I think they will probably evaluate during the bye week, Peppers will talk to the team and they will decide that they know him well enough to trust him to be out there for the final 4 games of the season with the guys. He will stay out of trouble for a month. Then he can have his court date in January after the season is over and they will deal with whatever happens with that next season.
Yeah I get that, but can you imagine the PR hit if he is found guilty etc? The blowback will be intense and I doubt Kraft wants to add that ****storm to the current one boiling right now.

The DV charge is going to disappear. He will settle with her for a tidy sum and she won’t testify. The coke? He’ll get a deal to plead no contest with minimal consequences. He may even get the case continued without a finding, and then the charges dropped if he’s a good boy for a year or two.

No, I don't think it works that way. Remember Christian Peters? Dude was gone in a flash. The coke thing is whatever imo, Chung had the same thing iirc. DV is a no go for Kraft or it at least used to when Myra was still around.
Then why's he still here?

wow.

didn't see this one coming

it will be good to see him back in foxboro. but the number 5 on his jersey will still look stupid. looks like a kickers number
STFU.....I have that jersey Although I havent worn it since this BS started. I guess I can over look the fact that he is a coke head, probably explains why he is a thumper on the field, so I am good with it.

First - I hope it was all made up. It makes it weird for the whole organization to give Peppers the hero's return as the leader of the D that we desperately need. But, wouldn't it be something if he plays most of this game and we get the D's swagger back.
Even after being out for 7 games, he could jump back in and be much better than Dugger has been.
Lets go!
I agree. I immediately noticed with his absence the defense took a huge hit with leadership and attitude. Peppers is the enforcer in the defense the vocal leader.. the guy who holds guys accountable.

I think at this stage it's highly unlikely he will actually see court, and if he did, it's unlikely they will actually get to a verdict. It is far more likely that there will be a settlement, or the case will simply be dropped.

As for "blowback", in the very slim chance that he somehow does see court and is found guilty of something, anything that happens will occur in January/February when the team is not playing. I think it won't really catch in the news much and will quickly be overwritten by other happenings.

With how horrendous our secondary has been since Pep "went away", I think there's no reason they won't put him back on the field. The Commish-List is the most overreaching & overriding thing there is in the NFL. So, if they cleared him, I don't think the Pats would feel a PR hit by playing him. And, Lord knows we need him.
Mostly because there's no leaders on the field anymore. And D needs one

you wear a kickers jersey lol

Looks like the Pats are going to let him play, with the acknowledgement that it could be a bad look in the end. Clearly, the NFL had a major blind spot in that their exempt list process works when a player takes a plea bargain to quickly resolve the issue (which usually happens) but doesn’t work at all when the player intends to fight the charges in court.

This smacks of something a bad team does (or desperate owner does) if thats the case. How desperate do you think Kraft is for Mayo to eeek out another win this year so he can say, "See, progress we won another game".

It won't matter him playing isn't going to help them win a game really.

Agreed there. I'm just happy to see a guy that plays with pride, passion and heart back out there.

He's off the list because he can't be on it any longer. Whether the Pats play him or not is another story. There's only 5 games left so they might want to wait to see how the trial shakes out in January and play him next season.
Mayo said today as soon as he's ready to play he will play. He's got the freshest body on the entire team. Even missing 7 weeks he's better than anyone in the secondary not named gonzo. I say he plays next week?

Not a good look...but then again, no one is looking at the Pats this year.

Mayo is in a bit of a tight spot with Peppers' situation. He's off the exempt list and eligible to practice and play. He's a good player at a position of desperate need. He's also a leader among a group of players that are very much lacking in that department. From an onfield and in the building perspective his presence would be a huge plus. OTOH from the standpoint of the perception of the general public welcoming back the prodigal son could be a disaster down the road.

One would like to think the FO has done extensive homework on this to make Mayo's job easier. Their silence however speaks volumes and none of what it says is good

I think both statements are true but not necessarily related.

This smacks of something that happens on bad teams.

They should be desperate for a win and/or anything that gives them confidence moving forward with the collaboration. The alternative is a reset.

And this could be related or could just be a timing thing where the NFL felt it wasn't fair to keep restrictions much longer than a suspension would have been.

They shouldn’t be desperate for a win. They should play their best, and the result will be the result. Unfortunately, it won’t be enough. Adding Peppers is a bad look until the case is resolved.

Everyone says it won’t go to trial, but I’m not sure. There should be exonerated videos for him.
