I'm just trying to be reasonable. You're essentially saying he ignored the entire free agent class, save for who they signed. I don't think that's the case. I don't think there was a lack of effort to field a better team. I think there - unfortunately - was a lack of interest in what talent was available, and they were spurned of whatever upper echelon guys they pursued, which - again - not all of that is reported.
If Wolf sat around all March and went, "Yeah, we're good" and only went after those six, then he should be fired. However, I would bet the farm on that not being the case. They've been in on a lot of guys and have been shot down, and we've heard multiple times they were the highest bidders from people outside of the local media.
I get you're upset. But saying he sat on his hands for March and April and only targeted six guys out of everyone available is a far more unreasonable premise than what you're saying "my position" is.
They stunk last year and at the start of free agency were coming off of firing Belichick and hiring a nobody to replace him, with no quarterback with everything else up in the air. It's not an excuse, it's just the facts.
We're just used to 20+ years of guys wanting to play here when Bill and Tom were here. At that time back in March, that became no longer the case. They had nothing to offer other than money, and as we found out, it's not always enough. We simply learned how the other half lived this offseason. Let's hope Maye plays well so it's not the case again next March.
How is it unreasonable to assume the only players he was reported to target are the players he targeted?
He told us the OL was fine and very talented.
He chose his RB, QB,WR,TE pretty early in if I remember correctly.
I can’t tell you if he thought that was good enough, if he was under a budget constraint, or what, but I can’t conclude that since he signed players at the positions in question, I cant conclude he tried to get a bunch of other guys and we never heard about it. How is it unreasonable to say he signed guys he thought would be good and he filled the roster?
But we can agree he totally ignored the defense right? Do defensive players not want to be part of this team either?
Tennessee and Washington stunk last year and had no qb but players went there. Why are we the only team, ever, that free agents wholly shun?
I’m basing nothing on 20 past years. I am looking at this year, and comparing what we did to other bad teams.
Who are all of these players that we pursued who wouldn’t come here? We missed out on 1, which is not a judgment in anything because many teams lose out on some players they pursue.
It just seems like this woe is me New England mentality decided we weren’t going to be able to sign free agents, and despite there not really being anything to back it up, we run with that and give the front office a free pass.
