OT: Tyreek Hill detained outside stadium prior to Dolphins game, plans to play today

He has the drivers license go write up the ticket and come back. Tyreek definitely should have just left it down but not sure why the officer had to choose that to allow things to escalate.
Do you think that a police officer who allows a suspect to hide what is happening inside the vehicle is at all at risk? Given that they do get shot by people they pull over sometimes.
Are you saying police procedure should be that if it’s ok for pulled over motorists to roll up their tinted windows and they should just let them?

I'm not saying any of that.

I'm saying they got his I.D. Tyreek should not have rolled the window back up but the officer had a choice at that moment take the I.D. run it and write up ticket and return and Tyreek would have no choice but to roll down again and then the officer can continue with whatever he needed. He instead chose to make a big deal over very little and it escalated extremely quickly and I don't see how regardless of who you think is right that you don't see that.

You don't see how? Really? Have you considered just who it is you're saying that to?

But you are saying that. Because if you think he should walk away in this case, then you are saying he should walk away in every case, because he had procedure he must follow, which is designed for the safety of all.

And it’s not a big deal over very little. If that officer doesn’t act as if there could be a weapon behind that tinted window, every single time, then the time there is, he is dead.
You seem to be judging his actions based upon hindsight that there was no danger. When the person who is pulled over hides the inside of the vehicle it’s not safe to just walk away. Police are shot at traffic stops often enough that they can’t take that chance.

My bad I guess you're right his only option was to yank him out violently within 15 seconds and all LEOs should do that everytime.

An officer asks you to roll down the window, you roll down the window. There is zero to gain by being a jerk. Every traffic stop is a potential risk to their lives.

Did the cop go too far? Maybe. Probably. But for Hill acting like an entitled ****, there would have been no incident at all.

If you don’t want to have a reasonable discussion just say so.

Sucks that the police do this kind of thing at all but if they're going to....

You can protect your safety without being an aggressive confrontational *******.
Hill was driving unsafely and Hill was the confrontational *******.

If you look at crime stats there are probably quite a few cases of people who looked and acted just like Hill in that situation who were violent criminals. A cop would be a fool to trust Hill in that situation.

Hill's actually lucky that he was able to play considering he sounded like he had been beaten.

What sucks is that the police have to do those kind of things. There's no way around it when dealing with criminals.

Maybe you can enlighten us as to what the procedure would have been if they knew there was a gun behind the tint? Are they still supposed to rush the car like that? Or should they be more cautious?

My man, aren't you a little old to be playing with your food?

You responded to me asking someone else that said the police officer was wrong what they would do.
You said he had the license so he should have ignited it. To which I asked how that would be good policy, and you hand responded with snark.

I’m not a police officer so my opinion of the appropriate procedure with an armed conflict probably isn’t well informed.
But I’m pretty sure allowing the window to remain up obscuring the weapon to write a ticket wouldn’t be very safe.

My understanding is that officers are trained (correctly imo) that everyone you pull over is a threat until you determine they aren’t. Hill wasn’t really allowing them to determine he wasn’t.
I’m seeing this through the eyes of the threat present to the officer, and the belief that his number 1 priority is his safety.

That’s why I asked you to explain because you seem to be endorsing procedures that would out them in danger by assuming no threat.

I don’t think Hills attitude is really the issue. Being an a-hole doesn’t endanger the officer. It’s the risk the officer faces in any traffic stop, which is real.
Until they can rule out danger they have to be overly cautious.
1 time in 1000 is too much risk to be flippant about.

In that light you must perceive obscuring the onside of the car as a threat to your safety. Had he left the window down, and been an a-hole, it’s an entirely different situation.

Let’s not forget he was pulled over for driving dangerously in a heavy pedestrian area, in a very expensive car (chance it was stolen) so you aren’t dealing with an innocuous traffic infraction

I'm just asking that if they perceived a threat do you think rushing the car like that was the safest thing for everyone?

You get pulled over, be overly polite, have your documents ready when the cop arrives at your window. Be contrite if you know you were in the wrong. More often than not, the cop lets you off with a warning. Be a ****, prepare to receive the same energy in kind.

It blows my mind, be rude to anyone... the cashier at the store, the librarian, at the airport or DMV... why?

I once was overly friendly to the guy at the car rental counter and he gave me a fire red Mustang 5.0 for the same price of the economy car I rented just because. Don't be a ****... it's simple.

Of course when you're a woman beating, child abusing scumbag it's not so simple...

Well said! Being a "man" doesn't equate to being a ****. The overly rude people either have a hidden inferiority complex or a micro pee pee. Maybe both.

Let’s answer the first question before we move on to the next. Do we agree they should have required the window to be kept down?
This conversation will take many tangents if we don’t agree on the previous steps.
