OT: Aiyuk saga ends re-signs with SF 4/$120m extension

Sounds like he just wanted to squeeze San Fran for as much as he could but wanted to stay there. I get it. I did the same thing at my company.

He chose Purdy over Brissett?
Wasn't he aware "Jacoby is a huge upgrade over Mac"?

He’ll pull a hamstring in the first game against the Jets.

What a weird saga. I get players look to squeeze out the most they can, but this one was an adventure.

Love the player, but he’s 36.
Definitely wonder about comp. Would it be a 2025 third rounder plus a player like the rumored Aiyuk deal?

And then what does he cost to extend? And how many good years do you get out of him? Seems like maybe a bad deal, though at the same time, you're buying at least a couple of years of premier level protection for your rookie QB while you probably also draft and develop other young tackles at the same time.

Worth chewing on.

If we get two good years out of him, the price, what ever it is, is worth it. Double the price is worth it. Buys you time to get and develop a long term LT prospect.

Considering the trade to Pittsburgh is "almost complete", this certainly complicates matters.
I am so happy we had the grace to step away from the table after the calvin ridley debacle, and that the stealers got played for the sucker this time.

True. But he's also 36x better than anyone on our OL.

Yeah, currently…but what about the astronomical cost for a 36-37 year old rental?

Let's say he wants a 4 yr deal and 30m, and the 49ers want a 1st. Still pay it?

@Uptown I bet it's 30m per year. All guaranteed.

The price had better be pretty damn reasonable, never mind doubled. Williams is 36 and his curent contract (that he considers inadequate) has 3 years on it at $20M, $22.5M and $32M and it would need to sweetened considerably to get him to come here. No skin off this year but down the line that's a lot of cap to have tied up in a player his age.

No one is coughing up a 1st or 2nd for the dubious honor of taking that cap hit
