AFC 7th seed discussion

I think if we can borrow the bills playbook and do short passes to Douglas or Boutte in slot, we can motivate the Oline and start to make it look better than what it's showing.

No line can protect a QB for over 3 seconds. I would say Caleb made the bears Oline look worse than what they are. I blame it on OC and Caleb. Why play hero ball. Mahomes average passing yards depth has reduced every year over last 3 years .

I think we stand a fighting chance in all games if our play calling changes a bit. Maye doesn't need to play hero ball. And I doubt teams can defend pass and run at same time . Pop is actually an great weapon on first downs . Too bad AVP is just thinking about runs on the first play. Mix em up.

What I saw of the Bears OL last Sunday made me think of opening a shelter for Battered Quarterbacks.

Fair point, I have just always believed that you can’t win if your OL sucks, and the Patriots OL really sucks. I do believe it can be fixed this offseason, but right now it’s really bad.

Of course you can't go deep, but there are many so-so OL's that are on playoff contenders, which to be clear, the Patriots are not now (playoff contenders).

Obviously the Patriots are short in many areas. But I think they have solved the biggest piece.

I guarantee there would be excitement here if they were 5-5 looking at Maye as the future.

It would be too early, but isn't the reason for following a team is to have some fun?

Or is it to hide behind a computer, while miserably clicking "I don't agree", without ever adding substantial thoughts?

Agree completely on Maye, and I would be more likely to give credence to a possible run to the playoffs if I thought the OL was mediocre, but I honestly think they are really bad. But Maye certainly should give everyone hope for a bright future. If Wolf can fix the OL in the offseason I think they will contend for a playoff position next season.

Real bad was last weeks opponent. Our OL is coming together to where we're just normal bad.

And Chicago was a Hail Mary away from being 5-2.

There's a lot of bad around this year.

Talk about damaged goods... Higgins, Cooper, Diggs and Godwin are gonna need Javon Baker's help to stand up.
My hope is baker shows something between now and end of the season. The strange thing is that baker and polk were doing well in training camp.

This! Wich has me foolishly hopeful this team makes a playoff push!

It really speaks to what an idiotic move it was by the owners to include more playoff teams.
It was. They were thinking about the extra revenue wich is always first and foremost in their minds. Even though this isn't a playoff team if they could so much as sniff a playoff berth would be miraculous. It has me admittedly curious if they can..

The title of the threat is "AFC 7th Seed Discussion".

I think you would be allowed to bring them up in a discussion if they were actually the 7th seed today.

I agree with your overall assessment, but how would you have reacted to a similar thread in November 2001 titled "Super Bowl Contention Discussion"? Did they look like a champion then?

I'm only saying if they were 5-5 (wasn't that the 2001 record?), it would be ok to be a little excited and talk about it.

Is everyone like 80 here???
This. I think the whole thing is about them getting better each week they have done that in different ways. A rookie QB that has energized the offense and the fan base, because of so much mediocrity that they are even in that type of playoff position scenario is mind blowing to me.

Of course if they can continue to win a few games to end the season say they end up with 6 or 7 wins that is a success for a rebuilding team with a rook QB. FA will see this and want to be part of the ascension.

No doubt. Seeing terrible teams with losing records in the playoffs is not entertaining. They are just fodder to pad the owners pockets.

Can you imagine if the stars aligned and we got into the playoffs with this roster

How dare the owners make money off of their professional sports team!
Trust me, I’m not saying they shouldn’t. Having the extra game does nothing for the sport except for letting bad teams in who shouldn’t be in and increases the chances these guys get hurt. The chances of a 7-8-1 record team getting past the wc and not blown out are slim to none.

Bingo! AVP needs to throw it on 1st down to open up the running game.. teams already know that we want to run so they are gearing up for it. Getting 6,7 yards on 1st down does much more for the run. Also it keeps pop on rhythm and moves the chains.

It's really just a wish, but imagine if Maye were the next Mahomes level player.

Even this team would start winning.

Not saying he is at all, but that level player would turn everything around on a dime anywhere there's a defense that's ok, especially the way the league is today.

Agreed. Fully healthy I believe we are a top 10 defense. Maye IMO shows so much of Allen, Mahomes in his abilities to use both hands.. make something out if nothing.. he throws an INT and comes right back amkes a big play running or throwing.. he can throw it 60 yards off his back foot. he's a rookie pressed into a situation where he's got limited help is what's making him more impressive to me.

I hope I'm proven wrong, but Indy is the only game I see us having a shot at and they have a good defense and a running QB.
