Patriots Rumors: Veteran Expected To ‘Get His Wish’ With Release K.J. Osborn survived the trade deadline, but might not remain in New England

I suspect the locker room problem is that he came here expecting the winning locker room culture the team used to have, and when he got here discovered those days are long gone and far away.
Makes me wonder what kind of sales pitch he was given.

Through the first four weeks Osborne got about 70% of the snap counts.

He totaled about 30 yards.

Ok it's with Jacoby, but still.

That's not a raw deal.
We’d have to take a deeper dive and look at his targets, drops, and whether he was getting himself open. If he put up those numbers with Maye, you’d have a better argument. JB is a marginal NFL backup now.

Don't get that resign still scratching my bald head.

…Bourne is back. Boutte and Douglas are playing OK. There is no need for Osborne to take WR #4 reps. The few #4 reps that there are will/should go to Polk and Baker (and perhaps Thornton).

No they shouldn’t.

Releasing Ozzy just to give more snaps to the collective pile of poo known as BoneyT, Polk & half-Baked is doing a Disservice to our rookie QB, who needs better protection AND better WRs ASAP. There is no longer time to "be patient" while waiting for comically over-drafted stiffs like Wallace & Laydown and the aforementioned three to "develop."
Gotta give the Draft class another year Coach cap we owe it to them, threw up in my mouth after I said that.

If Osborne were performing better, I still think that he should be gone. If he were playing better, we would have gotten a pick for him.

His function was to provide a veteran presence, rather than playing only youngsters. Osborne also was an emergency option if none of the youngsters were developing. Bourne is back. Boutte and Douglas are playing OK. There is no need for Osborne to take WR #4 reps. The few #4 reps that there are will/should go to Polk and Baker (and perhaps Thornton).
Really?? I hope so for your sake.

I remember so many posters excited for this signing for absolutely no reason.

He’s decent, but was NE really the best or only offer he received?

He picked arguably the worst situation in the league. He’ll probably sign with KC when released.

Unless Osborne would rather wait on the practice squad of a contender for his chance, I don't see him moving far up the food chain in another organization.

If you can't crack this group how good are you?
He played pretty well for a 5th round pick in Minnesota. Over three seasons he averaged about 52 catches 600 yards and 5 TDs. He comes here and he is suddenly invisible. Did he suddenly forget how to play? Did he benefit that much from Jefferson and Addison? Or is it the latter combined with an OC that doesn't know how to use the pieces that he has? Or maybe its lets just play the young guys instead. I don't know the answer but I have a gut feeling its more the OC than Osborn.

He has 7 receptions on 17 targets with a couple of drops, and doesn't get separation. How much more do you want to see?

Yes

Yes
K.J. Osborn's career numbers in Minnesota are basically Bourne's numbers in San Fran before he came here. Obviously he thinks he's better than Slow Polk and Boney Thornton and I don't blame him.

I agree that something is not right with Osborne and the Pats. He has not produced and is a bit of a locker room problem, why keep him? Osborne had his chance the first few games he started and did nothing with those opportunities. At this point there is more benefit to keeping a WR that no team was interested in. Time to learn about the other WRs on the roster, they can't produce less.
It's kind of like when you get offered a job with all these wonderful things, and then you get there and it's like, oh crap

Good luck to him. Seems he's been a good solider. He's a solid player, just no real reason to be here given we have higher upside guys and are rebuilding.

I think Bourne is a close example in some ways. He just worked out.

Both SF and Minnesota were willing to let Osborn and Bourne go for modest contracts offered by the Patriots. Neither was paid like a starting receiver coming here. I'm still not sure Polk, Boutte, or Douglas are better, but if they are not at least as good as Osborn, they have little value.

Don't you think if they could get a 7th for Osborn they would have? Bourne no, but nobody will pay more than veteran minimum for Osborn.

Doesn't that say something?

Agreed to the part after the comma. Not the whole statement.

Bourne and Osborn both share a similar career arc. Good elsewhere, came to NE and flamed out. Seems likely it’s not them.

Bourne had pretty much the same career in New England as San Francisco.

Four years in SF - 1769 yards - 3.5 years here (no rookie year though) 1710 yards.

As a sometimes NFC SF fan, Bourne's weakness there was dropped passes. That's been showing up here this year.

I think he's always been pretty much the same player. For some reason this board has seemed to love him, like he's some answer to something.
