Giardi: Latest on Judon - Two sides remain "far, far, far apart"

That’s loser talk, team needs a winners mentality even if they suck this year.
I agree.

The team should try very hard to win every game.

That doesn't mean that they should spend tens of millions of 2024 dollars with the expectation of winning a couple of games. If that were the case, I would ignore Jude and trade for a DT. The run defense is in trouble with Barmore out.

Spoken like every ignorant ass fan anywhere who never played sports for a living.
It is Judon who refuses to pay an agent that is acting like he never played sports for a living.

Many, many, many players play out their contract years or sign one year contracts betting that their play will be good enough to make them worth more after the current season.

He was 2nd in 2021. Forgot Watt's mega deal.

Flowers was a DE/DL. Judon is a OLB/Edge

That is exactly what I am saying. It is impossible to perform to the expectations of a contract if the player cannot play. As players get older they become more prone to soft-tissue injury and/or a degradation in production and that is why teams cut older players as they do not want to incur more risk. You pay for potential when there is a track record of performance and health.

Who are his peers? These guys? Have his peers played in all their games with better numbers?
Over the cap had him at 3rd in 2021. I initially thought it was 4th. Regardless, it’s only one year. His life of the contract doesn’t match his peers. He’s currently listed at 27th best in the NFL. Bill got him at an absolute bargain which goes unnoticed on this board.

Flowers was mentioned because he had no business getting what he got and was paid way more than what Judon ended up getting. They were comparable players when they hit FA. Posters giving the “cap goes up every year” excuse when players get overpaid didn’t apply to Judon who signed two years after Flowers. What Bill give Judon was more in line than what Flowers should’ve received.

This is why Judon is pissed right now. He has completely outplayed his contract and wants an extension making him more in line with the top rushers. I’ve already posted the numbers showing his among the best in the NFL since 2021 even with his injury.

The life of an NFL contract means nothing. Signing bonus and guaranteed $ are what matter.

Cash received from 2021-2023

Watt- 36m, 24m, 20m, = 80m
Judon- 20m, 12m, 14m= 46m
Barrett-20m, 16m, 15m = 51m
Dupree- 16m, 16m, 3m= 37m
Mack-17m, 18m, 23m = 58m
Bosa- 14m, 21m, 24m= 59m

If you want to argue he is not paid like his peers I would argue he is not a better player than most listed here.

Pay him what exactly and how would he earn it?

Check out the average cash payout for this group in 2024....and their ages and what they did in 2023.

If he'll accept an incentive-laden deal i'm supportive.

Too early to draw any comparisons with the BB era, but this is not a good start.

1. Watt and Bosa
2. Judon
3. Barret
4. Mack
5. Dupree

He was top 10 in sacks and he missed 13 games. Had he got to just 10 sacks in 2023, he'd be tied for 6th.

start?
We have tried to extend 11 players and extending all of them. How is responding to Judon's demands a start?

Other than the instant stonewalling/cckblocking of these 'negotiations' from the past regime....lets hold off on our judgement of the current situation. Yea the current regime's been around but not under this HC. Let's wait a bit with the pitchforks and fire....if we have the same thing going on a year from now, then we can cry about it....

Judon's not just any player. I think it's concerning that he took the position he took.

1. Watt and Bosa
2. Judon
3. Barret
4. Mack
5. Dupree
We differ here.

That's the point. He didn't which is the core reason why the team is taking the position it is and should.

He had For sacks in Four games played in 23: Sack masters don't grow on trees Good Defenses Need them.

I am unaware of the position by the club other than Mayo and Judon saying they had a great meeting late Wednesday or early Thursday.

Judon wants a different contract and the team has not obliged.

Sure but paying a player $14m for 3.5 games of production is a ****ty ROI.

Players have no control over Injuries.

What is your point? Teams must pay players whatever they want even though they are older and by default more at risk to injury?

Teams have control over contract terms and structure and have every right to weigh the risk of that player not being able to perform to expectations of the T&Cs.

There is a reason Judon is on a non-guaranteed deal at 32 years old and 2023 proved it to be smart business.

Von Miller had 17 sacks and another SB Ring at that age 32 what's your point??

So is paying Barmore prematurely.

Were ever he plays this season, he’ll have over 10 sacks with ease.
