Mayfield is an average starter…at best. Do you want the most important position in professional sports to be average for the Patriots?
Average to above average is a big step in the right direction.

No
He is only above average if you get him two great WR , with our supporting cast he would be a waste of money
Draft a qb

Slightly OT:

You can win with any of the top 15 QBs. If you’re waiting for Brady or Mahomes, good luck.

Chasing lightning in a bottle doesn’t preclude trying to win without it. And the Pats have the ammunition to put quality takent around him.

games but no bowls, the last years are evidence of it

I think it’s anti productive to spend $30 m per yr on a QB that’s not going to be your starter year 2. That $ should be spent on other players. I’m not interested in finishing 8-9 in 2024 while our rookie QB sits. I want another high draft pick for the 2025 draft. Flacco would be better at $2.5 for one year, he’s played for AVP and has more knowledge to bestow upon the rookie.

Allegedly..

If you get a QB better than that $30 million guy, it's a GOOD problem to have. A trade relieves you of the issue and teams are always looking for QBs for on reason or another.

And if you don't hit on the pick, you're back where you started three years from now. Here's the thing, while the game has changed (it has), what's changed more is that audience. We're in an ADD society now - look how quick things like Game of Thrones simply disappeared from the US consciousness. Look at how quickly people here turned on BB, on Brady, now on Kraft.

Kraft needs to put a competitive team on the field or he's going to watch the value of the Pats circle and drown. They can't do a RedSoxian rebuild. There's a good core there, and money to bring in talent.

How many QBs in this draft, do you think, will become better in the next three years tan Mayfield is right now? I will be surprised if it's any, shocked if it's two, and stunned if it's more than two.

Yup. One or two out of the top four is likely to be better than Mayfield. Also, we have at best a 50% chance of getting one of those one or two QB's.

Originally, I said that I didn't want to pay $35M for Mayfield. Now, I'm not so sure. We'd be competing for the playoffs in 2024 and 2025. If we can upgrade in 2026, we'd be competitive with the new QB in 2026 and 2027. Let's be real! I haven't been thinking that there was much of a possibility of being a playoff contender almost every year, starting in 2024.

The history of the Super Bowl has a lot of mediocre to bad QBs. Even the last 25 years:

Hurts, Foles, Goff, Cam Newton, Kaepernick, Flacco, Eli, Grossman, Hasselbeck, Garoppolo, Delhomme, Brad Johnson, Collins, Dilfer, Chandler, O'Donnell.

Granted only 6 of them won.

Average to above average is a big step in the right direction.
And you’re also immediately grossly over paying this QB. Compared to being able to get a rookie QB for far cheaper.

That's fair. Comes down to what you would pay him. Is 27-30 mil a year an over pay. I think jared Goff is at 33 mil and I think in Detroit Baker is better than Goff
