Stupid question here - why couldn't they act as if brissett was starting and then BAM.. Maye comes into the game on the 2nd play or something?

It was already a hard task for Maye, now they will be able to gameplan even better against him.

Even if they could keep the secret, the advantage would be very short lived. The change in QB is about setting a new tone for the team. Start the new chapter with confidence.

He HAD the courage of his convictions... that is, that this team was not in a position to start a rookie QB. That he would do what was best for the team, and not what was best for some parts of the media and the fanbase.

Now he has been exposed as being weak.

I hope, for the team's sake, that this experience doesn't lead to him developing the bad habits that have doomed other young QBs being put in bad situations.

Whether Maye is ready or not, I'm pleased Mayo has reacted to the landscape in front of him rather than sticking to a failing plan. Brissett's play has forced his hand. I'd rather a pragmatist than a stubborn fool leading the team.

So, Ja'Lynn Polk and Jabrill Peppers hastened the public announcement that Drake Maye has supplanted Jacoby Brissett. On a Tuesday, while the players have a day off. With one of the league's best pass defenses coming to town vs. the league's worst OL and receiver combo. Was this the plan? Or is it purely reactionary?

You can't convince me Maye would be starting Sunday if Polk's heel landed inbounds and Peppers had a ginger ale after tucking his girlfriend into bed.

Bryce Young was sacked 62 times in 16 games (almost 4 per game) last year, and he turned out fine!

Texans are 3rd in Defensive DVOA
Texans are #1 in pressure rate
Caleb Williams was sacked 7 times and picked twice in is 2nd start vs them

So if Maye is sacked 6 times and has 1 pick we good?

Tough spot, but Maye will get thru it and be better for it.

I anticipate 5 sacks and 1 pick with some big runs and 1 TD pass. Pats lose by 13

I think they are just bad.

Yes, a Left Tackle in the Top 5 who could anchor the line for the next 10 years is the kind of thing that sets organizations up for the long-term, especially when it protects your #3 pick from last year whom you believe is the man to take us there. But it's not just the first round that you get that top 5 pick, it's EVERY round. I don't know why people don't understand this.
