Please just give me something worth watching.
So what's the over/under on WHEN (not if) he struggles, sometimes mightily, for how long before the usual suspects on this board start saying Maye sucks and call for Milton?

In the be careful what you wish for category - the NFL remains a team game and news flash - the Patriots team isn't that good with a fatally flawed OL. Now will he potentially flash those attributes that made him such a high pick and sometimes overcome that fact? Sure. But that balance of decisiveness and patience...the ability to not be baited into throws...seeing one defense when another is called...all remain unknown.

All I'm asking is don't do what NE fans always do...take a minuscule sample size of data and make a decision that "KJHGD sucks!!! Worst waste of X pick evah!!!!" after three games of a rookie season. If he's the starter now - he's the starter for the rest of the year barring injury and will take at least that time AND THEN SOME to actually determine his long term capability and value.

So much for being ready, having patience, slowly developing him.

Now they are just throwing the kid to the wolves.

I hope he succeeds wildly, but I’ll be happy if he stays healthy, acquits himself well and learns from the experience.
That's the best case scenario.

You don't have to find that out in year one. He is going to be The QB here for the next three years whether he is a bust or he busts out to greatness. With the crappy talent around him this year, it is going to be hard to evaluate how good he is anyway.

If he's another first round bust, we need to know ASAP so we can pick another QB at the top of next year's draft or make other arrangements.

Well there is already one here that is on his knees for Milton. So, basically one pick and he will telling everyone that it's Milton's time.

It;s diffficult to a have a secure and simple feeling about this decision. On the one hand, I do think it's time , for all the various reasons of which we are all by now aware, for Maye to play. On the other hand, this is certainly for objective reasons far from the best point in the season for Maye to start, against a team that just knocked snot out of Allen. It is unfortunate, as I have been saying, that the team did not retain or hire an experienced veteran back-up, that they chose instead to let when Maye would start depend entirely on Brisset's fate, healthwise or performancewise. They forced themselves into a position where upon Brisette's collapse, they are left with only a single option, an option which, because of management's failures, is not a choice at all: it is simply the only course of action open to them.

I'll hope this works out, but I wish we were this evening having a discussion over whether to start Maye or the veteran backup, rather than closing our eyes and hoping for the best, as our coaching staff seems to do at every opportunity.

I’d rather he throws a pick and learns from it than pass up a shot he thinks he has to check down.

In hindsight part of what ruined Mac Jones was the success he had by refusing to throw the ball down the field as a rookie. Once he was figured out, and that was defended his whole mental approach was messed up. Then it got inside his head and he started throwing the ball down the field when he shouldn’t.

I always said the success of the 2001 patriots was grounded in how the 2000 patriots played. Belichick came in and established what he wanted to be whether the players got it or not and proceeded to find out if they did. He could have won a lot more games in 2000 if he just let Bledsoe throw the ball all over the field and played Carrol’s scheme that the defense fit better.
But he had a blueprint if what he wanted to become.

That’s what we should be doing with maye. Run the offense that he will be best in when he grows into it, and correct the mistakes as they happen
Do they activate Baker for a downfield threat.

The absence of pro 'film' may be the best single reason for starting Maye against a D as good as Houston's.
I had fears for Brissette's life against them. The uncertainty of what they might see out of Maye may well slow them down a bit, at least at first.

Desperation move. As the seats get emptier and the boos get louder, the Pats try to quiet the noise.

More or less than 12 penalties by the offense?

I just hope he lives to tell the tale.

So there’s that.

That's definitely not something I ever expected to read, but Lowe has been fine. I'd posit that the unit they rolled out there last week was pretty close to their best grouping.

Lowe / Jordan / Leverett / Onwenu / Jacobs

Onwenu replacing Robinson at guard helps a lot, although Leverett had his own problems in the middle. Jacobs was not significantly worse at RT than Onwenu has been, so they may as well keep that setup. Hopefully Wallace is healthy in 3-4 weeks and can come back as a depth piece. The only pieces that make sense to replace would be Sow for Jordan (though this may be minor, as Jordan has been solid) and perhaps Hudson for Leverett, if Hudson looks good. Eventually, Strange will be back and should be converted to center right away.
