On defense losing contain is a lack of discipline. On offense, you’re probably right.
They seems to be too many missed tackles on defense too. I'm not sure if that comes under discipline or not.

But yeah, the offense is about as lacking in talent as they come and the question of how it got that bad needs to be addressed. They can't afford to have a repeat of the colossal mistakes that were made in the draft the last few years.

Need some advice. So, my girlfriend needs a ride to the airport at what will likely be around the start of the 4th quarter. My choices:

(A) As a diehard Pats fan, I suggest she "take an uber"
(B) as a realistic Pats fan, I figure the game should be over and suggest "I should be able to .. but leave the door open for an Uber
(C) as someone who enjoys sex, I commit right now to driving her to the airport.
If those are our only options my wife and I would probably agree on B.

Growing up we watched some bad Patriots football
We always wanted to know what it feels like to be Niners or Cowboys fans
We surpassed that with 20 Brady years
I believe you feel like I do. We are playing with house money
You never know we may strike gold again
I’ll watch and root for them until I’m using the TV remote to open my car doors
The funny thing is that the Pats had bad times but also had a top team in each decade but couldn't get over the hump. Then Brady arrived and they became the top AFL team of all time (Pitt doesn't count because they're originally an NFC team.)
I was anti-NFC after they mocked the AFL and skipped out of playing the AFL for years. I never wanted to be them but I did like Dallas at one time because I bet them at -5 points and after a long Staubach to Drew Pearson pass in OT, Landry faked a FG on 2nd down and they passed for a 6 point win.
House money is damn straight. It's been what, 7 years, and I still smile when I think about the Brady years. My only issue now is the negativity. I'm already sick of the Mayo nays and we're only 4 games in.

In 2018, you opt for an Uber. In 2024, I’d go C. Big C.

Does anyone else consider this to be a must win game besides me? As in, we lose this, we most likely finish 1-16, and the chances of the first overall pick are nearing 100%...

Feels like we are teetering on the brink of a wheels off the cart, **** MacPherson-esque style season, with the team mired in bad, inconsistent play...

I think it’s you.

I don’t believe there is such a thing as a 2024 must win. If they lose, what ? They don’t go to the playoffs ? They cut or trade players ? The entire front office loses their job ? AVP gets canned ? They change QB ?

None of those consequences bother me at all…

I originally thought this would be the day Maye would start but I have already resigned myself to the fact that it's not happening. With how many injuries they are now dealing with on the OL, I get it. Rough situation for a rookie learning the game.

Even with Jacoby it is a winnable game. Hopefully they can scoot through with the ground game and then get some better OL health for the next week. The Houston game will be a loss in all likelihood regardless. The Jacksonville game is, hopefully, winnable in London with a healthier OL and some other guys possibly back. If that's all correct, you're looking at being 3-4, while being 3-2 in the conference and 1-1 in the division.

Then it's back for a home game against the Jets. I think this might be a new sensible target game for Drake if the OL is healthier. It's an opponent he has seen on film already and it's at home. After that, the next 6 games are not too rough - at Tennessee, at Chicago, home vs LA Rams, at Miami, home vs Indianapolis, BYE, at Arizona - before finishing the final 3 tougher games at Buffalo, home vs LA Chargers, and home vs Buffalo.

at some point the needle needs to point up Farn... can't continue with sloppy play... we don't have to look like a contender, but we do have to look, at some point, to be heading in the right direction, to look like a team that has pieces we can build around. Right now 1-16 appears more realistic than 4-13...

MIA: aside from QB that MIA team is reasonably sound. It's the pats that have full dysfunction on the o-line, and so it matters not whom is at QB or WR or TE. You can't even grade the QB or skill positions now as its truly a team game and on offense that starts at the line of scrimmage. Short term, today, not sure why the pats are favored here or graded essentially an even game.

