With all the talk of small, speedy receivers, I was wondering how folks felt about the very up and down case for Boutte?

Had a promising freshman year at LSU, then battled an injury and system change (from what I understand) that dropped him from prospective 1st round talent to a end of draft snag by Wolf.

Had a rough first year here, and then after failing to secure his feet in bounds, it seems he was trusted less and less.

Has the most reception yards out of WR's in Pats preseason this year. Has great hands. While he posted an average 40, he has a lot of burst.

Dunno why I want to hold out hope that this guy can turn a corner and etch out his spot on the roster and contribute - how do you all feel? Is he redundant with the likes of Pop Douglas already securing a spot? I dunno. I'm about as good as Bill at evaluating WR talent.

Does it say anything that the team wanted to hold onto him thru the charges? Did they assist in all 8,900 charges (what a hilariously large number) getting dropped? Do they see something in him?

Pardon if this has been discussed to death already, I haven't been on as much lately. Feel free to delete if so.

The case is that Tyquan has done absolutely nothing in a game to earn a roster spot. Boutte hasn’t done much either but I’ve at least seen Boutte almost make a few catches in the regular season and seen him make plays in pre-season.

I know Boutte's lawyer said the charges have all been dropped but the kid just seems immature. There was the rumor about him being part of that LSU sex party thing. The whole ordeal about him announcing he was coming back to LSU for his senior season, then not playing in the bowl game and declaring for the draft instead. Then of course, the allegation he was betting on football when he was in school.

Boutte seems to be living off of being a 5 star recruit that had a great freshman year which is now 4 years ago. Apparently the kid was a track star on a record breaking track team in Louisiana then after an ankle injury and some questionable rehab ran a 4.6 at the combine. Seems like he has some growing up to do still and the clock is ticking.

There’s little evidence that he has earned a contributing role this season, as he’s likely the #7 WR once Bourne returns. But the Patriots are far from all-in for 2024, so if they think he’s a future contributor then they should figure out a way to keep him. He’s under contract for minimum salary next season, something that can’t be said about Osborn, Bourne, or Reagor despite their spots ahead of him on the depth chart right now.

Tyquan says but... but I'm running with the so called ones.

This much I agree with. I keep hearing the "He's open but never thrown to" about Tyauan and I feel like that can't be happening 100% of the time. Maybe I missed some notes in training camp, though.

He was pretty young to be heading to the NFL, and he went from what seems to be a loose environment to the tightest work culture in the NFL, where you're expected to treat it as work and not play.

I would hope for some growing up and him sniffing the grass of reality, it'd be nice to see him flourish, but to your point, it's been awhile since his freshman year and that can only go so far in showing his potential.

If they cut Boutte, I doubt any team will take him. We overrate our players, and last year there were few claims around the league.

Boutte will get this chance sometime.
Boutte will be a Bill and it will bite us in the Butt,
I would keep him and trade Bourne.

I'm not a big Bourne fan, but Boutte still has mental mistakes/drops that he needs to clean up.

He may eventually be good, but another team is not going to bother with Boutte at this point.

We don't have the strongest WR room. No one will be interested in our castoff. Everyone has their own Boutte.

I would rather keep him than Tyquan

I think Boutte has made a great case for himself to be on the active roster this year. He has shown great ability to separate , make the tough catches, and go up and take the ball away from defenders. To the contrary Thornton has not shown much….he has continued to struggle in training camp, still has difficulty separating, and we all know how fragile he is!!!! I think Thornton is unfortunately a BUST and it’s time for him to go….Expect big things from Boutte this year!

Reagor is a return guy for the most part…..replace him with Wallis on ST and keep Boutte. Thornton is a bust and will either be ineffective or injured once again…..BB messed up on him ….time to cut bait

The case is that he had a great freshman year in college and SURELY might have the potential to be a top WR.

They say Boutte has come on strong towards the end of camp. We have a lot of serviceable WR ahead of him, so Its hard to see where he'd get playing time unless there were a slew of injuries. Perhaps he's moved up the depth chart ahead of Baker, but they need to keep Baker and hope he develops and realizes his upside.

The case? The Pats have one of the worst WR rooms in the league and they need all the help they can get.

At this point, I think Boutte makes the practice squad. And if he gets plucked by another team, I don't think the team will be too upset.
