Not sure if it was answered already or not but typically he could retire but the team would still hold the rights to the coaches contract. This can work in driving value down but that’s not always the case.i think this won't be a problem.
The reason for this is:
McVay is able to evaluate talent and improve players. Look at Nacua for example. A fifth rd. rookie is producing like an all pro
i heard rumours after the super bowl that he may retire. If so, can he come out of retirement and come to NE for free? Otherwise it would be too expensive probably and won't happen
regarding Ben Johnson: it's risky i agree but i doubt BoB or Mayo are better options and they are risky too.
