Bill Belichick Press Conference 7:30am (1/8/24)

Bill relinquishing his GM duties is one thing but I think that there so much other problem.

I think the offensive system is outdated and too complicated and is not tailored to modern NFL QB. I think it has been proven by now that only Tom Brady could run this system.

This system ask too much of the QB pre snap and modern NFL QBs now are more athlete. We need to allow the QB to play faster and not having to think at everything during 40s before the ball is snap.

Not by themselves. As demonstrated by an excellent defensive team with a 4-13 record.
I wish more would understand. When his staff was good the team was good. **** staff, **** performances.. what can we really expect when staffers are getting paid minimum wage in the NFL!! Your only as good as the people around you.

I wonder if Kraft can simply take his GM power away any time from a contractual standpoint.

Maybe the sticking point here is that Kraft can do this, but Bill would prefer not to but can’t control it. So he’s open to working elsewhere where they’d give him GM powers, but not just any old place. So this maneuvering says “We are open to keeping Bill in a reduced role, but if you might want him, feel free to give us a call.” Other teams might call with offers for him with GM powers included that he could consider and that Kraft could also weigh the value of the compensation and then they could ultimately decide as a pair which one to go with after a few days.

Or, possibly he simply just doesn’t want to leave and will do whatever Kraft wants. Hard to say.
How would that work if that's done against Bill will? Or if he doesn't agree with GM's personnel moves? As coach he can just underutilize or torpedo the GM's players.

You engage and bring up the topic you say you don’t want to engage about when the discussion was about something else, because you don’t want engage?

Quick. You're gonna miss your meeting.

Agreed, Bill is a master of manipulation. Either he stays and is all in on getting some real players on offense. Altering his philosophy or just leaving all together and the organization moving ahead.

"Bill, would you be surprised if you are fired?"

Brillant questions

Interesting. If he was willing to give up gm duties that would be a dream come true. I love Belichick the coach, the team benefits big time if he stays. However, I doubt he has it in him to to stand by and watch the owner and say a new GM, even if it were Dimotroff who he knows, come in and clean house? We know the defensive staff is up to snuff and could all keep their jobs. Anyone think he would be ok with the org letting go of Troy, Brown, Bob, Judge and a majority of the scouting staff? I’ll believe it when I see it.

You see the GM's scope of responsibility to include the coaching staff that reports to the HC?

So if Atlanta offers a #2 draft pick for him, would you take it?

Whomever said this is going to be like Game of Thrones appears to be spot on after this press conference.

If Belichick relinquishes his GM duties without relinquishing final say, it does nothing. If they put a Belichick disciple at GM, it probably does nothing to address the problem because they are going to give Belichick what he wants anyway. I don't see Belichick going for Kraft picking his own GM outside of the organization. So we are exactly where were were at 7:29 AM.

Apparently he did it last year too but when he said he's under contract and he will continue to reconstruct the team that was a clear indication to me that he doesn't intend to help Kraft make the decision.

Kraft is gonna have to fire him if he wants changes is what that was all about.

Last year he was on thin ice too. So it would make sense for him to do it. I wonder if he ever did it when his job was completely secure. I am guessing not. Granted I tend to doubt you would have such a press conference the day after the Super Bowl or AFCCG which is where the Patriots' season ended for much of Belichick's tenure.

Unless he changed it last year I would be shocked if his contract did not contain a clause stating that taking his GM power away is cause to terminate the contract.

As long as Bill the GM is gone I’m fine with Bill the coach staying for 1 more year.

They were not excellent though. They just gave up 180 rushing yards to 1 RB on 37 carries (I.e. everyone knew they were running).

They got spanked by every good offense.

Nothing matters til they get to the table agendas, egos and plans are laid out,
Then we will see what is what.

If he's fired, what happens to the last couple of years @ $25M?
