Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

Agreed. A lot is going to hinge on Maye looking better than decent.
Thing is, I also feel like that makes AVP less likely to play the kid. The longer he waits to play him, he can keep saying “well the offense only looks bad because of Brissett - but Drake’s still not ready, not just yet!!” If they play Drake and he ultimately looks good but the offense itself is still not very impressive, they’ll have candidates willing to take the job. So AVP is incentivized to keep Drake off the field, limiting his competition in 2025 and making it more likely that they have to keep him.

Maybe, but I think it might be more that AVP thinks Maye doesn't fit his offense and Brissett (as mid as he is) does. I give AVP the benefit of the doubt that he wants to win.

How can he keep saying the offense looks bad because of Jacoby while trotting out this offensive line?

I feel like it's almost better to maybe clean house entirely. Get rid of Mayo, AVP, and the GM. You don't want desperate men making desperate decisions to keep their own jobs.

This is assuming the season keeps going this way.

SB made the correct call leaving the Pats. Now he is building value for himself. NFL people are always surveying the college ranks for talent in all forms.

Imagine if he stayed in NE after losing to the Dolphins 3rd string QB and best RB absent.
Bill O'Brien made the right call to leave as well.

I hope Maye is the guy. Wallace and Robinson look weak. Not sure how this front office will ever be able to organize FA signings or a great draft class. BB didn't hire the best people at the end of his stint.

The general purpose of an O-line is pretty much just trying to block the guy in front of you. These players, too many times, cannot do it because they don't have the talent. No amount of good coaching will change that.

Agree 100% with the rest of your post though.
The OL run blocks OK. That is because they can mostly block the guy in front of them. They can't pick up blitzes or stunts or anything other than blocking the guy in front of them.

2024 from the 3rd to 7th rounds looks abysmal. Maye might be great but that does not make a great draft.
How do you know that OL Robinson, WR Baker and TE Bell are worth keeping when NE has the worst passing offense in the NFL?

Milton was a flyer pick and always 3rd string QB.

I’m thinking BB would never work under the Krafts again, even if he was willing to give up GM duties.

Does it seem that BB was less than happy here since before Brady left?
Happy? BB? When was he ever happy? Maybe a a few minutes at the end of press conferences or a half hour after a Super Bowl win. He actually seems happy now, especially on the Pat McAfee show...well about as happy as he gets.

Last year's draft was excellent, but I have to wonder if Wolf is totally to blame for this year. I strong suspect that Wolf wanted to trade down and get the LT, etc., but was overruled by Bob Kraft who absolutely, positively had to have a high-fist-round, flashy QB as the first pick. Kraft pretty much said as much.

As I have said from the start of the year, you need to get the LT and WRs before you get the QB. Kraft thought otherwise and now we have a mess. And the season is still young, but they team is tearing itself apart already.

But if a good QB is there you have to grab him, what good is having a good LT and receivers if you don't have a QB? No guarantee there's a better QB in the draft next year. You can do it either way but if the QBs there, take him and use the next year to fill out the rest.

The same crowd who defended the Cyrus Jones's and Duke Dawson's of the world for years are now telling us the 2024 draft picks are busts.

Last year’s draft sucked after Gonzalez.

That won’t last if this continues. Kraft wants to be the toast of the NFL again before he dies. This season will make last year look like a decent showing in comparison. No, I suspect Kraft already regrets Mayo. He fully expected this year to be an improvement on last year, and now the rebuild timeline stretches out further. If he’s not convinced Mayo is the guy by season’s end, he is gone.

Now that I think about it, due to HJBK’s advanced age and shaking, Mayo may be on a shorter leash than expected. It’s all downhill at his age and the reaper comes fast. Can’t believe I’m gona go there but look at Biden…he was semi ok at the start of his term if not somewhat healthy. Then the wheels came off fast. I’d give BK 3 more years of life, tops sadly. So I’d say that’s Mayo’s leash length. Then either JK sells, or rebuilds with all of his own.
