Bill Belichick’s uncertain future looms over the NFL

It's not his personality to go to a place like LA. He'd be a horrible fit. Especially at this stage, the media wouldn't tolerate the mumbling or disrespect.

He'd also have zero control with them already having a GM in Tom Telesco.

I think Bill caves and gives up GM duties if Kraft asks for it to stay.

I can see Kraft trying to strip Belichick of his GM duties, but it would be a move to allow Belichick to leave on his own terms thinking he would never agree to it. If Belichick accepts it, Kraft may fire him.

There is no point another GM to start to build a team for Belichick’s system just to scrap everything two years later to fit a new head coach’s system.

Either you move on from Belichick or you keep the status quo. Anything in between is a disaster in a making.

Question is let’s say it’s Wolf and or Groh in tandem do they have the confidence and balls
To ignore Bills player suggestions?
Also would Bill respect them enough for that kind of shift in power?

We are going to be five years post Brady and we are trending towards being the worst team in the league and not a legitimate contender. We are five weeks into the season and the season is pretty much over.

The “best football mind in America” decided to go into this season with next to no offensive talent and wanted to rely on the defense to win games where they constantly hold teams under 20 points in an offensive focused league. Belichick is the greatest coach of all time IMHO, but he seems to committed to run the team the way he always has even if it means years of mediocrity.

The Patriots were a playoff team in 2020. Missed the playoffs last year. And are now in contention for Caleb Williams this year. Kraft is over 80. He isn’t going to stick with a head coach stuck in 2003 no matter what he did in the past
Building a team is not linear.
Ability is ability. Every team struggles. Getting rid of coaching/organization talent doesn’t make the struggle lesser, it makes it harder to come out of.

I understand people who are bitter want someone to be punished. It’s short sighted.

Sorry to pick a nit here, but we're currently only 3.3 seasons post Brady, fyi.

"Best foot all mind in America" is probably Andy Reid now

BB is a smart guy. He can read the handwriting on the wall and knows his time is about up here. He would probbaly even admit that his performance over the past 4 years has not been good.
I can guarantee you he is already thinking about his next opportunity. He knows this team will likely finish under .500 and that despite Kraft's loyalty...Kraft will have to make a move.

I think BB is motivated to pass Shula on all time win list, because of the nasty things Shula said about Bill. If Shula had not badmouthed Bill, I think BB would have retired already. Some team will make a sweetheart offer to Bill...because he is a huge name. He will take the offer and stay with new team until he passes Shula.

Bill has Groh now as an assistant, do we know if Bill still has final say? There's no way Kraft announces, even if it happened that Bill is not GM anymore. That's something that would happen behind the scene and for all we know could have already happened.
Bill Groh is a long-time friend and associate of Bill's, and I have seen no evidence he is particularly good at the job over his time in the job, given the dismal drafting/trade/free agent signing record under management by him and Bill working in tandem. I think we need a fresh start with a new GM with no allegiance to Bill or to his "philosophy." The new GM, if Bill remains HC, would certainly be well-advised to get Bill's views but must feel entirely free to disagree and set those views aside as needed, given Bill's lousy record of late in matters relating to drafting, trades, etc. Groh is not likely to be that man, given his history. I would bear in mind at every point in the process that we are not "fixing things": we are starting over, as we must, given that we are by any number of empirical measures the worst team in the league..

His teams were mediocre and a non threat until he was pushed by Brett Veach to draft Mahomes.

You build a team with players that have skill sets for your system. The Pats have totally different linemen on both sides of the ball than a lot of teams because of their system. The Patriots go for larger stronger linemen while many other teams go for smaller, faster linemen.

The Patriots offense requires receivers to be able to read defenses and make route adjustments based on that. And you can be the fastest receiver with fly paper type hands and if you cannot read the defense, you won’t succeed in the Patriots offense.

And I am not bitter. I said before the season all I wanted to see is growth of this team towards being a contender in the next few years. Otherwise, it was time to make a change. It is year four post Brady and not only are we nowhere close to being a contender again, we might be the farthest away from being a contender since the pre-Parcells 90s.

I am talking about after this year. We will be going into year five. We are talking about plans after this year. This is year four post Brady.

Wasn't Groh praised here for the last couple years of drat picks?

Not that I recall, and the drafts haven't been very good since he's been on board. I think there was hope when it was announced that he would play a role, but I don't recall any commentary to the effect that he has had any very great positive influence. I might be wrong, of course, because I don't read everything. I guess I haven't seen anything that would suggest to me he's part of the solution. Again, I could be wrong, often am, lol.

All I know is if Bill is fired and leaves for another team, then we better not see a single thread about him in the main board after all the whining Belicheck fans did with the mention of Brady

Apparently BB gets other opinions and is not surrounded by yes man as everyone believes. Maybe if he wasn't influenced by others we'd have Jakobi this year. Fact is none of us knows the inner workings of the team even though some people talk like they have it all figured out.

Which is a good reason not to fire him. We will look as dumb as the Chargers firing Marty Schottenheimer.
Marty was 14-2 when he was fired by Chargers president Spanos. It is impossible for Bill to reach 14 wins this season, even with an extra game.

Yet he went to 4 NFCCG and made the playoffs with Alex Smith
What has BB done without TB1e

Alex was the epitome of a system QB. Couldn’t throw the ball more than seven yards. I think he went an entire season without a TD pass to a receiver.

It is possible to build around a very limited QB but very difficult. Reid has always been on another level in terms of schemes and gameplanning.
