DRAFT 2024 2nd Round Pick - WR Ja'Lynn Polk

The *****ing ridiculous.

Fans: we need a WR.
Pats pick a receiver in R2.
Fans: NO NOT THAT GUY.

So, we're just supposed to not have any opinions other than NEW SHINY THING IS GOOD? Come on We're all adults here able to form our own opinions. We don't have to be cheerleaders. We're not paid to be relentlessly positive. We can have our own opinions and traits we value, right?

Hes a guy who claims to live breathe and eat the game. You really can't hate bringing a dude in like that.
Who was that awful 2nd round safety "with a high football iq" and maybe 5.0 40 time that cost us the SB when BB benched butler?

Yeah, he'd like a word.

What...?

Also let's be real, every single player in the draft is a development project. Dunno why this is a special label for a select few. The far more rare label, and therefore the one that should be stated as it is an exception to the rule, are day-one players.

It's a silly, featherweight comment. It has no meaning anymore.
Gimme a blue chip OT and take a diff qb rd 2.

This was stupid.

With any luck, our OL is bad enough that we don't win more than 5 games next year, and Wolf can try again next year with a new set of top-5 picks.

O, we'll need another qb next year, whoever plays behind this OL is going to be ruined.

Carr, comes to mind. The older one who got shell shocked.

Absolutely, not every pick/player is good. That, we know. I totally understand some of the pushback. However, it becomes an issue when they ***** about every single pick/ acquisition, when most times they don’t even have a clue about the player. We don’t have to celebrate/over romanticize every player, but damn…

The Chargers are a franchise that seems to draft elite receivers….they make an effortless trade up to grab McConkey.

The Pats are a wasteland of early WR picks and make a mild reach in the 2nd for Polk.

I don’t know who is going to end up the best WR of the 2, but if I was a betting man…….

Oh…and all the people on here comparing Polk to Jacoby Myers and are happy on that comparison…..you have a very low bar for a high 2nd round pick.

I hope Polk works out…we will know soon enough.

Seems like a solid wr, something the patriots lack. Not flashy
I was about to post here that Bourne and DDoug have been fairly solid when they were healthy, as it was telling that DD was the guy getting doubled when Bourne was out.

The best teams have about 450 receptions per year. With a combination of Bourne, DDoug, Osborn, Polk, Henry, Gibson, and Rham, that's a pretty solid group that can get there with good QB and OL play. The wild cards are TT11 and Reagor, as they can get open but are almost out of chances with drops. If they make the jump, this group could... (hmmm... I'm sober... not high... so delusionally optimistic) surprise this year, similar to the army of WR2-2.5's the Pats have had in their SB winning years.

Side note: Osborn's had some very solid separation numbers the last 2 years (3.4, 3.3). I think people have really been sleeping on this guy:

Another underrated aspect of this pick is that we actually have a talented young quarterback to go along with our new receiver(s). That’ll make a big difference as well; whenever he gets to play.

Many mock drafts project Polk somewhere between 2-3 round. Is it a reach to take him at 37?
Some say he is a real sleeper amongst WR and his stats would be definitely better if not Odunze and McMillan as his teammates and targets for Penix.

It wasn't only a 2nd round pick even, but the #34 pick in the draft.

They needed to do better there.

Just from the highlights iirc I only saw 1 end around, 1 wr screen, 1 over mid-depth middle; 0 slants; and ALL the rest 20-30 catches were deep periphery catches.

When people throw around term #1 (which I dislike); I generally think it’s that deep periphery skill set they ‚really’ talking about.

I’m hoping he’s more that ‚all-around‘ receiver the analysis guys were sayin;
…. but from the highlight reel I just didn’t see a lot of catching touch passes, screens short-range stuff or even seam routes that would show that all-around

But kindof not getting the he is not a #1 complaint.
Robert Woods is another decent comp I think. Add some muscle to Polk and and I could see him in reduced sets blocking with the big boys. He's a silky mover that doesn't look like he's exerting much effort. I think he'll be a very good player for us.

Your endorsement makes me feel better.

But I need to know: how did you feel about Thornton, Harry?
I had a high 2nd on Harry but would have went Deebo or even Butler at that point. I had Butler, Deebo, Harry and Brown as my 1 2 3 4 all graded similar.
I would have taken a bullet before picking TT where we did. I had a 4th on him.

Baker baby!!!

Make the team first, kid.

I think we could have done FAR better with this pick. Why pick a WR who is by every empirical measure clearly mediocre at best when your obvious first need is an OT and there were clearly better options available anyway at WR? This is the sort of play-safe crap you get when you hire a bunch of sweet-talking "collaborators" rather than hard-headed football evaluators. Then, by the time they got around to picking an OT, they picked a RIGHT tackle rather than the left tackle they clearly need.

I am content with the Maye pick (with fingers crossed), but beyond that the draft to this point screams Bust.
I felt it was a little like Atlanta's front office. Free agency and June cuts are for roster holes and complementary players; you gatta draft talent first in the draft. This team needs more blue-chip talent; we are not just two or three players away.
