Godchaux - "Guys being kind of Selfish" - so... Who's Freelancing

Getting to Jacoby in practice against a Practice squad OL doesn't translate on Sundays. I think our Defenders are realizing that thus the freelance.
In a sense guys do gamble. But typically if a player messes up you have someone to help. We lost Bentley and the communication has suffered.. now dugger is out and I don't expect the communication to get better.

Why does that matter to you? You thought he sucked and didn’t want them to take him.
Just remember we only got Drake Maye because the Two Teams in Front of us thought Williams and Daniels were better not you just a little fyi so just chill with your pom poms. We all knew how the First Round was going to shake especially the First Four Selections.

Minny and big blue to mention a few of many teams....wanted to give us big collateral to get maye day..

Your absolutely correct I owe you that credit you did say that. As I've expressed I just cannot accept as a fan Mayo saying Brissett gives the team the best chance to win.. it's malarkey.

We know the line has been a problem all camp into the regular season. The QB quantifies the problem can't protect and can't hit open WRs.
The biggest problem was the rookie was outplaying the veteran who was brought in. This was one of the reasons why I didn't like the Brissett signing as it's not going to take much to outplay Jacoby. Also, Maye isn't going to learn a damn thing from Jacoby. Pats were trying to get cute sitting the rookie behind a veteran, but they completely missed the assignment on how it works.

IF they are hell bent on sitting him for a year just sign Zappe off KC Taxi Squad. It has come to that because he sure looked a heck of alot better than Brissett who's probably on his last NFL Contract.

You do realize Belichick had the same problem, and so does every team in football. Defensive players freelancing is commonplace in the NFL, and teams often end up letting those players go. Jamie Collins was a great example of this under Belichick, as was Adalius Thomas. Defensive backs take gambles on interceptions, and DL and linebackers blow off assignments and try to get to the QB. It happens all the time, and every coach has to deal with it.
I get it and I said he has to deal with it. A rookie coach is much more prone to pitfalls of locker room unrest.

Uche has been a huge disappointment. I heard the interview by goddy and he's a team leader so he's calling out guys that seemingly want to put themselves before the team. Look when you loose this is what happens. The offense looks like crap, I love mayo but I can't accept that Brisset gives us the best chance to win. White has been getting doubled.. also Jennings didn't play. We lost too much on defense to overcome. Communication breakdowns in the secondary.. guys running wide open. .. this is what loosing reveals.. also reports of Douglas growing frustrated walking off the field.
He been ass for awhile now

The "what about Bill" **** is getting old.
Yes BB had his issues but this is not his team any longer, Wolf had a lot of money to work with but seemingly did not make many moves to improve the overall roster or depth. Wolf could have reshaped the roster based on the money we had, granted it was not a great FA class but there were improvements that could have been made or at least more of an effort. All in my opinion

Brissett is here becuase of AVP.. Brissett was backing a back up in Washington to Howell and now Howell is a backup.. go figure! Even with the state of the OL a more talented QB still makes more plays.. look at Howell last season his OL was ****ty and he still made plays to his WRs.

I believe Drake has forced thier hands..if the decision was strictly on Mayo Drake would be starting.

Sure. But it's Game 4. If they don't think they can win and they don't care about winning, perhaps they should sit White/Uche?

Coaches know what the assignments are, fans don’t. And coaches will decide who is doing what they are supposed to and who isn’t. Then decisions will be made by them on who plays and who doesn’t. That’s a constant in football at all levels.

Except that Mayo isn’t a rookie coach to the defensive players, he’s been coaching them for years. Honestly I see this story as nothing. It’s the media hyping a players comment. I think every coach has to deal with this. I think the resentment comes from a guy like Godchaux because he has to do the dirty work all the time, so it pisses him off when he sees others going off script to make plays,

We knew the picks would go down like that in April, not February and March, and you wanted them to trade out the entire time, and now want to try and claim you wanted Daniels because he’s off to a hot start. I’m not the one trying to be Nostradamus, I simply wanted the QB at 3 all along, and I would have taken any of the top 3 QB’s.

LMAO.. ok.

That was actually my mistake, I quoted you by mistake, that was directed at Patsfan2, I have no idea what you wanted them to do with that pick, PF2 wanted them to trade it.

You turned into fluffer didn't you.

The decision is strictly on Mayo... I am sure he gets input, but in the end, its his team... If he is not determining who is starting, who isn't, then he should not be the head coach. That is straight out of Football for Dummies.

I get the collaborative narrative has been pushed all year since the hiring, but at some point collaboration does not work and decisions need to be made. He is the decision maker. If he isn't, why is he here?

Perfectly said! I've felt that his toeing the line of "collaboration " and trying to stay on board with the teams messaging. However as yout stated he is the HC... I believe he relies heavily on imput from his staff notably the HC of the offense he proclaimed in AVP. I've pretty much given up on seeing maye save for mop up duties when we get blown out again.

I've accepted that Jacoby is going to continue to hurt our eyes each week. As in most organizations doesn't the HC have say on who plays? Starts ? Ect. ?

When we got close to the draft the more I saw and heard about Drake the more I wanted him. When I seen the interview with dabol I was even more impressed by his confidence and intellect. Guys got that southern charm and humility in him. He never gets to high or to low. He's mature for a 21 year old. I believe that will help his game tremendously.

You can view it however you want but I’m not very critical because this isn’t far off what I thought we were going to see this season. I had hoped they would be playing better, but until the OL is fixed that isn’t going to happen.

I have no idea whether Mayo is going to be a good head coach or not, I just think players freelancing is a common issue in football, and not something that is a sign that a coach has lost control of the locker room. So far I think Wolf has been doing exactly what I want him to do, I have no opinion on Mayo’s ability to be a head coach or not because it’s too early to know, and the hire I have the most concern about is Van Pelt. I think both Mayo and Van Pelt are hamstrung by the organizational decision to keep Maye on the bench, but I agree with that decision, but van Pelt’s lack of motion in the offense, as well what currently appears to be a lack of creativity makes me wonder if he’s the right guy for the long term. Overall I don’t think we are going to know where they are at until the OL is fixed, and Maye is the full time starter, and I’m hoping the latter is next season. At that point I’ll start looking at them more critically, but I’m not going to waste my time gnashing my teeth this season.
