I've Seen Enough of Drake Maye...

What will he really learn from Brissett?? How to not play QB??

Maye will learn that if you do not diagnose pressure correctly or keep a short clock in your head, you will get hurt bad. All he has to do is watch what happens to Brissett.

You could think of it as some sort of deterrent training:

Start Brissett until the OL gets their **** together. I do believe the Patriots have found their franchise QB, and I don’t want to see him get destroyed before his career really gets going. Last night we saw the reasons he was the #3 overall pick, he’s got the arm, athleticism, and football sense to have a long and successful career, no need to rush him in now.

Maye has shown potential, but I still think it would be wise for him to sit at least a week or two.

Let him get a feel for the weekly NFL schedule grind before you just throw him to the wolves.

Very interesting to hear mayo say that, how will he justify brissett starting if hes named starter? There was the whole ‘drake should sit and learn from what we see defenses do in real games’ excuse but didn’t he say the better qb will be starting? (I could be imagining this)

I don’t think id prefer it but id be okay if they want to start maye. Plenty qbs have gotten their arse kicked year 1 and bounced back. The key is you don’t want it to be a multi year thing like with Luck
Last night during his presser Mayo said Drake was the #2. Then this morning he says Maye has out played Brissett. Sound like he may not know who to name the starter.

Maye is nowhere near where he needs to be, to be an NFL-ready QB. He needs to become familiar with how complex NFL pressure schemes are. He will learn from Brissett, the sacrificial lamb.
They said the EXACT same thing about Herbert, who was going to sit behind Tyrod Taylor until injury forced him in and, they were wrong then like they are wrong now. Quotes from that time about Herbert are almost verbatim, all he did was become Rookie of the Year.

Like there is no film on these complex pressures. They just happen in a game, and nobody ever prepped or seen them before and just a veteran figures it out because they are a veteran?

How did Herbert do it? How did Stroud do it? Maye's a better prospect than either of them so I think he'll be fine.

And we have bunch of Tumors masquerading as NFL Offensive Linemen.
not tumors, just lumps of immobile flesh dressed up in pads & fancy uniforms

Yeah he was ROY yet went 7-9. Alternatively you could look at Mahomes who sat out a full year but went 12-4 once he started.

Herbert has done what, exactly? lead his team to one second place finish, two third place finishes, and a fourth place finish... hell Mac Jones did that

CJ Stroud? we'll see if he can recapture lightning in a bottle...

I agree with your point about not coddling a young high priced QB talent. I only hope you are also right about Maye being as good as Herbert and Stroud. Those guys are legit.

Thread should read, “I’ve seen enough of BoneyT.”

I would answer: That he’s not very good.

If you start him now he may die before that game
I guarantee you he will not die.

Adversity makes players better.
Every qb ever faced games where his OL plays like crap. Why not get that experience?

I should not laugh at this... don't like cancer analogies

Rookie of the year? The question is if they play Maye the rookie year and how much, I think ROY is pretty good if Maye gets that I think we'd consider that a success or are you suggesting they ruined Herbert by letting him have one of the best rookie QB years ever?

Herbert's tape is excellent, his coach and GM were crap.

Cmon,man.
Not enough evidence to say that...yet.
It sounds like you have an agenda
Just reacting to how he is handling this issue. Not condemning him. “Seems like” is pretty tame criticism.

Waffling already and making conflicting comments on the QBs, his entire answers about the penalties and the OL, his statement now that he doesn’t want to be a players coach.
So far his public persona sounds like a guy over his head.

Why would I have an agenda? I want him to succeed. What agenda could I possibly have against him?

I think it's probably that Mayo the coach has a plan of Maye not getting anywhere near the field so he learns and is ready when he steps in. However, Mayo the player believes in earning your job and so Maye's performance is creating a conflict between the 2. That's my read.

I said this many times, it would be insane to start Maye with this OL after Brissett took all 1st team snaps.

Stats without wins to back up the fancy numbers. A real Archie Manning

That argument has no logic behind it, now we are suggesting the QB is solely responsible for a W-L record?
Mahomes played his rookie year he probably wins them a Super Bowl, so yeah glad he sat too.
