He was a serviceable guard, but I think it reasonable to expect more from that high a draftee at that position. This ^ is completely wrong.
He played good as a rookie in the first half of that season, then improved and played great the second half. He played the third most offensive snaps on the team. Meanwhile Wallace and Robinson can't get on the field if not for injuries and stink when they do.
We're just making stuff up now?
He was better than serviceable. He had a teachable moment midseason as a rookie when BB benched him midway through a game, he improved and played great the second half of the season. Despite playing injured last year he was a steadying force and David Andrews said he was playing great before he hurt the same knee a second time... badly this time.He was a serviceable guard, but I think it reasonable to expect more from that high a draftee at that position.
Whatever term we might wish to apply to his accomplishment, the ROI on a first-round guard ought to be better than it has been, assuming there even is such a thing as a "first-round guard."He was better than serviceable. Fans hated a guard at the end of the first round so now they're simply lying about his results... it's typical fan nonsense. If by some chance Strange could return this season at his former level, he'd instantly step in as a starter, improve the line and be one of our better linemen.
I'd say an instant starter who can play great is what a first round lineman should be. Beyond that some fickle fans who wanted "a weapon" instead don't understand how football is won in the trenches.Whatever term we might wish to apply to his accomplishment, the ROI on a first-round guard ought to be better than it has been, assuming there even is such a thing as a "first-round guard."
Do you think he'd have been worth a second rounder?Whatever term we might wish to apply to his accomplishment, the ROI on a first-round guard ought to be better than it has been, assuming there even is such a thing as a "first-round guard."

This year's abomination of an offensive line should be a stark reminder of that. Dead last in sack percentage, second to last in total sacks allowed in the NFL.. this team sucks because they don't have more quality linemen like Strange.
Saying he "can barely play guard" is hyperbolic garbage, especially after seeing Layden Robinson get tossed around the last few weeks.
In retrospect, given his injury history, I guess not, but at the time,I suppose drafting him in the 2nd round would have been a reasonable decision. Not all reasonable decisions work out, after all, particularly in the NFL draft, the World's Most Expensive Craps Game.Do you think he'd have been worth a second rounder?
I meant injury aside do you think his level of play would be worth a 2nd?A fa

It's part of the overall picture.I don't know why we think that Strange's draft position is relevant to his future on the patriots.
Patellar tendonDo we even know now what happened to Strange? ACL/PCL or what? Very odd nothing has come of that.
It was more like Logan Mankins. That pick was very controversial and Bill took a lot of **** for that. Mankins turned out to be a stud.I think what BB saw in Strange was the 2nd coming of Stephen Neal, and tbh I think he can still be that if he can get his knee healed up. And if you told me we could get another Neal with the 29th pick, I'd say good.
