*cough* ******** *cough*

the fact that they felt compelled to say it belies the statement
I also think the Robert Saleh firing was a wake up call to the coaching staff. If you (AVP) are going down with the ship, you might as go down with your best QB on the field trying to win games.

There is no real historical proof that picking 5th in every round gets you a better draft than picking 8th, 11th or 14th.

And the damage you do to your team by not trying to win and suffering through a 2-15 season is real, and much greater than the perceived benefit of picking a few spots sooner.

A 7-10 team making progress has a very different culture, and off season than a 2-15 disaster. In our case at 2-15 gm, coach and entire staff will have to make decisions that are win now or be fired.
Really? Then why does every single NFL team have these charts that provide value for different picks and they trade accordingly? Are they all deluded? To me, that's evidence that pretty much every single team would far rather pick at 5 than 8, 11 or 14. I would bet all the money I have (so around $50) that you'd never get a response that is contrary to that from anyone who knows what they're talking about. This isn't Fantasy Football where indeed you may get better value picking at #7 than you would at #1. But that's of course in a "snake" draft, the opposite would be true if it were similar to an NFL draft. So what NFL teams do in the real world tells you that you're completely wrong.

And no, I'm not going to attempt to "prove" your nonsensical proposition - if you make it, the onus is upon you to prove it.

Having dispensed with your first line, the rest of your post is reasonable. I don't think that they should deliberately tank for the #1 pick unless we were in need of a QB since those are the only positions worth that sort of a tank. I'm not even of the opinion that they should deliberately "tank", it's just the reality we face when we're this weak on the OL and up the middle of the Offense and Defense due to injuries and felonies.

My main point is "let's play Maye but when the OL is at least going to provide some level or protection and we're not up against the monsters on defense who could potentially injure our QB or destroy his confidence". I'm all for that happening in London, for example, if the OL can keep Jacoby relatively upright on Sunday. How Brissett performs is irrelevant to my thinking. Whether we win or lose is not a major consideration. Insert Jim Mora "PLAYOFFS!?!?!" video.

I'm half excited, and half "please don't massacre our boy".

If Maye had played Seattle and Miami those are 2 clear wins lets be real we only needed one more play in each.

I think this week will prove one of the two factions of this fanbase correct.

Either those who want to save him for next year, when we've got one of the top tackles, couple extra linemen and he might actually not die..

Or... those that want to start him regardless of the complete dumpster fire he enters into, because they can't wait another year for some excitement. I somehow see merits in both as the games have been dire...but we will soon find out!

Your response isn’t addressing what I said. I didn’t say teams wouldn’t rather have a higher pick, I said there is no historical evidence that picking a few spots higher results in a better draft.
A player picked 5th didn’t mean he is the 5th best player. Sure it’s great to pick early were because you have more choices, but the draft is far from an exact science and a higher pick is far from a guarantee of a better player.

Don’t expect huge improvements. Maye’s scrambling ability will stand out. I would love to see the ball thrown deep center on occasion.

The rookie debut of fifth-rounder QB Spencer Rattler for the New Orleans Saints should be a bigger deal. Rattler should put up bigger numbers.

The one thing I hope to see is his ability to get rid of the ball fast or just throw it away.

Against an injury riddled Defense not buying it.
I'm not buying that he's an all-pro LT either, but you can only play against the guys they put against you and he dominated those guys. He's improved, that's for sure, how much is the million-dollar question. Better test for that this week.

Whoever? Rapaport reported it and we know that Pats management is Rapaport's source. Most likely someone instructed by the Krafts or RK himself.

Resale ticket prices were as low as $40 last week, so this is a panic move to drive fans back to Foxboro. RK does not want people guessing, he wants hype and hope to bring fans back.
Short-term thinking. Your prime asset needs all the help he can get. It's crazy to me. They are going to develop all sorts o0f packages that take away the easy stuff that gets a QB acclimated to the NFL.

Caleb Williams and J Daniels have looked really good the last couple of weeks. Not so much in their first 1 or 2 games.

Yeah, because, you know, they've really cracked down on that in the past. Remember the case of...nobody ever being penalized for this ever?

I get it, you're like a toddler on 15 December and see the wrapped present with your name on it under the tree and just cannot wait until Christmas to open it, you WANT IT NOW!
Ok.. I see your a bit off with your post. That was something a poster discussed I commented on.. I get that no one's opinions matter except yours. Maybe your still sleepy on pacific time zone. Wake up and smell the coffee pal.

I did a 5 minute Google search here is some historical data. It exists and I'm sure teams have better data then my quick search found.

Here's a thought: If the Patriots were about to start a three game road trip, does anyone think Maye would be starting Sunday? I don't. This move is to ensure the home fans have something to look forward too. Business decision.

I just think a half empty stadium with Brissett, which they might get anyways, is better than a full stadium where Maye is getting sacked ten times by Houston.

Instead of his first start being against a bad team, they decided a SB contending team is the right time to do it.

The Krafts didn't want fans to show up in Foxboro with paper bags over their heads like what happened in Cleveland last week. So the master plan was cut short independent of who the opponent was.

So if the next three weeks were on the road, you might be right.

Yeah and Pape opened a good topic on who's making the decisions within the organization.. I call it the honeymoon phase.. whenever you first start something everyone's open and willing to be open minded.. then when things get real like they are now you start having thoughts of regret. I believe Drake is tied to Wolf, mayo and avp. It's to the benefit of all 3 men that Drake shows his abilities win or loose.

Terrible decision. Great way to ruin a young QB. But if they want to go with the Jets model it’s on them.

I agree.

The fear now is you will have desperate men making desperate decisions to keep their jobs.

Don't worry you won't!

Yes, because their OL magically got better the last two days. But hey, at least the fans will be “ entertained,” and that matters much more than developing a good team.

Taking a page out of the Jets playbook is the worst way to run a franchise. Just make the fans happy, and never win a Super Bowl again.

Did starting Caleb Williams in Houston and throwing a million times ruin his career?
