There's No Way Schuster Makes This Team.

Hopefully so if parker went. Could even give the other team the better pick if we really hafta unload him
Well stuck in park is older and still went for a 6th.. so juju at least has a championship pedigree on his resume.. so that could yield something... I'd like to see juju put it together here.. but it feels like he's on borrowed time.. mini-camp is around the corner.. If he's not right..then I think Mayo does him a solid and trades him.

Is his money guaranteed?

If not there's only one scenario in which I see him staying... is fully healed up, no bad knee to deal with... Then he stays... He has always played better when he's "not the guy"... If he's slacking, his ass get cut... That's almost enough to wish the pats were on hard knocks this year...

if his dollars are guaranteed I can't see us eating the dollar amount unless it's miniscule... Don't care enough to look it up though
Smith-Schuster's cap hit is $12.3M in dead money if he is cut. I think he has a good chance of sticking as a veteran receiver who looked better as 2023 wore on. It was another case of Belichick's arrogance by picking up a veteran with an injury and thinking the Pats could get the most out of him coming off an injury and surgery. Smith-Schuster is an elite route runner and has great hands. If he is 90% of the 2022 version before his injury in week 14, he could be a major contributor. If he's healthy, he'll attract attention from the #1 or #2 corner.

Look, this is a good WR room without the truly elite #1 guy like a Randy Moss. There's a lot of depth here, particularly with development of Pop Douglas. And no matter what happens, the QB room is better than 2023.

Maye is a smart and capable passer when he has targets to work with like these guys. I've seen every game he's played for the past two years and in-person twice. In 2022, he had two top-tier (now NFL) running backs, an NFL-ready TE and WR. This group is very similar. those weapons with big guys on the outside, a good slot receiver and one, maybe two totally reliable TEs. There's plenty of room here for JJSS to find his role and put up decent numbers (600 yds, 50 receptions,)

The bottom line is the offensive line. It looks deeper, but who knows? Right? If Dante Scarnecchia was the OL coach, I'd be thrilled about 2024. Scott Peters is the OL coach and was a Guard-Center with the Eagles, Giants, Cardinals. A durable tough dude as a player. Let's see what he can do with these guys. If this OL can pass block, Brissette and Maye will be fine.

Looking at his contract, post June release has a dead cap hit of $2.6M and a cap savings of $7.6M.

He won’t make the team.

Correction: this is if he’s traded.

Correct, this will all boil down to whether we did enough at LT. If chuk, wallace, or Anderson isn’t the answer that should be priority in 2025. But qb and wr have been well addressed fortunately , hopefully they pan out!

Thanks for the contract info... That kind of load, he's staying it seems...

Now onto a pet peeve - not 100% directed at you... You aren't the only one to parrot one of the dumbest statements ever uttered on this site... Belichick's arrogance... ****ing hate that..

He built and maintained a dynasty spanning two decades... thru free agency... Thru immeasurable player losses... Thru the front office and coaching ranks being pillaged on a year in year out basis...

Surprise! He earned the right to be arrogant.

and now people tip that in his face like he never earned it? Maybe it's just me, but I will never understand the absolute level of disrespect shown to BB with such flippant remarks.

Agreed. Arrogance comes with success. Bill hands down is the best to ever do it. All the greats have flaws just like anyone else in life. Bill absolutely hands down should be respected! I appreciated him for 2 decades, I critiqued him like any other fan would over the years when neccessary.

In life it's often said things end how they begin. He made this organization billions. Ego's are what come from success, and can help you, and hurt you.

Was just thinking of making this thread on juju specifically.

Hard to see how he makes the team barring injury, KB, Osborn, Pop, Baker, Polk feel like locks.

The only Saving grace for him is KB may have to start on PUP to fully recover.. I could see a scenario where juju makes the team and is cut later, with an injury settlement.

There aren't very many other candidates for this type of statement that would actually prompt debate.

There's no way Thornton makes this team would probably bring %90 agreement.

I don't agree that he is definitely gone. A year off and maybe he's healed up. JuJu is only 27.

The room could use a veteran leader. I have no idea how JuJu will be with that. But if he's healthy, why not?

Also, I won't argue, he stays. I believe if the right deal comes, he's gone. I just don't know.

I don't disagree with you, but there was a big shift in his free agent approach around 2015 as Brady got on in years. The shift away from guys like Corey Dillon, Moss, Van Noy, Rodney Harrison, Welker, Amendola, Revis, Deion Branch (second go-round), etc. to cheaper players was a trend that diminished the team. The second run was fueled by top free agents wanting to come to New England to play with Brady and for Belichick.

Maybe it wasn't Belichick, entirely. The Krafts have some role in this as they stopped signing their own top free agents and watched a ton of good players walk out the door, and started bringing in lesser veterans through trades or free agency, many of whom had injury issues like Smith-Schuster. Money was clearly an issue, and by the time Brady left, there wasn't much left with which to compete.

There's really no question that Belichick's team-building diminished over time as key coaches and staff departed for bigger opportunities. The draft was spotty at best, and it's hard to name the big-name free agents who came to New England in the last few years since Gilmore.

Trading or releasing JSS will open more playing time for Polk and Javon to grow.

I bet they can get a 5th or a 6th for him when another team has a few unexpected injuries

I flashed back to 2000. No way this Michigan 6th round QB makes the team. Why carry 4 QBs? That's crazy!

I'm so old, that if the wide wide world of Web had existed in the daze of my yute, the thread title would've been There's No Way Randy Vataha Makes the Team.
You could have tried to send that in a telegram to Foxborough, but I don't think the telegraph wires ran out that far.
