Unfortunately his trade value has to be low. He’s about to be 32, coming off a long term season ending injury and has yet to prove he will produce like he did pre-injury, while simultaneously being a malcontent and wanting a huge money new contract before he will even practice, let alone play. So whoever trades for him either has to pay him just hoping he returns to form, or doesn’t pay him and hopes he shows up halfway into the year to stop his deal from tolling so he can become a fully fledged free agent next year.

In either circumstance, no team is going to pay big for that. A 5th rounder sounds right.

That’s true the injury and age will be a factor so I think it would have to be conditional in some way.

I think we got a 3rd for Moss from the Vikings?

Von Miller is 35 and can still bring it Judon is just going to be 32 a lot of thread left on the Judon tires.

Von Miller is a reasonable comp for Judon on the field. His production the last few years is not what it was when he was in his heyday. Off the field his contract has been a real problem for the Bills. Von Miller signed a 6 year , $120,000,000 contract with the Buffalo Bills, including $18,525,000 signing bonus, $51,435,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $20,000,000. If Judon is willing to accept a contract that guarantees this year, a reasonable signing bonus and incentive based future years, the team should sign him. If he is holding out for a Von Miller like contract, it is time to move on.

I'm not sure about Von Miller, but Judon still has tread on the tires.

If Judon is seeking anymore than a 3 year deal, then that's why NE could be ignoring him. That Von Miller contract was awful the day he signed it.

A trade will be contingent on a new deal with Judon. If NE could get a 4th from someone, they should take it.

agree, his value is very low with him a potential no show after the trade with out a contract
obviously, the Pats need to allow his agent to talk to other teams. if another team can sign Judon, his value does go up
why accept a 4th when the Pats can get a 3rd (comp pick)when Judon leaves in free agency?

Chase Young fetched a 3rd, contributed virtually nothing, then left the Niners after half a season.

Judon to a contender for a 4th seems more than fair to me.

The Patriots only get that third if they don't sign a correspondingly paid FA, no?

wonder if he would bite on a three year deal, with future guarantees based on games played... so if he plays in all 17 games, a certain percentage of the following years deal becomes guaranteed...

fair to him, fair to the team... so it probably wouldn't work

True. Forgot about that. This would assume he has a good season and signs a deal that qualifies for that pick.

Von Miller when he signed was not injured I guess whereas judon is coming off injury.

Now von Miller contract is poster child of what not to do. With that being said how can pats sign anything more than a 2 year contract with heavy guarantees on play time considering judon missed bukk of last year .

Judon should see what his market outside is and then negotiate . More often than not , he might get the best contract here .

No GM is going to sign Judon for anything more than a 1 year contract with ability to extend for 2nd year provided he meets certain incentives.

Maybe finally Judon came to this realization after his initial petulance.

he seems to be playing hardball for top 10-15 AAV, which is in that $20-$22m area

Those aren’t numbers I’d be offering.

I think labeling him “a malcontent” is unduly harsh. Historically he’s been an enthusiastic cheerleader for the team. His social media recruiting campaigns trying to convince free agents to come here are epic, andvthe antithesis of a so-called malcontent. His only issue is being underpaid, vocalizing his displeasure about that, and trying to get it remedied. Seems he only blew up after the team stonewalled him. Doesn’t seem he’s as much a malcontent as a passionate competitor locked in a competition for a fair rate of pay.

Yeah, it’s probably strong language but that’s how he will be viewed by other teams in trade negotiations - point I was trying to make. I personally hope things are mended and he somehow sticks on a realistic extension but since things are dragging I’m not hopeful. At least yesterday was better.
