I wonder how far away strange is and if he could end up at LT.

Lowe should not be on the field.
I was thinking that I hear they are planning to have Strange work at Center. I think we are fine at Center with Andrews...we Need a Guy who can at least play LT decently. Strange have the make up of a zone blocking LT.

I'm a big believer in strength up the middle on the OL. If a smart QB has room to step up in the pocket, you can do a lot of cover up sub-par tackle play (most of the time). If the middle is getting pushed, it not only means a QB has a harder time stepping into throws, but it may force them to drop deeper and right into edge rushers that would normally be forced too deep themselves. So I'd rather put Onwenu at guard, where I think he's at his best and can help provide that. Tackles are going to have to be covered up via scheme for 2024 most likely.
Yeah, if the tackle gets beat, the QB can manage this by stepping up in the pocket. Conversely, if the middle is pushed back then the QB gets pushed back, which leads him to being even more susceptible to edge pressure like a sitting duck. If the middle is strong, Drake can move and get the ball out, escape the pocket to extend the play, or just run away.

You get a wrench too.

QBs: Better. Maye, Brissett and Milton are better than Jones, Zappe and whoever else was here.
WRs: Better
RBs: Better
TEs: Same or Better
OL: No improvement seen yet, Chuks and Wallace TBD. Maybe Worse.

Do you understand how bad the offense was?
Brissett is barely an improvement.
WR is unknown.
RB is not better. Elliot is better than Gibson. At best it’s a non-significant difference.
TE is not better. Gesicki is better than Hooper.
Again all of these are in the best possible slant, minor improvement, and it relies on rookies being good as rookies.
OL worse.

I do understand how bad the offense was and even in the must optimistic outlook it is only marginally better.

But the only real attempt at improving was using the draft picks they were awarded. That’s not an effort to improve.

They left 50 mill on the table and the best they could do was
1 yr 8 mill qb who sucks
1 yr 4 mill WR
1 year 4 mill T
Aging TE at what? Vet minimum?

That’s not trying.

It began with the Cam Newton signing....and the team has been grooming us to accept suck ever since
Can’t blame Legarm Newton because we couldn’t afford anyone else.

Yes he does and played LT in college at a high level (along with G ofc). He should have been an LT here from the start.

The comments about strange at C seemed to be that he could fill in there. Once he is healthy he will be on the field and Andrews is the last spot you want to replace.

But but we didn't throw 50M at more expensive jags than the jags we already had!

I liked Elliot. Gesicki sucked. I think Gibson will be better. And Hooper definitely is better. Not a huge difference either way though.

He is surely more of a T than Onwenu and LT vs RT doesn’t mean that much any more because if you have one that sucks they will move rushers around for the matchup.
If Onwenu ends up at RT he will be facing the speed rushers.

Not really. Polk is day 1 starter. Baker may be an unknown but has upside like Douglas did as a rookie post camp. KJ Osborne is better than JJSS. By a lot.

Disagree. Elliot was meh at best. Gibson is a solid 3rd down back that they 100% needed.
TE is not better. Gesicki is better than Hooper.
Disagree. Gesicki sucked, and was not coachable.

It is.

You keep saying this. What savior was out there they could have signed that makes them markedly better?

Really getting what we paid for can't make chicken salad out of Chicken fill in the blank ___________.

My guess would be Robinson goes in at LG and Onwenu goes back inside to RG. Wallace or Okorafor at RT. This is assuming Lowe is back as well at LT.

I doubt the new tackles will be ready to go week 1.
Totally agree here.
It seems like the team encouraged Onwenu to prepare to play guard - he's pretty stout this summer to play tackle, must have focused on power over speed and agility. He's a very good interior lineman; a decent tackle.
As a run-first team, having three solid interior linemen is critical. So Andrews, Onwenu, Robinson/Sow in those slots.
Tackle has been a disaster. Lowe is the only one with any left tackle experience, and the Chuks transition seems to have failed.
So it's likely Lowe and Chuks starting, with Wallace at swing. With hopes that Demontrey shows LT potential in their system over the year.

A rotten situation, self inflicted.
They've allocated about $7M to the tackle room. Not a great way to develop a young QB.

But the best line is probably Lowe, Robinson/Sow, Andrews, Onwenu, Chuks/Wallace.

And now to see the next round of waived guys

But but we didn't throw 50M at more expensive jags than the jags we already had!
There were dozens of good players available in free agency.

But yeah, this was the only year ever that everyone in free agency sucks and all those teams that paid them are stupid, they should have saved money and won 3 games.

My god when did this fan base just start liking having crappy players and defending that it’s the right way? It’s like the twilight zone.

Does Bob Krafts financials really mean that much to you?

If Onwenu ends up at RT he will be facing the speed rushers.
He also has the same build as Matt Light…but Strange is more athletic. A 100% healthy Strange would be better then any LT on the roster or FA.

These two drills hint pretty strongly at Okorafor, Leverett, Andrews, Robinson, Onwenu

Agree I feel if this is the best we can do our QB should be alright and not constantly on the run.

Strange - Sow - Andrews - Onwenu - Chuck Oakafor

The difference between Zappe, jones and brissett isn’t moving the needle in wins and loses.

Osborne is a jag. Rookie are rookie.

Elliott/ Stevenson on 3rd is better than Gibson on 3rd. Gibson appears to be RB2 though and hasty the 3rd down back. Minimal in either direction here.

Think what you want about gesicki but we are consorting him to hooper.

Why would there have to be a savior? We had 50,000,000 that could fill 8-10 starting positions and/or innumerable depth players.
We have holes throughout the roster, we have role players as our starters and practice squad guys as backups.

Look at all the players who changed teams in free agency and trades. I counted at least 70 (not including aging players) who would have been better than guys we have. It’s not that they missed a player it’s that they sat out free agency while many players who could have improved this team went past
