I sure hope that the Patriots don't act surprised or disappointed by the OL play this year. They only have themselves to blame. I pointed out the LT problem right after the draft. They were pathetic in Free Agency this year; they don't seem to have gotten the message that no one wants play for the Patriots any longer, and they will have to get over their cheapskate ways. The Patriots again practically ignored the hole at LT during the draft and now face a long season of trying various turnstiles at LT.

I know that some of you must hate Madden, but he said that the way to build a team is to start with high draft picks at LT and CB. Then when you get a QB, he will not get slaughtered. It is not glamorous or popular with the fans, but it works. Burning a high draft pick on a glitzy QB but not giving him protection is what teams run by owners do.

OK

Yes, we should build a team for our QB with high draft picks at LT and CB. this wasn't a one-year rebuild.

We used a high draft choice for a CB in 2023, and a high draft pick for a QB in 2024.

We didn't like what was available in the 2nd at LT and couldn't secure a trade into the first. So, in order to make for the travesty of not doing everything in one year, we will need to wait until 2025 for our LT, hopefully a first.

BOTTOM LINE
You seem to want us to draft highly for needs at QB, CB and LT.

So far, we've used two firsts and presumably will continue and use a 1st next year for an LT.

Why do you think that this isn't the proper plan?

They've been ignoring LT for the last several years because they fell in love with Trent Brown.

Get the LT anchor first before the QB, but wow Brissett looked horrible....there had to be a FA out there who could actually hit his WRs.

I was hoping we kept Trent he's leagues better than what we currently have. Maye will be in there sooner rather than later with those turnstyles. Be happy that Maye can run Biscuit will not last.

What? If you don't get the QB when you have a chance to get 1 then you never get a QB. You are not drafting anyone better than Drake Maye in the near future.
Chiefs proved you don't need good tackles; you can have 2 of the worst tackles in the NFL and win a Super Bowl. Have a bad QB and you can't even make the playoffs.

Last night showed the same, Maye had a free rusher and the right tackle beat instantly, both plays were completed. Milton was able to just scramble away from the pass rush, same as Mayes ability to do so.

Having a great tackle is a nice advantage but since we know 100% for sure based on Chiefs you can win it all with crappy tackles I have no idea why someone would say get a tackle and ignore the chance to get a QB prospect that is actually one of the few in the last 10 years that was actually worth being drafted #1 overall, and you get him at 3.

Ekwonu and Neal are working out great as top tackles from the 2022 draft, NOT! You don't just take a highly rated tackle to take a tackle.

Drafting a tackle over Maye? WHAT?

Jacoby is not a starting NFL QB, he has the arm, he has the processing and smarts, he underthrows deep balls and is very inconsistent on accuracy on other throws. They have 1 starting caliber NFL QB on the roster: Drake Maye. So psyched they drafted him, there would be no hope for this franchise without Maye.

Let's wait until the scrimmage to anoint how Maye looks in that is going to be key for his development He needs a couple of halfs in our next two Preseason games.

You can I don't need to. Maye is the real deal, I will anoint away

MIlton?
Please show me the impressive throws that Milton made last night, he looked like he did in college. Accuracy issues, can't throw the 10-15 yard passes with the proper pace, doesn't process past 1st read.

What throws below impressed you? He had 2 tight window throws, neither complete and 1 was almost a pick 6. He never thru to anyone but his first read. Without all-22 available hard to say if the 2 runs were the right choice until I can see what he had downfield.

5 yard pass to 1st read, open by 5 yards
2 yard pass on roll out, ez dump off to wide open guy, 1st read
Fun scramble, good run
Delay of Game if no TO called
Easy dump off on play action, to RB, open by 6 yards, 1st read
Telegraphed out, almost a pick 6, 1st read
Throw to Boutte, thru his hands, should have been caught, 1st read, could have taken a tad off making it easier to catch, could have thrown a second sooner, Clean pocket, solid throw overall
Good scramble and run, had a crosser looked open, need to see all 22 to see if he made right decision
Mis-communication with receiver, receiver stopped, he thru a go, flag made it moot
Wide open TD on double move, thru behind receiver, could have just led him, 5 yards open
He looked left originally, then right, had open guys to right but came right back to left for TD, so was likely 1st read if safety moved, which he did

Dude it was a joke you didn't have to write all that. Like I said Maye needs a couple of halfs to win me over he needs to play in these games to simulate game conditions. Hated his one series last night that said don't sleep on Milton. Sometimes it's the one we think very little of who becomes the Player RGIII - Cousins Harry - Meyers - Milton - Maye say??? I'm just saying.

Good chance we will be taking a left tackle high in the draft this year. Any tackle you get in FA or trades has red flags. Draft is really only way to get great tackles.

Why was Jake the Latest Fake drafted so highly, when Every Single scouting service had him pegged as a late day-3/UDFA talent?

Because Bill & Al Groh’s kid are ****ING IDIOTS.
Why did we keep drafting interior linemen when we've needed tackles lol.

Not feeling much better about OT from the camp reports and game 1. Still feel like this will be our achilles heel and make for a pretty rough year unfortunately. But hopefully next year we can prioritize LT and hope for either wallace/chuks to work out at RT or we get strange back and kick sow/onwenu back to RG/RT. That should give our young qb and wr’s a decent chance to thrive in year 2.

It's ideal to have the LT (and the rest of the roster) before the QB. But beggars can't be choosers. They were picking #3 this year and they thought Maye was a QB worth hitching their wagon too. You have to do it. You can't take for granted that you'll get the chance again. You can spend years building the roster to get it "ready" for the QB, but by then you might be picking 12th and it's juuuuuuuuust too late for the guy you want. Think about how MIN and NYG reportedly liked Maye this year but couldn't swing a deal with us.

This Thread nailed it cheers "State".

I reserve the right to change my mind, but I'd rather not mess with the Sow at LG/Onwenu at RG thing. I think both of those guys have a chance to be great options at those spot. Strange, from what I've seen will never be great. Onwenu at RT is not great like he is at RG. Let Sow and Onwenu settle in at LG/RG and strong interior OL play can be a staple of the team.

I say I reserve the right to change my mind because yeah, if the OT situation is sooooooooooooo bad then maybe you have to do it. Strange has been "meh" at LG which might be more than we get out of whoever our RT is. Especially if we're playing Maye by then and want to give him some level of respectability to work with, maybe that's worth doing. But long term, I'm really hoping for Sow at LG and Onwenu at RG so we can actually have a high level position group.

The Maye stans are nervous after last night.

Yeah, this is just a break the glass in case of emergency situation. Ideally i want 2 OT’s to work out and the same interior because onwenu is much better at rg. But Imo you really cant let one position hamper the team for so many years, going on 3 years now with OT. Especially cant afford to let maye spend multiple years running for his life like we did with Mac once we screwed up the tackle situation. Our aim should be to at least field him a clean pocket by 2025.

The Patriots have to keep working out ots every week if necessary.

Re watched some of the start of the game, pray we don't actually start Vederian Lowe lol.
