Maye must play

I think you don't want maye to play and get injured for the first 4 games which is extended preseason .

We paid brissett to take those hits whike the offensive line gels. Once the Online settles in get maye .

Right now brissett is a stop gap punching bag who will get paid 6.5 million to absorb those punches for first 4-5 games.

Can zappe do that better ? If answer is yes, we should trade brissett for whatever loss we can take and have zappe start.

Having Brisett's NFL experience and familiarity with AVP's offense in the QB room make him worth the one year investment regardless of who starts

This isn’t Mahomes sitting behind Alex Smith on a playoff team, Rivers behind Brees, Rodgers behind Favre, Love behind Rodgers, or anything like that. What’s the precedence for a QB sitting behind a guy like Brissett who, respectively, is terrible?
Love was the inactive #3 behind Tim Boyle, the active #2, who is terrible (0-5, 4 TD, 12 INT in his career).

Care was a toad, it didn’t matter whether he played or sat.
Luck was great, but if you refuse to ever have a decent OL you will have qb injury problems. Lucks issues had nothing to do with starting week 1.
Regarding Luck, I was referring to the OL. The hits added up causing him to want to retire. By the time the Colts invested in the OL, it was too late and he made up his mind to leave the game.

That and he was ****ty at reading defenses and getting the ball out quick.

Why the hell would he do that? Are we talking a few to add some wrinkles or was Zo insinuating that its because Maye isn’t picking up the Pats offense?
He was just summarizing that Drake has really picked up the offense.. and AVP wants him to use his athletic ability whenever the pmay breaks down. Like he showed yesterday. I think it's pretty evident Drake is the best chance for the team to have any type of winning this season.

IF he does not play, his development will happen during daily practice
I don't disagree. But other rookies that had a chance to sit and learn for example Rodgers had a future HOF to man the position. There was no rush to start the rookie.

Here is a thought.

We have been debating whether the Pats should keep four QBs and would they cut Zappe.

Would Brissett be a cut candidate instead of Zappe?

Not sure that would be the right move in terms of leadership to mentor Maye, but is Zappe worse than Brissett?
Dude I almost started a thread on this Biscuit looks very cuttable. Wouldn't surprise me if he got cut he looks horrible poor arm strength and decision making.

Whatever happened to this guy anyway? He was great his rookie year.
Blew out his knee bad in that playoff game, never the same. All it took was a muddy field and a bad snap. You just never know.

They need a veteran to plug the gap, Brissett, Zappe or another QB off the scrap heap. It doesn't really matter. One sneaky benefit of having Maye start after some number of bad games from a veteran will take some of the pressure off the rookie. If he starts game 1 he will carry the expectations of the entire season.

They were calling college plays from NC because Maye has really picked up AVP’s offense?

As a Zappe-ite, this is the most realistic ideal situation for me. The guy's got so much moxie that the deafening boos for Maye to play are not gonna affect him.

If it were up to me, unless there's a relative miracle with OL, I'd treat this whole season like practice and go with the usually terrible decision of QB by committee similar to what Brady and Henson went through. Since Maye played only 12 games last year, have QB1 start then Maye take over whenever. Adjust as needed until he starts. Reminiscent of the Marino plan.

***Note that part of Maye's decline last year was likely due to injury. He played 4 weeks with a sore ankle (pedal ankle bruise) starting in late Sept around his 1st loss, and then in his last game, he suffered a Pedal Ankle Sprain/Pull Unspecified Grade 1. This could get ugly for Maye and the Pats VERY QUICKLY if they're not careful. Had enough of ankle injuries (or injuries in general) and Pats' 1st Rd draft picks recently.

I agree to a point. This game makes the team think, like you say, because:

1. Maye's performance was very encouraging. He has athleticism we have not seen in a LONG while. He does go through progresssions (he really does and it is not forced). Maye has a NFL QB's brain and athleticism.

2. Maye looks really raw. As Zo noted Maye shuffled in the pocket well in one of the early series, but as he played more he reverted to his 'duck and run' approach from his college days. Maye is trying but the improved footwork and mechanic training is not natural for him yet. And Maye looks like a young kid at 21 that needs to be in the weight room for a couple of years.

3. Recognizing 2 above, I would have no problem sitting Maye, but when you compare him to Brissett, Maye looks like ************ Superstar. Brissett is a lot worse than I remember. Brissett is abysmal. What were the Pats thinking signing Brissett? Holy Moly. If you are Mayo and Wolf how can you put Brissett on the field and say you are putting a product on the field people will watch? Mayo and Wolf will be ridiculed if they start Brissett.
Biscuit was a terrible signing I said so from Day 1 what was AVP thinking the guy doesn't move the needle. How is he still in this League he doesn't even play like an experienced vet.

Regardless of last night and the next preseason game and practices, I believe Brisket will start the year.

No question his leash just got a little shorter...
Maye says...

I will add this ... I don't see Brissett looking very motivated.
He's playing for a head coach who is a professional motivational speaker.
Team kind of jumped too soon signing him ... short term Zappe is extremely motivated to further his career elsewhere.

oh well Jerod/Eliot show your balls ... team is better off long term without him ... like Judon right ???

Respect your opinions as a rule Vin, just think about that for a minute please.
Our man Biscuit is an 8 year pro. I wouldn't exactly feel warm and fuzzy about him seeming 'jacked and pumped' for preseason reps behind a **** O line. In fact, if he was I'd think he was a candidate for a rubber room. He sure looked like he gave a damn reacting to his endzone INT though, he was downwright pissed at himself
