If matters continue more or less as they are, should the Krafts fire Mayo at season's end?

Pape is my guy and he makes a valid case. I will just say this. Let me judge mayo from the time Drake starts and then on.. I don't believe for the life of me it's his personal choice to play Brissett.

I believe wolf has final say on the roster like the organizaional heichary list, and Groh as well as mayo.

If they can string some wins together and look more like a competent team then the narrative will change.
So Mayo does not get evaluated on:
The crumbling defense
The OL play
His decisions, like punting from the 40 vs SF
His seemingly terrible coaching hires
Benching Stevenson for ball security but not benching brisset when he fumbled 3 times and threw a pick 6 last week

Just to name a few things that should be part of his evaluation beyond the QB decision you are giving him a pass for. Also do we really want a coach who lets others make that decision?

Sometimes - when you’re ugly - you don’t get to CHOOSE your gf. You can either stay single or settle. NE did the latter.
lol, I like it. well said

Perhaps we have different amounts of patience on this matter. Perhaps I can take a wait and see approach and reassess if year 2 goes south.

I’m not married to this staff. So, if mayo/avp/wolfe fail - yes I’d be fine if they leave. I loved BB. But it was time to go and I didn’t take an Atavan over it.
So we agree they have failed with the opportunities they had to improve the team, but you are Ok with failing once and hope they do better next time?

I believe they tried hard to improve the team. They just don’t appear to be any good at it and I don’t see why year 2 would be any different based upon analyzing what they have done.
That’s why I say I expected some improvement. Out of all of those decisions I expect some good ones and some bad ones, but with all of those resources I would expect some improvement somewhere.
The offense is worse, QB, OL, WR has declined. The defense is worse vs the run and the pass and on 3rd down.
Wouldn’t you expect something to improve? Even if the record didn’t get better, even if you could simply see a direction?

"Vrabel...........nah!"
"Flores.........nah!"

"I schvitzed with Mayo in the Holy Land. He interned at our biggest sponsor. Plus......He calls me Thunder."

We are different. The roster is bare. The coaches are inexperienced. I expected uncompetitive.
I expected that because the HC was so inexperienced, they would have built an experienced staff around him. They did just the opposite. There were better candidates for DC, for OC out there. The DC was fait accompli in Covington. The OC? That search turned into a **** show, slowly getting shut out while the front office spun their wheels.

We should have been burning some cash landing better coaches to start...

So we have to accept being ugly, loser franchise forever? Thats your plan?

They tried throwing money at Caley and he turned it down. It takes two to tango. Sometimes money isn't enough. The Pats have one of, if not, the worst roster in the league. And they have a rookie head coach and as such one with no track record.

See the post I just made to Pape.. I'm tired of getting a popsicle headache on this. I've come to the conclusion that I need to judge him from when Drake starts and then on. Let's not kid ourselves into believing Brissett is his choice alone to start .

There are more candidates than Caley better than the guy who wasn’t allowed to call plays in Cleveland and got fired for how he handled the watered down responsibilities he was allowed to have.
Bad teams hire good coaches all the time. Just like they sign free agents all the time.
The defenders of the collaboration want to believe that we are the only team in the history of the league that no one wanted to coach for or play for.
I’m not sure why you feels it’s important to tell yourself that this team wasn’t supposed to hire a good cus hung staff, wasn’t supposed to make good draft choices, wasn’t supposed to sign free agents that would make the team better with $100,000,000. How could the Redskins do it?

I’m not really sure what patsfans expected here.

A parade of course. We have kindergartners who've never known the feeling of superiority that comes with Duck Boats in February. Think of the children! IT'S ALL ABOUT THE KIDS!!!

So essentially he is on a free pass to **** up everything until Maye plays? How does that improve the chances Maye succeeds?

Let’s be clear. Evaluating him so far, is not dooming him to that evaluation and writing his eulogy, it’s evaluating the job he has done to date.

Would you feel better saying the defense playing well, the OL is coming along, our draft choices are producing and there agents we brought in are contributing and we are improving, it’s just the damn QB who is holding us back, than to say I’m going to invite that we are declining on both sides of the ball and hope the rookie qb is a magic pill despite no evidence of a plan to improve the roster?

You nailed it with the popsicle headache, you are so averse to saying the ugly truth about what you see that you gave twisted yourself in knots to avoid the obvious and make excuses, and now just bury your head in the sand.

It is what it is. We have taken a step backward from a 4-13 team, and haven’t shown any improvement in any area. When that happens it’s hard to have faith in the people making decisions. I’m saying that, you and others are saying let’s close our eyes and hope for a miracle.

no, not a parade.

But not charades either.

Yes. Yes it is. They were so bad, in fact, they were nearly moved to St Louis. They routinely had their games blacked out leading to a bunch of people in the market becoming Giants fans.
How good they are isn’t judge by whether someone from St Louis wants to buy them and move them because he thinks he can make more money.

They had bad years, but nothing like you suggest.
In the 60s they had 5 winning seasons.
In the 70s they started out bad but from 76-79 were real contenders.

In the 80s they had 2 losing seasons and went to a SB

In the 90s they went to a SB and made the playoffs 4 times.

After that they were the greatest dynasty that ever existed.

Weird reply. The question was « why did we choose » and I responded what I thought was the answer. We differ.

Clearly - one day soon - I hope Maye develops, improves, and makes Foxborough a destination again.

So… this really wasn't a great team last season that was made into a bad team single-handedly by Mac Jones after all.

Huh. Who knew?

no, not a parade.

We're 4 games in and they're 1-3, about where we expected. There have certainly been some growing pains to be sure but did you really expect it to somehow be a 'pretty' 1-3? They're sporting a new coaching staff and revamped front office with an undermanned roster. They're doing it after the single biggest jump the cap has seen since its inception upended Free Agency.

C'mon man, this thread could have been started by Fred, Sam or Andy