Long term I still have hope that if the pats can get 5 guys they like on the off-line, and with some luck, cease the revolving door injuries on that off-line. They can subsequently slowly evolve out of dysfunction for Nov to end of season. Get Maye in. Get more acclimated to the new offense (that is a big work-in-progress), and position to be functional next year. Wins/loses....? I'm looking for progress and a positive prospectus.

This is a get right game for the defense. If they cannot stop the phins, this season is going to suck much worse than I thought.

The Patriots' defense ranks 31st on third down, with opponents converting first downs 51.8% of the time. This is a significant downturn from 2023 when they finished seventh in the NFL (36.2%). Coordinator DeMarcus Covington said it's been self-inflicted wounds by not synching up the rush and coverage. Conversely, the Dolphins are the NFL's No. 1 defense on third down, with opponents converting 23.8% of the time.”

Right now, we suck…so definitely C. Besides, you can always watch the parts you missed here anytime:

No. I believe that coaches aren't as important as players and the lack of talent is the biggest problem, not a fictitious discipline issue, which btw you provided lousy examples of to make your point about Bill's superiority in that regard. The Pats had a crushing defeat in each game, once vs the Jets at home in the playoffs and the other in the SB vs Philly.

Nobody knows how Mayo will work out but making up negatives about the guy out of thin air is way off target. Let's give him some time before we get in lockstep with every criticism from the media.
That's not how discipline works it's not a game by game thing either you hold your guys accountable or you don't. There is obviously way more that goes into this then just benching (that's more of a drastic move that's just obviously very visible to us).

The team has the same 1-3 record that they started with the last 4 years and looks almost identical to 2023. Any win they get will be a good one.

There's no benefit to losing games. You could get the first pick and it could end up being the 5th best player taken or worse. I'd much rather see them win, especially now that wins are much harder to come by.

If you get the first pick you can trade that for a mega-haul of picks from another team. The lower the pick the less valuable it is.

Drive her to the airport and dvr the game. Avoid the radio or looking at your phone until you are back home.

Come on, Patriots DC! You had em playing better in the preseason than now. What’s his name? It’s not Steve Belichick.

I have a confession. I'm sort of intrigued by the prospect of a blowout loss. I mean, the team isn't very entertaining, but the holy hell kerfuffle which would follow such a loss could be hilarious, if you are into dark humor. I know: what a despicable thought. It's the same impulse which makes it such that the Dante's Inferno is far more interesting and sell more copies than either of the other two sections, and why Milton seemed more fascinated with Satan than with all the other angels and divinities in Paradise Lost. Wiliam Blake took delight in this fact and wrote his "Proverbs of Hell," a work which I can tell you adolescents enjoy discussing than they enjoy parsing out theodical issues arising out of theb\ almighty's ominipotence. The most alluring image of Jesus, maybe the most beautiful -
Go and sin no more." - involves his chatting up a floozie at a well. Women love a bad boy. The UFC is a massive hit, but a show in which manly men talk out their differences in an atmosphere of profound, mutually nurturant respect would never fly. We bad, bad to the bone. "Look, Mom, a car wreck: slow down." I'll post something more respectable come the Sabbath, depending on the outcome of the game.
Jeepers. Can't a fan stray occsasionally from lockstep happytalk? Fine.

"I think the team is really rounding into form, and every time Mayo quotes from the collected works of Oprah, I feel a little tug at my heartstrings, and I know all will be well. I admire Rhamondre's willingness to share the ball with his adversaries. It would have been self-serving and vulgar for Wolf actually to have done his job. The most important thing in hiring coaches and front office staff is that the octogenarian owner enjoy their company. That o-line is really looking pretty good. Evan Lazar is a heartless thug whose head belongs on a pike is Southie."

Pats: 49
Dolphins: 0

A loss today and the season cannot be redeemed. Unless we get to see Joe Milton at QB. Defenders bouncing off him. Throwing deep passes with a flick of his wrist. The team responding, knowing they have a chance to win now.

This isn't a redemption season. This is a getting your bearings with a new regime season.
