I wonder if it was more about Meyers being one of the malcontents last year than the talent difference.

Let's not forget bill also wanted to replace Bourne if we signed Hopkins instead of parker.

Meyers was gone because of him being one of the malcontents.

IMO, the misevaluation of Shuster is a separate issue entirely.

But even then. Letting go of Meyers because he wasn't happy he was given garbage as coaches is malpractice in itself.

The lateral was a boneheaded decision. But otherwise he's been a solid receiver.

If you have a young receiver who knows your offense is a 3rd down machine and can be had for reasonable money you do not let them go because they weren't happy the GM refused to hire a real OC
