Not with the way he's moves the Football around a sign of Greatness. I really wanted Austin Ekeler in FA he's a WR playing RB he really helps the overall Offense and a Young QB.
Eckler is always hurt though PF2.. good player but always hurt.. I'd rather have gibby instead.

We cannot compare New England to Washington. Daniels was in college for five years and I think he started most of that time.

Also, Stroud also was a more NFL ready QB when he went to Houston and Houston had been building a lot of young talent between years of high draft positions and a boat load of picks from Cleveland in the Watson trade.

The Panthers' offensive resurgence lasted one game. Andy Dalton was ok vs the Bengals and awful this past weekend.

But I don't care about wins and losses this year or temporary bump in offensive production. That is irrelevant. The aren't going anywhere unless Maye surprises and has a near Jayden Daniels type of year.
Yeah it's just generally a dumb comparison. Even if all the rookie QB's were equally good, guess which one is going to play in the worst situation on offense? Maye. It's not even a debate. He would have to be substantially better than the rest of them to even look equal at this point, which is not a fair comparison.

And frankly, at this point, no rookie is going to look like Daniels the last few weeks anyways.

I was against this decision, but gotta hope for the best now, because if it blows up in their face they just burned ANOTHER first round pick and will have to spend another next year or the year after on QB and bypass BPA. So now he has to overcome the situation.

Yep no Free Agents are going want to come here IF a our needle ain't pointing up.
Free agents aren't going to want to come here unless we are contenders and can throw them the bag. A hypothetical .500 season isn't going to move the dial on that. Even if Maye looks good and they finish decent, every free agent is going to look at the Chiefs, 49'ers, Bills, Ravens etc. If it comes down to just the rookies, they all will choose Daniels and probably Caleb first. Even in our division, the majority of them would choose Rodgers/Allen/Tua as better bets barring Maye having a ROY type season (which won't happen).

The "we need to play Maye to have something to attract FA's" was always just a nonsense golden carrot for people who wanted to rush him out there. Until this team is organically rebuilt to be at least playoff caliber, FA's are going to demand top of market, like every other team that isn't fighting for a Super Bowl

My theory on how we got here:

I think Mayo wanted to start Drake on day one. Wolf/Kraft would not let him. After all, that wasn't the plan. They knew ahead of time and indicated repeatedly that Drake had work to do and that they weren't going to rush him. JB was signed to be the bridge QB to allow Drake to develop. But Drake developed quickly and pushed JB in camp. Clearly Mayo preferred to start him (the best QB will play, he said), but the Wolf/Kraft consensus (at that time) was to continue to develop him. Mayo is overruled.

A surprising (not to me, I was a 4 QB advocate and was sure the Pats would go in that direction, but to a lot of folks here) was that Zappe stuck around in camp, despite Drake's progression. Zappe was released at the end of but snatched up by KC just 3 days later, which I suspect surprised the Patriots FO. There were questions about the OL to start the season, so I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted Zappe around, just in case, but weren't willing to give him a roster spot with Milton there. KC blew up that option.

Still, Mayo says Drake is ready, so we're fine with 2 QBs (Milton doesn't really count since he's behind Drake). Let's roll with JB to start for a handful of games to make sure the rest of the offense is settled. No need for a vet backup, Drake is on the cusp. Besides, he knows how to deal with a poor OL.

Then the OL showed what are train wreck they are. JB is taking a beating. JB's performance deteriorates (getting hit a lot will do that, and JB isn't that good to begin with). Then Drake goes in for relief against the Jets. The beginning of the Maye era? Maybe his better mobility and other attributes will help. Then he gets sacked twice in just 10 drop backs, pressured on the other 8. Oops, maybe this isn't a good idea.

Wolf doesn't want to play him given the circumstances, but Mayo does. Mayo gives football reasons: a better, more mobile QB will keep the defense more flat footed, less aggressive. But Kraft sides with Wolf, for now. They could bring in a vet QB, but there isn't consensus and it would take time to get someone up to speed. JB becomes more of a disaster with each week. Trouble brews with the players as the losses pile up. Fans (not uber fans like us) are losing interest. It looks like another season of futility, even worse than last season. Not what Kraft was expecting. Kraft was the toast of the NFL for decades, and now his team is truly bottom of the barrel. He knows that attendance will decline, merch sales will suffer and that things could spiral even lower.

So Kraft changes his mind and sides with Mayo. Drake will start. May the football gods protect his body and psyche.
Sounds convoluted. More likely they drafted Maye knowing he would need development. They knew Brissett would be worse but wouldn't be a turnover machine that would lead to a total calimity while they developed Maye. Fans are getting restless and watching Daniels have a monster season is making everyone want to save face and see if they can get a spark before the fanbase becomes unruly.

I said before the offseason, we knew what Brissett was and if the rookie wasn't immediately better than him, we had a major bust on our hands. Being somewhat better than Brissett was never the goal for Maye. But now it is because everyone in the org is scared ****less.

Rodgers is going to retire soon one more concussion and Tua is done it's only Allen in the Division now. The NFL Player Cap offsets the Teams deficiencies.

Doesn't matter. You think any WR is going to choose any of these rookies over Rodgers if they have the option and money is equal? No they aren't. Rodgers is respected by players in the league and is considered a winner who can get you to the playoffs and get a payday after a big showcase. Players aren't going to be like Patriots fans and overinflate every single optimistic take possible. They are going to bet on the HOF'er and 4x MVP over the rookie who accomplished nothing but maybe has some potential. Every single FA is still going to the Patriots and going to say "give me an offer and it better be attractive compared to my other offers". And if the front office says "look at the potential you have with our new guy" they will laugh because there are 15 better bets in the league at any given time than a rookie in year 2 without a track record of success.

Anyways, like I said, it doesn't matter anymore. We just have to hope that either

1. Maye is 100% ready and this is the right decision
2. Maye is at a point where even if he isn't, he can overcome being in the worst NFL offense and behind the worst line for a year without it effecting his development.

There's no going back, and this will impact our franchise longterm either way.

I think you're hyping up Rodgers a little too much this Jet Team looks like it's under underachieving. They better get a D Adams to right the ship.

Well thought out Post I truly enjoyed reading it.

I also believe the team is in a great position to trade for adams so far no teams are willing to part wit 2nd round picks.. so LV has to drop their asking price. Adams, KB, pop, Polk would be a nice WR corps for maye day... do it wolf!
I wouldn't give a 6th and his contractual $35M a year.

I think they misjudged how bad the Offense was going to be.
the terrible RB's?
the terrible TE's?
the terrible WR's?
the terrible OG's?
were the OT's misjudged?
========
which were misjudged? Only the QB

We lost Two winnable games where better COACHING would have been the difference Seattle and Miami. I feel this Team is going to respond to Maye in a good way.

fify

They also have beaten the Giants, Bengals, Cards, and Browns. They haven't beaten a team with a winning record yet. So that has a lot to do with their win loss record.
Their overall schedule is not daunting and I think they'll split with the Cowboys and Eagles.

They have no QB either, which does impact an OLs performance. So they're improving that position. I'm glad the regime isn't as cowardly as some of its fanbase

There is nothing “ cowardly” about not being a moron. Putting Maye out there behind this OL is moronic.

Mayo said it was his decision to Start Maye so I guess our Rookie HC is moronic. Please elaborate Ivan...

Again, you don't as an ownership group, burn the last thing you have in your arsenal and risk it blowing up in your face. This didn't come from ownership, period. Plenty of people in the know have stated that.

What will be hilarious is if Maye lights it up and hits the ground running. I'd lean more towards that than him sucking quite frankly.
