Player Signing Pats re-sign Hunter Henry

In my plan we sign DHunter as a younger version of Judon and THEN trade Judon for a 2nd day pick. We get a Judon quality rush threat who is younger and not coming off a season ending injury, plus more cap space to almost pay for the Hunter signing (though I imagine Hunter will have a bigger AV.).

I can also see the value of keeping Matt and not signing Uche but rather Jennings for less but still sign Hunter. Now we have TWO plus rushers to go along with White and Barmore.

Regardless of which plan you go with the key to me is signing Hunter. HE, not Ridley, is my #1 target in this FA class. Ridley is a luxury item.
Hunter would be a great add. So would Wilkins - pressure up the middle, baby!

Good observations, Ken.

Also, notice the safety market suddenly? There are like nine sub-40 and productive WRs coming in this year's class. I wonder how long it will take to saturate that position.
Each year colleges produce 15-20 NFL quality ATHLETES who can play WR. It is the position that regularly has the most depth each year, though of course some years (like this one) are better than others, but there are guys like Douglas who can be found on EVERY day of the draft. That doesn't mean all 15-20 guys become quality NFL WR's. But the fact remains there are always plenty of guys who have the requisite athletic skills to be one.

THAT is the reason why I'm always loathe to draft a WR that high. Just look at our own draft success (or lack thereof) If you are lucky (or good), you can fill a WR room.

I have mixed feelings on Ridley. Now that Evans if off the table, he is my top choice among the WR's if talent were the only determinate. But is he going to be in it for the long haul. One COULD say that he "quit" on the Falcons when he walked away from the team a few years ago. Also is HE the guy you want to overpay (and overpay some team will) on a rebuilding team.

I wouldn't dislike the signing if we WERE able to nab him, but I'm thinking maybe it would be wiser to wait a year. Next year's FA WR class is supposed to be deep and awesome. Now our Rookie QB will be a year into the system and more ready to support elite WR's
I think the better plan is to focus on TE signings this year (Henry is back, so a solid TE2), sign a RB (strong market) and otherwise just strive to have a "decent" WR group between free agency and the draft. Worry more about the OL this year. Then next year, put a larger focus on WR. Can't fix everything all at once, assuming you are taking the QB at #3. If you trade down, you can probably get a WR1 and plug most other holes, but you will not have more than a stopgap at QB.

I would have went after Ridley instead with Henry's offer included I'm meh about this deal.
Apples and oranges in my opinion. TEs and WRs are completely different markets.

I’m certain Wolf and Co. will address the WR situation starting next week.

While on the subject of Hunter Henry (and any TE for that matter) I pose this question: How can Gronk, at 6'6 and 265 be such a beast as a blocker, and Henry listed at 6'5 and 258, not be a consistently good to very good blocker? Is it due to upper/core/lower weight placement and/or strength? Is it lack of coaching during his career? Or is it just that he and other such TE's don't strive to be the "Complete Package"? I know that arm length and hand size and other factors come into play. I'm just throwing this out here to see what some of you have to say on why some ever so rare TE's are the complete package, why some are solid receivers but don't excel at blocking, and why some excel at blocking but aren't good receivers? Discuss.
I don’t put stock into listed height/weight. Gronk was a HUGE TE…noticeably bigger than HH. Gronk was like an extra OT when blocking off the line.

Having said that, I agree that HH should be better at blocking than he is. He’s bigger than most “pass catching” TEs.

Guess this means Mac Jones is back and will have a chance to compete for the starting job... Henry was one of Mac Jones' few supporters in the locker room
This is an insane conclusion to jump to lol

I'll buy that for Ridley. The guy is super quick on his breaks. I've never seen much from Brown, to be honest.
He's petty much a 1st down each time he touches the ball. Here's his stats.

Exactly, the real Wozzy would.
JK, just cracking on the glowing nature of the original post
I’m positive about positive moves and negative about poor moves. Objectivity…. it throws people off here.

? What? The terms are known. What Rapoport posted is likely fed to him by the agent, which is usually inflated to favor the player. Whatever the real terms are, they’re almost always less. So I really see no way that we can think Henry got more than $9M AAV.
We’ll see when the details come out. You never get the details on the initial announcement.

Have you seen any patriots WRs.. I'd love to hear your take on them
The Ravens got rid of him. Why?

But, Hollywood will be great in NE just like all the other cast off retread WRs. Lets sign up OBJ? Ya know, the same guy who disappeared in the playoffs vs KC. Who else you got? Mike Thomas from New Orleans?

Pats need a legit beast WR.

Corned beef or high dollar ham from Spain. The good stuff.

I agree. Roll over 30 million of thisvyears cap to next year and use it for higgins or aiyuk

Why would you say this? Because he averages over 10 yards per catch? Most receivers do that. He actually has 313 career catches and 165 first downs.

All those WRS you just mentioned are better than anyone masquerading at WR for NE..

Can you read? I did just put up his stat line. Your problem is with ESPN not me.

It's laughable to me that some other posters on here act like Brady and Bill are still here and good WRs aren't good enough.. did these guys see how bad our WRs were.. last season.. 32nd offensively 32!! This guys are just comedy I'll say! LoL

Love this signing. I like HH way better than most in here. Great guy, and an excellent talent who'd have been a household name if he'd played with TB12.
