DRAFT 2024 2nd Round Pick - WR Ja'Lynn Polk

They may as well have the 6 Bournes play musical chairs to see who makes the team.
Question: Who would you have taken besides Polk & Baker that was available at their respective draft slots?

An offense this bad does not need "probably should be fine" players; it needs "possibly great" players. This draft looks like the draft of a team lacking only a few decent fill-ins to avoid being a bad team. This is a formula for extended mediocrity, not for building toward excellence. I really do believe many here are still stuck in Brady hangover mode, when we could count on the best QB ever "making it work" with serviceable teammates. That's over, and we need a far more aggressive approach to team building, working toward a team which can actually compete, not a bunch of mediocrities Tom can lead and Bill can scheme for. I suspect accomplishing this will require a more tough-minded, less risk-averse group than the happy-talk, puppies-in-a-box, Oprah-ready leadership presently in place; and I further suspect than only an obvious failure by this group - of exactly the sort presently under construction - can make this clear to a team and a fan base too used to having things work out just fine. To that extent, i suppose there's a basis for optimism. Apparently we still are not bad enough that have learned what it takes to build something better.

So WR1 and a franchise LT still needed. Got it.

A franchise LT is needed, a #1 WR is nice to have, but not necessary if you have 3 #2’s. The Patriots lost to the Giants with Randy Moss, but won 3 Lombardi’s without him. And they also won their first 3 Lombardi’s without a #1. 6 Lombardi’s without a #1 is strong evidence that they aren’t necessary, but you have to have a great QB and a good receiving corps to pull it off. That said I would still love to see them get one.

In fairness, that was in a different offense.

Gimme a blue chip OT and take a diff qb rd 2.

This was stupid.

With any luck, our OL is bad enough that we don't win more than 5 games next year, and Wolf can try again next year with a new set of top-5 picks.

O, we'll need another qb next year, whoever plays behind this OL is going to be ruined.

Carr, comes to mind. The older one who got shell shocked.

Agree completely. Maye was a total bust. They haven’t won so much as single game since they drafted him. What a loser, total waste of a pick.

In fairness, that was in a different offense.

Mahomes lost his #1WR and won the next 2 Super Bowls. This is pretty common among Super Biwl winners, and there’s a long list of HOF WR’s who never got a ring. As I said I would love to have one, but it’s not a requirement to win rings.

That's great, if you have Pat Mahomes or Tom Brady at QB.

The Chargers are a franchise that seems to draft elite receivers….they make an effortless trade up to grab McConkey.

The Pats are a wasteland of early WR picks and make a mild reach in the 2nd for Polk.

I don’t know who is going to end up the best WR of the 2, but if I was a betting man…….

Oh…and all the people on here comparing Polk to Jacoby Myers and are happy on that comparison…..you have a very low bar for a high 2nd round pick.

I hope Polk works out…we will know soon enough.

I'm willing to wager that Polk and Baker end up being better than Aaron dobson, Josh Boyce, TT, NKeal Harry, etc.

So, we're just supposed to not have any opinions other than NEW SHINY THING IS GOOD? Come on We're all adults here able to form our own opinions. We don't have to be cheerleaders. We're not paid to be relentlessly positive. We can have our own opinions and traits we value, right?
Slow wr's who struggle to seperate rarely translate well to the NFL.

Don't be ridiculous.
Maybe we could, you know, late him take the fekkin' field first before we get fekkin' pissed off.

Yeah I’m warming up a little on the Polk pick with all the talk that Mitchell is nuts.
One of the coaches here now was on staff last year at Washington, so familiarity is no doubt a big factor. I am good with Polk, wanted Mitchell too, but I am willing to let the guy play at least a couple pre-season games before I start flipping tables over and saying how much this regime sucks because they took guys that play positions desperately needing to be filled.

Not familiar with Mitchell's issues. anyone have a link?

Maybe the Mitchell stuff is overblown but with a rookie quarterback and rookie head coach building a solid locker room and fostering a team culture is more important than ever so I am happy we passed on him the more I read about his personality.

One pre-draft report cited that Mitchell, a Type 1 diabetic, didn’t manage his condition well and that could be the cause of friction. “When his blood sugar’s off, he’s rude, he’s abrasive, he doesn’t pay attention in meetings. It’s why you get really, really ****ty character reports coming out of Georgia and Texas. But when his stuff is normal, and they get him normal by lunch time, he’s out at practice high energy, best practice player, loves football.”

Seems like an odd reason to turn into a dipshit. Even if that whole thing is legit then be an adult and manage your condition better.

I’ve known a couple diabetics that get douchey when sugar gets low.

Crap, I hate this pick. Two round reach and he's a slow contested catch specialist (i.e. N'Keal Harry)

He's not slow. He's not a burner, but he's not slow. He's a terrific WR and will do well in the NFL.

Plus, adding Baker, who is a true home run threat despite not having world-class speed (huge number of gigantic plays), the Pats did well in addressing WR.
