Somewhat OT: Jakobi Meyers says he didn't feel respect playing here

I figured it was a derisive/sarcastic mode of some sort, just wanted a user to explain since it appears generationally specific. My guess: it's related to texting but could be mistaken for dyslexia. My judgment: those who use it are snarky dinks. (I was an English major too, BTW; my saving grace was minoring in journalism.)
LOL. My saving grace was minoring in philosophy, which in the end was what I enjoyed teaching most.

Your guess as to what it means is correct. It’s an internet/texting form of using sarcasm without having to specifically clarify that it’s sarcasm.

Because it's over $1M total (which we don't know) as I mentioned in my initial post. But he clearly didn't like it in NE so he's using that as a cop out.
Still waiting for something that makes Meyers look bad....

I am sure if you didn't like your job, and someplace better offered you more money, then you would stay in your current position, right? Right?? Hello.....?!?!?

It is what it is but I look at it and think we if we snag the #1 receiver in the draft you could have had a #1/Meyers/Douglas.

That would settle the receiver position entirely. Instead of just needing the #1 we now need to double dip for two starting receivers including a star player to go along with Douglas.

Meyers would’ve been a perfect second or third guy. If we have shown a capacity to draft receivers it wouldn’t bug me as much, but that’s yet to be seen with the new regime.
I prefer Bourne to Meyers.

The 2023 Patriots offense sucked because Mac sucked and their offensive line couldn’t stay healthy.

It wasn’t because Meyers is supposedly better than Juju… good grief.

Yes we are not good at drafting WRs, but Myers as a #2 = mediocrity for ever. We need dynamic playmakers at WR, Myers will never be that. The threat of a big play that could swing the game backs up and spreads out the opposing D. Recently we have seen what happens with 8 or 9 guys in the box. Never win anything. We have to let go of guys like Myers and hope we draft better.

No whining here, just pointing out that you started this thread in an inflammatory manner, using an out-of-context quote...then turned around and started slagging on "Team Bill" (itself a slag).

Is that how you want it to be around here? Everything through that antagonistic prism? Brady's retired, BB is gone, and the team's got a tough climb in front of it.

So let's just view everything through the snarl of TB v BB. Wafreakinghoo.
So then stop visiting the forum. I don't know what to tell you. Bill did a lot of stupid things his last few years here that are going to affect the team for the next couple years so you can't be surprised when people talk about them less than a month after he got canned. There's only so many times we can discuss "Should we take MHJ at 3 and trade for Fields?" or "Do we take a QB at 3 and trade back into the first for a tackle?". The pro Bill crowd seems fine with reminiscing about all the great things Bill did here but then turn around and whine if any discussion starts that highlights Bill's recent shortcomings.

Gotta disagree on this one I think. For what Meyers lacks in explosiveness he has in reliability, hands and route running. You don’t need much more than that for any third receiver especially if you’ve already got two play makers in a hypothetical #1 and Demario Douglas.

How many teams have three explosive receivers in hand? Not many I’d wager and none of the final four teams this season. Meyers would be one of the best third receivers in the entire league.

Some people seem to think you need to have three super athletic outside receivers on every team. Ideally you have one athletic alpha dog outside guy, a 50/50 deep ball guy, and an inside slot guy who runs good routes to get open. Jakobi is the last one and he did that well here and produced in some very bad offenses. But of course to the usual suspects since he isn't a Patriot anymore then he isn't (and wasn't) any good.

I’m racking my brain about the other teams and genuinely thinking what other teams have a third receiver who would be better than Meyers. If someone can think of a team or several I’d be fine with being wrong.

I think if we hit on a #1 in this draft, see Douglas improve as we expect and had Meyers that gives us a top 10 WR group in the league and arguably top 5 depending on how good said #1 is.

It’s water under the bridge but still worth thinking about what could’ve been given the thread. Instead we have Pop Douglas and two very mediocre and overpaid #4 wide receivers. Smh

Just a disclaimer: if the #1 receiver and Douglas work out and Bourne recovers from the ACL and plays at his best form we can still have a very good receiving group but that’s more doubtful given the injury. I don’t think either Douglas or Bourne are particularly great route runners though. Room to improve for DD of course

Yeah, no.
You want to grouse and whine, go to. Just seems like a miserable way to spend "fandom" on entertainment.

I know PatsFans loves Myers. How many teams have a receiver more explosive than Myers as #3? Lots. Steady 4 to 6 yard receptions with few YAC will not win many games. I like Myers too, but without TB12 I think posters have to recognize the need for more dynamic receiving and TE play.

Well I will be a fan the way I want to be and you can be a fan the way you want to be.

You say that but which teams? Not saying I’m for sure correct. But which ‘lots of’ teams have a #3 who, if necessary, can efficiently put up 70/800/8 TD with good hands and very good route running?

That’s not a PatsFans bias, that’s just calling it for what it is. Meyers is a good receiver, not great. Literally no one has suggested he is some elite talent but he’s pretty fricking good for a third receiver.

You don't need an entire wide receiver room full of "explosive" receivers. You need an explosive receiver or two but you need a guy who gets open on 3rd and 5 and that is what Jakobi is. The guy has been remarkably consistent whether it is Cam Newton, Bailey Zappe, or Mac Jones throwing him the ball. Is Jakobi a number one guy? No of course not but he is one of the best 3rd options in the league and we let him walk over peanuts.

Complaining about sports is as American as apple pie. Everyone from the owner down is a potential target. Especially if your team is on a 4 year downward spiral and looking like one of the worst teams ever.

But @Steve102 is right. This whole Myers thing is a nothing burger.

Good move. You could say one of my bigger demises was majoring in journalism.

It's not like a state not having income tax means they give that money up. Other taxes are just higher. It all works out in the end.
States without income taxes make it up on service fees (and lack of service...quality schools and the like). Flat service fees and sales taxes take a much bigger % bite out of the lower end of the economic ladder, of course.

Income tax, particularly a progressive income tax, is what hits wealthy people much harder.
