OT: Aiyuk saga ends re-signs with SF 4/$120m extension

The price had better be pretty damn reasonable, never mind doubled. Williams is 36 an has a curent contract (that he considers inadequate) has 3 years on it at $20M, $22.5M and $32M and it would need to sweetened considerably to get him to come here. No skin off this year but down the line that's a lot of cap to have tied up in a player his age.
and how much of those numbers are guaranteed?

thats where you seal the deal.

Let's say he wants a 4 yr deal and 30m, and the 49ers want a 1st. Still pay it?

@Uptown I bet it's 30m per year. All guaranteed.
Not a first.

Will give them a third.

If only he were a few years younger; then again, he wouldn’t be available. Would’ve been sweet if we could’ve landed Wirfs a while back. Let’s see who may become available by the trade deadline. If not, Will Campbell it is..

He'd want his deal sweetened AND all of it guaranteed to come here. Remember he's holding out on that contract

Dude is 36. I dunno. I mean, you essentially trade Judon for him. Eff it. Call him up.

tack on 4% for taxachussetts and call it a day, deal done.

Left Tackle? we gave up a second for Sanu. I can give up a third for Trent Williams

That’s the funny thing about the Aiyuk deal. Paying California state tax and the incredible cost-of-living prices of the San Francisco area didn’t send him running. It’s almost like state taxes only matter when a free agent doesn’t want to come here anyway.

Let's suck this year, grab the 1 draft pick, trade down to 3 or 5 collect an extra 1st and 2nd and grab the OT off the board.

The extra 1st and 2nd should help us get additional blue chip players . Load up next year with additional cap and draft picks . We have 4 picks in top 80 next year. And if we get an extra 2nd that's 5 potential impact players in maye's actual starting season.

Eagles came from the ashes with wentz trade netting them and extra 1st and 3rd.

Texans came out through Watson trade . For us Judon trade and the 1st draft pick next year will be the sign of good beginnings.

Right, you have the extra 3rd from trading your own older guy you didn’t totally need who wanted a big new deal. Use that same pick to bring in an older guy you absolutely need really bad and pay him instead.

As far as I can tell, his current situation is that his salaries for 2024-2026 are $20M, $22M and $32M but none of those are guaranteed at all. He got fairly low guarantees relative to his salary/years back in 2021. So he is probably feeling like he will get screwed out of the juiciest part of his contract if he gets hurt. Thus, he likely wants to either bump these wages up or make them mostly guaranteed, or some combination of the two.

If it’s possible I would bring him in, toss his current salary structure in the trash and just make it a new 3 year/$75M deal with $55M guaranteed. That way he is getting the same value as most of that cash he was worried about upfront and in the event he’s still good in that third year, he can be kept and paid a chunky salary in year 3; if he’s fallen off you can cut him and recoup some savings, and he got most of his money already in the first two years.

49ers have a good backup LT in Jaylon Moore, so I can see them dealing Trent Williams. I wouldn’t give up anything more than the Falcons pick to get him though.

Yup Aiyuk ended up playing everybody just to get more money. I'm glad the Steelers didn't get Aiyuk though. Because screw them, am I right?

I don't understand this talk of giving up a 3rd round pick for a 36 year old tackle who will end up retiring in a year or two. We only got a 3rd round pick for a pro bowl DE in Judon.

Gotta face facts, we're going to suck for a couple of years. Buying band aids with draft pick capital is not a long term solution.

Dang. Isn't the 49ers WR depth chart like all their 1st and 2nd round picks of the last 5 years? They gotta shake someone loose eventually.

True, he won’t directly help us win a championship, but he would be great for Maye’s development, which should help in the long run.

There is a difference between sucking from the win perspective and sucking so bad that the young guys regress. No problem over paying salary wise for a year or two, a third seems too high for a player his age.

We totally need a top end EDGE guy.

$55M guaranteed for a 36 year old player? For a team in a 2 to 3 year rebuild? Seems like a huge mistake to me. Why pay for an old guy when the team is barely a playoff team? Maybe for a team like Detroit making a run for a Super Bowl, but I can't see any team in a rebuild taking on that type of a contract.

We don't Need a 36 Year old player on this Team I hope they stay away no thanks.
