relationship with Bill became… And the more we became (a little anyway) like the Cowboys, where it became tougher to put a finger on who was responsible for things going south.
Oh well, it was an awesome run, far more than I could have ever dreamed of in my lifetime.

For now, hoping Drake Maye isn’t a casualty of the current mess. Thought he’d be great before the draft, he seems to be who we all hoped he’d be, but who knows.

BB's biggest battle was with the constant drain of staff talent. I think the incessant battle to replenish his support system of coaches and staff is what finally exhausted him. The well ran dry and the dregs he was left with couldn't keep him from running into the ditch.
