Great win. Running game rocked. Brissett was good enough. This is what we expected to see. He ran when he had to. Maye will be a huge upgrade. Brisset is slow with his reads and delivery. He is not a threat to throw once he starts scrambling.

I thought we were tanking ? Someone forgot to tell the players and the coaches.

The defense really did a phenomenal job. They got after the QB, held Burrow to under 200 yards, held the Bengals to 224 total yards, 4 for 11 on 3rd downs and 0 for 1 on fourth down. All without Barmore.

Stevenson was a beast, and as a team, 170 yards rushing. The offense, on a whole, not explosive, the passing game is obviously a work in progress.

Overall, couldn’t be happier. I’m pretty shocked that a team that is supposed to be a SB contender, in their home opener, pretty much got dominated by a team that went 4-13 last year. The Bengals are notorious for slow starts, but all praise has to go to the Pats. They came in there ready to rumble, scored early, forced turnovers, and played a great road game. It was an extremely happy opener.

Who knows our conservative game plan can work in the first 4 weeks when better teams try to shake off rust and commit too many mistakes / turnovers. Can we dream of 2-2 or 3-1 before maye starts over.
If we are 3-1 or even 2-2 why will Maye take over?

So, it’s basically the same team as last season, same personnel, same type of game, low scoring, slow tempo … the difference being that the team wasn’t saddled by Mac freakin’ Jones and instead of eeking out a loss, they came out on the winning end (largely because Mac wasn’t here to turn the ball over half a dozen times).

I’m going to feel rather bitter if Belichick was ****-canned without being given an opportunity to coach a full season without Mac Jones, and if the team that he built goes on to have success with a different QB.

And to be clear, a large part of that bitterness is rooted in the fact that Kraft unconditionally supported Jones and forced Belichick to go down with him. If BB died on the Jones’ hill by himself, fair play to oust him, but BB didn’t die on that hill; the owner put him in an impossible situation where BB was forced to ride out Jones at Kraft’s request, but in the process of appeasing the owner, hammered a nail in his own coffin. Yuck.

All my personal griping aside, congrats to the team for an impressive win. The same core guys who contributed today have been here for awhile; the team simply needed QB play that wasn’t atrocious in order to win.
Yeah I don't agree with this sentiment at all. BB managed to flub so many offensive skill picks in his last 5 or 6 years. His ST fell apart at the end too. It looks like the team was quitting on him that last year too.

I think the game has passed BB by at the end from the looks of things and he didn't hesitate to pick Jones at 15. So the end really was on him. Also the wayb they handled the Brady departure was just criminal. The word behind the scenes was that he built a case to show Kraft just how much he had declined. When that really wasn't the case. If there was one guy you could bet on beating father time, it's TB

Unbelievable. Way to cost ourselves the #1 pick
Not necessarily.

Unexpected wins DO happen, even for the worst of teams.

It is a baseball reference, but as Bob Eucker once pointed out, no matter how bad the hitter, or how great the pitcher, sometimes the pitcher is just going to hit your bat.

I’m referring to the Panthers and Giants, not the Pats.

Pretty much what you hoped for. Defense played well though again Burrow is so overrated, but he’s better than Jacoby.

AVP had a great conservative game plan, Bengals turnovers were big.
Felt like would have been up 28-0 if Maye had played. I would have the caveat that he might make a stupid rookie play also, but then Jacoby did that in the end zone and got away with it.

If you think mac is the only difference from last year you weren’t paying close enough attention to that season. Today we had no killer penalties, played very solid special teams, and the OL was functional despite talent limitations. This was the clearest game weve played probably since one of those zappe wins in early 22. We don’t win this game without the whole team soon their job.

Last year the entire operation was ****, thats how you end up 4-13. If the operation is anywhere like it was today the team could flirt with .500. If we should give Bill a shout in here id say he built us a very nice defense. Hopefully we can keep it together long enough until we finally get the offense going.

Chill the jets on playing Maye. This is a bridge year, it won’t hold him back to bring him along slowly.

OL pass blocking was mediocre at best. After Rham, Jacoby is the reason the Pats won this game. Pass blocking may improve but will not likely become dominant without an infusion of talent, and that won’t happen this year. The idea that playing Maye is essential for his development overlooks that development being behind bad pass blocking. Is it really that important and useful to develop his skills at escaping or being hit or throwing it away or dumping it off? He will get enough of those anyway, no need to give him a crash course on being a tackling dummy.
I am thinking around 6 games of Brissett and then Maye comes on for the final ~11. Basically a college season length. They'll start him slow and then start letting him do more.

If that does happen, at least Jacoby started off 1-0. Of the next 5 games (Seattle, Jets, Niners, Dolphins, Texans) I am guessing they can win another 1 or 2 games based on today's results. So if Maye can step into things with his team being 3-3, and the back half of the schedule being lighter, I think a playoff berth could be in reach?

If we are 3-1 or even 2-2 why will Maye take over?
Because the game is coming where the other guys score points. The Bengals looked awful today.

What this game showed us is that this team will battle every week, contest every game. They're not a bad team. The OL is physical, will clean up its mistakes and improve week to week - not "trash" as some would say. They got surge and punished the Bengals.

I never heard such "world is ending" drivel here as the past few days leading up to this game. So many critics of Wolf, Mayo, the QB, the Krafts, the old coach. Before the first game of the year!

Who would have thought Cinci would be so pathetic. I missed my prediction by 4 points I gave them 2 touchdowns. They couldn't do that.
