No Point in Tanking, the Future is Bleak

Which is why there's almost never any turnover in playoff teams from year to year. . . .
This. This is what needs to be drilled into the head of the BB haters. Its HARD to build a playoff roster. There is a lot of luck involved and once you dont have that top 10 QB it become a nightmare. Changing coaches isnt going to do a damn thing.

Bleak. Might as well just pick a new team to root for.

Regarding tanking, you guys can forget about that. It's not in Bill's blood. Even if the misery continues, he will find a way to get 4-6 more wins. So you'll have that much more to ***** at on how much you hate him.

Looking waaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead to draft talk, Quinn Ewers, JJ McCarthy, Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye all warrant more research and Saturday game watching. I look forward to BGC breaking them down.
I know absolutely nothing about college football but a week or two ago some guy sat next to me at a bar in NH and we talked briefly about football. He said he wasn't really a fan but when we started talking about Brady he got a little excited and then told me to remember the name JJ McCarthy. The guy was gone in a flash but the name stuck with me. That post is the first time I've seen the name here.

I've tried in the past to keep up with BGC and the draft gang but I know so little about the players that it's overwhelming. Maybe I'll give it another shot and start watching some college ball, but just watching can also be overwhelming. There are soooooooo many teams.

I would cosign the trade back from 1, as long as they stay top 10. The gain would be far too lucrative to not take advantage of that.
Because the draft is a crap shoot I like more choices. I think Bill feels the same way.

That's a catch 22. The Pats coach is the one doing the roster building so that makes him very important.

I have hunted twice in Texas the last couple years, and this summer my wife and I went to visit, so I am all in on Texas, A&M, and TCU. If they are on TV I will watch. I have already watched more college football this year than I have in many years. I am not really watching it from a coaching or scouting point of view, more for entertainment.

Even when they do nab a stud early they send him packing within a few years because they don't want to pay them and want to go bargain basement garbage.... Belichick is the reason for that ... big talent not named Brady rarely lasts in New England
Seymour, Mayo, Warren all spent at least 8 years with the Patriots. Seymour signed 3 contracts here.

I don’t think we need to anything to tank. Just keep doing what we're doing and we will accomplish what we would have had we deliberately tried not to win.

I agree that one player isn't going to solve all of our problems. We are lacking talent throughout our roster. I personally would prioritize addressing the O-line and try to find a true #1 receiver. We could also use a third down/change of pace running back.

I would also look for a QB in the mid rounds of the draft and sign a decent veteran back up. I would make it clear to Mac that next summers training camp is an open competition for the starting QB job.

The defense has some talent but could use more impact players.

Lastly, Mr. Kraft has a decision to make in regards to how the team makes decisions in regards to player personnel. Does he still let BB have final say or make the process more collaborative?

tanking doesnt work in the NFL. this isnt the NBA where one star can change your whole franchise.

its a team sport. so if you are bad enough to tank for a top QB. that means your roster is going to be absolute garbage around them and probably ruin them. unfortunately that is where we currently are imo.

chiefs/packers did it the right ways imo. built a solid roster, were competing with alex smith. but never stopped looking for the next guy. then you were able to throw mahomes into a good situation.

chiefs didnt give mahomes garbage and say "make it work" colts are an example of a team who did and andrew luck retired because of it
Most of the time I would agree with this take but as it pertains to this Patriots team, I disagree. There’s a lot of strong to very good talent on this ball club.

Offense:

-Rham (He looks off but I still attribute a lot of his early season struggles on the OL)
-Henry
-Douglas (Young but definitely has the looks of a keeper)
-Bourne
-Onwenu (If he can get and stay healthy)

Defense:
-Judon
-White
-Bentley (I know many of us don’t appreciate the old thumper mold as a starter but he is a good one)
-Gonzales
-Jack Jones
-Jonathan Jones
-Dugger
-Peppers
-JC Jackson (I have faith he will return to form)

I know I’m missing obvious guys or others that are debatable. Regardless of what the record says, this isn’t your classic 4 and below winning team. There are some strong players here. Pick the top 5 in every rd. and wisely use the cap over the next few years to extend the right guys and bring in some new and that’s a huge difference in talent vs picking 15-20 every year.

Now, the real auestion is whether or not we have got the right guy picking and signing the players? Yes, he’s brought in everyone I mentioned. But, there’s been some big ****ing whiffs as of late.

I want to draft 2 new qb’s. Premium pick and mid-late rd flyer. Strong arms with an assassination style of play. See what you’ve got in Corral and roll with that. Get rid of Mac (they broke him, he needs a fresh start) and Zappe needs to go. Get what you can for the 2. Reset the offense. The talent either doesnt match the scheme or there is a lack of talent. Go balls to the walls in rebuilding your OL and WR rooms. Resign Onwenu, try Strange at Center, and get rid of Big Trent. He’s been an absolute waste of space. Hope all those picks you’ve made the last few yrs develop as well.

I’m hoping that we basically lose out and draft Maye. I’ve seen him mocked between #2-5. I don’t watch much college football, I like what I’ve read about him and the highlights I’ve seen. I’m tired of Mac’s weak arm. I want to see a big, strong qb that can move with a strong arm.

We have some good young players as Holyredeemer pointed out. We also have a ton of money to spend. So the rebuild shouldn’t take long depending on the QB.

Corral is no longer on the team. But agree that Jones and Zappe need to go.

If we are there at the top of the draft just make the pick, I can deal with the pain of a busted pick, the pain of passing on a franchise QB thought is a different story.

The Bengals changed their franchise with one good draft picking the right QB, and Burrow wasnt Andrew Luck or Lawrence level of confidence from the analysts. But worked out.

Take the player and if it doesn't work out move on, we aren't wasting a lot of time with Mac for example.

This is why the team needs to drop Belichick before the draft arrives because you,I and everyone knows Bill will do his dumbass bad GM move thinking he still has Brady and trade the top pick for 15 picks in the last 3 rounds to grab the cheap scrubs that will catch the noodle arm passes from our current quarterbacks

I also hope that he doesn't **** up another trade deadline opportunity like he did 3 years earlier.

-Rham - Regressing
-Henry - Good player
-Douglas - Would love to see more of but that doesn't look like it will happen soon. Hard to make a verdict on.
-Bourne - JAG
-Onwenu - Regressing

Defense:
-Judon - Injured and likely done as a Patriot. No idea why he isn't on IR and is taking up a roster spot.
-White - Same as Douglas.
-Bentley - JAG
-Gonzales - Potential stud
-Jack Jones - Could be good. Could be Alfonso Dennard.
-Jonathan Jones - Solid slot corner but getting up there in age.
-Dugger - Bill playing him (deliberately?) out of position limiting his effectiveness. Might be gone at the end of the season.
-Peppers - JAG
-JC Jackson (I have faith he will return to form) Lol
