OT: Deshaun Watson sued (again) for sexual assault

RUT ROW…

He played like crap yesterday, might be the thing Cleveland uses to dump him and get out of his contract.

The case goes back to 10/10/2020 in Houston, this time she is claiming sexual assault.
Yeah I won't be surprised if he ends up in the commissioners list of NFI. I don't see him long for the Browns. Guy really screwed his career. 20 plus lawsuits. Dam!

Is there any proof? How do you know if it is fabricated or not? The Browns can't get out of the contract because someone makes something up.
I feel you but. You know how it goes. Once one comes out they all do. Wether they can prove it or not. It's the Public pressure and perception. I can bet alot of them are fabricated.

Jeopardy - September, 2020

Hi Alex, I'll take: FACE DOWN, NAKED ON THE BED for $50.

That's a bit obtuse, when you're talking adjusting contracts of that size 'management' involves the owner and Jimmy Haslam isn't going to fire himself
Considering they’ve already done it twice, you’re foolish to think Haslam would have any sort of problem with doing it again to minimize the 2025 cap hit.

You might want to consider the totality of Watson's contract before you advise adding any of 2025's salary to the $73M he's guaranteed for 2026. Dead cap for Watson next year would be $173M.
You might want to learn some facts before you chastise others. Watson isn’t guaranteed $73 M in 2026, he is guaranteed $46 M. His dead cap is so high because they still owe him $92 M on the rest of the contract.

You need to learn the difference between what a guy’s guaranteed money and his cap hit is.

(Please NOTE that when I use the term “guaranteed” I am setting aside the possibility of it being voided due to recent events. If that happens, it changes the equation entirely)

What are the odds that NONE of these stories has any truth to them? One, maybe...two...ehhhh.... beyond three, it starts getting a little difficult to believe he's a victim of circumstance.

The difference with Watson's cap number vs everyone else's is that Watson's dollars are all real. No shifting signing bonuses, no tacked on years with plastic numbers, no void years. The Browns only chance is if this new lawsuit was somehow outside the scope the 400 other accusations already on the record and they have some clause they can use to get out of the deal. Haslam is a scumbag so him and Watson deserve each other but it sucks for the Browns fans who as good a fan base as any to be put in a position to root for that clown quarterback if they want the team to be any good.

Funny thing here is that a lot of eyebrows were raised taking Baker first overall (which was actually due to a big push by Eliot Wolf, who was the Browns' assistant GM for '18 and '19). This, in retrospect, was actually pretty smart. The "consensus" QB1 of that class, Darnold, wasn't actually that good, and although there are other QBs in that class that went on to be pretty good (Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson) they needed work to get there and it would have been quite a gamble to take them at #1.

Of course, then Wolf is gone a year later and it's up to the staff to maximize Baker and they blow it.

Then they brought in Stefanski and AVP to resolve things in 2020... Baker has a better couple seasons but then they say, nah, **** that and get rid of him. What they REALLY need is that boy Watson!!! Give him the biggest most guaranteed-est deal ever!!!

Total incompetence.

they can't void his contract for things he did before he signed the contract. the browns are stuck with him and they deserve each other. They knew he was a scumbag and they mortgaged the farm for him anyways

If he didn't disclose a material fact to the Browns then they certainly have a legit case to void the contract.

This guy is a bonafide sexual predator. Sad the amount of leeway the league gives guys with talent (see Tyreek Hill). There is really no excuse for this type of behavior. For anyone with sisters, a daughter, or generally just cares about women, this guy should not be allowed to be a "role model" for anyone...

Drunk driving, smoking weed, bar fights etc... everyone makes mistakes and I can't imagine how mentally taxing this league is. That can all be forgiven if the player shows remorse and gets help etc... This kind of stuff Watson is doing? absolutely unacceptable for the league to look past or not take this seriously.

I believe he disclosed and it was publicly know at the time that he was being sued for Sexual assaults' during this time. This is from that time frame, not something that happened AFTER he signed the contract

With all the sexual assault/harassment situations he had to report, there's a good chance he may have missed a couple.

They had all those rising stars and a shutdown defense. If only they’d done their homework, they could have found a diamond in the rough like Tampa Bay did with Baker Mayfield.

With all due respect, you have no idea whatsoever what Watson did or didn't disclose to the Brown when they signed the deal.

This isn't one of the masseuses who sued him, this is an entirely separate allegation. Personally, I find it very hard to believe he went out of his way to mention "by the way, I sexually assaulted a woman in 2020...."

I was in error in presenting the $73M as 'guaranteed' it is his current 2025 cap number, some of it having already been paid. $173M is his dead cap number next year providing Roger can't find a way to help a brother out and provide Haslam some relief from his own stupidity

I think most of us would find it hard to believe but in the world of the NFL, its teams and contracts nothing should surprise any of us

Then it seems we have no disagreement as my original posted stated Cleveland could convert his 2025 salary to signing bonus (just like they did this year) and that $72.9 MM hit becomes roughly $36 MM.

(And, as I previously noted, I am talking about the situation with his contract as it currently exists.... if they do void it, the numbers change somewhat)

Nah, he's got clauses in his contract for this very reason. Browns can void his contract and get out really cheap.

The cheap-ass criminal Browns ownership are doing the dance of joy today.
Maybe, I don’t know what’s written into his contract.

A shade under 100M unless the Browns file a complaint with the league and win some money back in arbitration.

The Pats got some of AB’s salary back, but it took a year and it was a small fraction of it. The player’s union have made this an uphill climb. They don’t want the owners collaborating to stiff players of money owed on trumped up charges.
