Boutte should be out there over him... IMO the top of the depth chart should be Thornton/Boutte or Polk/Douglas... Osborn and Baker as reserves

The team was universally complimented for not quitting last year.

And he DID hesitate to pick Jones if you watched the video. He wanted to part with him fast but the Krafts didnt. The stuff with Brady, you got that all wrong too. He showed Kraft a chart to show how fast QBs decline at the age of 37 (this was back when they picked Garoppolo). He was preparing for life with a 40 year old QB. People act like this was the wrong thing to do. The 49ers took Steve Young when Joe Montana was 31. The Packers took Aaron Rodgers when Brett Favre was 33. The Colts to Andrew Luck in that range as well. And here we are complaining that Belichick was making plans to move on from a 42 year old!!! It's insane. If he hadn't done that, it was malpractice.

Here's how you may be right: say the complete opposite of everything you wrote, and you'd be right.

I don't understand your point. So Bill wanted to and let Brady walk. What did he do to prepare for that? Cam Newton? Jones, a draft pick he didn't want? Fact is he let the GOAT walk away with no prep for what came after.

Brissett wasn't impressive by any means.
But, he took some big hits, made some important 1st down runs, and most importantly - didn't turn it over.
That's the only difference from last 2 years & today's offense. JB didn't throw a INT or Fumble.
One mistake (like Mac would've made) would have turned the game around. So props to him.

But, it's also going to be a building excitement to when Maye can play - to take this offense to the next level.

This is a pleasant surprise start to the season. Don't forget that the Patriots were heavy underdogs, by 7.5 points, going into this road game.

Mayo had the players well prepared. The defense in particular played terrific. They kept Burrow and the Bengals in check all game. Our D forced turnovers and made life very difficult for a deep and talented Bengals offense.

Hey we didn't light up the scoreboard, but nobody expected that. The Pats offense did just enough to win and our new kicker, Joe Slye, was flawless in a game where every point was important! Brissett played well and Stevenson was the workhorse we needed him to be.

There's really nothing to do but applaud Mayo's first career win as Patriots head coach. This is an important win to start the season. Although I don't expect a lot more of this, it does give the players a taste for winning and builds confidence in their coach and "the plan" going forward. Bravo Mayo, job well done in Week 1!

Great win, loved so much about it. Just keep in mind that the defense played incredibly well and the Pats got 170 rushing yards and still only managed to score 16 points against a team whose defense last year gave up the 2nd most yards and was 21st ranked in points allowed. So....a really bad defense and NE only got 16 points.

Obviously I'm thrilled with the victory and seeing the running game do that work was great but a good offense probably would have put up about 30+ on Cincy today. But this is how the Pats are going to have to win games as long as Brissett is the QB.

I mean he did throw an awful back foot pass that was picked and without Henry awareness would have turn the game in a typical BB - Mac Jones game last year

Lol, if making the pick in 15 seconds is hesitating, then I'd like to see not hesitant.

So you're saying I was wrong that he put together content that showed Kraft Brady was or would decline. Sounds like you're splitting hairs there. Either way, he wanted Brady out with his too early than too late philosophy and that backfired on him. Big time.

Also, can you show me who was saying the team didn't quit on him? Because I watched a team that just fell apart and didn't play with the same level of commitment or discipline the last year. How many times did they make uncharacteristic mistakes or plays that showed complete lack of discipline? It was way more than usual. That sounds like a coach that has lost the locker room to me.

Also, is the part about screwing the pooch on offensive picks, especially around WR wrong too? Because that seems consensus to me.

Agree. In fairness, I’ll wait to rewatch to see of maybe Osborne was blocking really well (which matters) but as a WR he’s useless

He took Garoppolo. Then Bob Kraft made it a federal case for expending a pick on the next starting QB. They seriously held Garoppolo against Belichick. What do you think the conversations were like during 2017 in JGs 3rd year? It was clear that Kraft thought it was wrong to have Brady's replacement on hand.
