You need a history lesson. The Pats had a top rated team and went to a SB or a title game in every decade of their existence. That history puts them ahead of plenty of NYFL teams and the last two decades put them at the top of the heap.News Flash: The Pats were the ugly, loser franchise in the league for the majority of its history.
I once attempted that sort of thing with a thread about BB's good and bad moves but it didn't get off the cutting room floor. That is a fair criticism Maust.
The issue has permeated every thread on this board. I am a willing target of criticism for starting this thread if it helps the others from being derailed.
And Bill had those 5 wins with Drew Bledsoe as his QB, not Jalopy Brissett. If you judged Bill Belichick on his first season he had 5 wins after inheriting an 8-8 team. Mayo MIGHT not be the guy. But holy **** is it stupid to try to decide that right now.
Early in the game I saw Hunter Henry go in motion and then stop right on the LOS on the other side. As soon as he did I yelled and he ended up with a penalty. I feel like that's on the player, not the coach. Same with 12 men on the field. That's a mistake by a player who should know his job.I wanted Vrabel to replace BB when the time came. He had experience and his teams did pretty well even though the titans never had a genuine top ten qb. When mayo was hired i thought id givr him a chance to see what he could do. So far its not much, the team is decimated with injuries and doesn't have much talent in the first place, but i expected them to play tough disciplined football, thats not what i'm seeing. Just because a team is made up of jags doesn't mean it can't play smart, disciplined football. And i think thats a reflection on Mayo the coach.
It appears that the Krafts have taken the same tactic as John Henry. Why pay for a winning team when you can still get fannies in the seats with losses. The Krafts belong at the top of the list.
Their Kraft hired, Kraft Group inspired, newly reconfigured management team is directly responsible for bad players / bad coaches

Note: Jonathon's NE Revolution has the 2nd most losses in the MLS
Just like with any other job in the world coaches learn on the go and pick up things they decide to use and drop things they don't.Even when he was a player with the Pats, he was a snob to the media. He had no idea he was the first of others like Rob Ninkovich and Kyle Van Noy who were just a product of Bill’s system/scheme.
Maybe except one owner brought us 6 Super Bowls and the other brought us 4 WS after an 80+ year drought. It appears that the Krafts have taken the same tactic as John Henry. Why pay for a winning team when you can still get fannies in the seats with losses.
That's the kind of stuff that bugs me most. It reminds me of the team's mindset in the NYG SB of 2011.Not sure of anything right now, "We're a running team until you stop us", yet they had the worst starting QB in the league chucking it almost 2:1, against a team that couldn't stop the run.
Then why were games getting blacked out? Why did fans back in the day say there was more action in the stands than on the field? You need a history lesson. The Pats had a top rated team and went to a SB or a title game in every decade of their existence. That history puts them ahead of plenty of NYFL teams and the last two decades put them at the top of the heap.
What does that have to do with today? Right now they're both big losers and have been for a few years. If you want to look at a local team that's willing to pay for players then you have to think green.Maybe except one owner brought us 6 Super Bowls and the other brought us 4 WS after an 80+ year drought.
Games were blacked out because they weren't sellouts. That didn't make them an ugly loser. Then why were games getting blacked out? Why did fans back in the day say there was more action in the stands than on the field?
Again, that doesn't matter. Catching lightening in a bottle once every 10 years doesn't make you good.Games were blacked out because they weren't sellouts. That didn't make them an ugly loser.
There was probably more action in the stands because of the drunks. And once again, that didn't make the team an ugly loser.
Like I said, they had a top team in every decade of their existence.
Most of the people that are giving Mayo a hard time are the people that rode hardest for Bill and were resistant to him being fired. If you followed some of them, they were already trying to set parameters last March on what their standards to dub Mayo a failure for.And Bill had those 5 wins with Drew Bledsoe as his QB, not Jalopy Brissett.
If I had to guess why we're seeing so much early negativity directed at Mayo, I'd say it's a reaction to losing Bill. This team wasn't expected to be good and it isn't.
At the end of the day, Orchids wanted a known quantity at GM and HC. The problem is it was known to him and not known from a track record standpoint. And that experience was absolutely essential to have when starting a rebuild after a legend like BB departs. Experienced FO & an experienced coach was just what was (and is) needed. What we got was Kraft playing favorites, and while it won't obliterate his legacy, significant damage has been done.
In the NFL you have to pay a certain percentage of the cap over 5 years. You can't cheap out. You can have an outlier year. Unfortunately this was a ****ty situation where we had a ton of cap in a year where the cap was raised substantially and quality talent got resigned so the market was weak.It appears that the Krafts have taken the same tactic as John Henry. Why pay for a winning team when you can still get fannies in the seats with losses.
His approach to addressing the needs at LT, LG and RT certainly need to be called into question.…as well as the insight and wherewithal to make draft picks & trades that don’t Suck.
Not sure but they don't have the street cred with Kraft to ask him to overspend on players who aren't known quantities to Orchids.I think cheap Kraft is handcuffing the team. You think wolf and mayo purposely tried to save money?
Apples and oranges. I remember that season well. It was a true rebuild, a restructuring of the roster and the installation of new systems. The defense played better. There was a return to fundamentals, a culture of accountability, and hope for the future. Do you think that's what we're getting this season? If you judged Bill Belichick on his first season he had 5 wins after inheriting an 8-8 team. Mayo MIGHT not be the guy. But holy **** is it stupid to try to decide that right now.
