As a fan, I'm glad, but the whole thing smells to high heaven. Character matters. We'll see what sort of career the guy has going forward.

That’s what I remember arguing in the original thread. Intent matters. If he didn’t know he had them - grabbed the wrong bag, someone else packed his bag, etc - then yeah it’s still wrong but it’s not the same as having proven intent to have them. I would be somewhat inclined to believe him as well, since it seems like one of the dumbest things in recent memory - obviously they’re gonna notice your multiple firearms… But regardless, whether one believes him or not, lack of knowledge that they were there seemed like it would be a sound defense.
Let me assure you that lack of knowledge they were they is not a sound defense for 99% of the population.

I mean, what’s the point of even having the law on the books if all you have to do is claim “I didn’t know they were there” to get off?

Rosemary Scapicchio would’ve been able to get all charges dropped against Tony Montana.
When you got 1.3 million undeclared dollars staring into a camera, honey baby, it’s hard to convince a jury you found it in a taxicab.

Some laws require proof of intent and some don't. Difference between murder and manslaughter.

Here apparently they would have had to prove he "knowingly" took the guns through security and they concluded that they could not prove that.
The guns were legally purchased and he had apparently initiated steps to carry them legally in MA.

Do you wish they threw the book at him? 47 other states they would have had a discussion with him and confiscated the gun. No press no nothing.
He didn’t do it in 47 other states, he did it in Massachusetts. The laws in those 47 other states are 100% irrelevant.

What’s the point of us, as citizens, making these laws (and mandatory punishments) through our elected representatives if they aren’t enforced?

As well it should be. It's called Patsfans for a reason. You can go to Jetsfans.com or Patshaters.com if you want a place where Homers are in the minority.
Nah, I will stay right here and tell it like it is.

Presumed innocent not guilty. It looks like he took the right steps and just made a honest mistake...its not like he pulled a hernandez...time to move on....

A lawyer on the news last night said he wasn't surprised at all. Proving intent in a situation like this is tough, as it was clearly knuckleheaded move with little chance of getting through security - and you have to prove intent, otherwise someone could easily set you up.

Also, Jones bought them legally in AZ and was apparently going through the process to properly own them in MA.

Yes, we do have a two-tiered justice system, where the quality of a lawyer is critical in many instances and poor people can't afford a good one. But this case isn't necessarily that.

MassLive has Mark Daniels (formerly of the Providence Journal) and Karen Guregian (formerly of the Boston Herald) - two of the best in this market. Not to mention Chris Mason, who is also really good. It's a terrific - and a solid - source when it comes to anything Patriots-related here locally.

In a market where people are shedding writers, they added two terrific ones. Hopefully, they both stick around for the foreseeable future.
Thanks Ian, I'll give it another go

Whuh huh? I’d be very curious how someone could “easily” sneak a couple guns into my carry on luggage when I’m traveling. That thing never leaves my physical possession except at the moment of going through security.

When you're packing them at home, are you surrounded by your entourage?
Your life in no way resembles Jones' current life experience, I'm pretty sure. Bottom line, an aggrieved partner COULD set someone up. It COULD happen, which is why this particular law include intent. Not all do, but this one does, and for a good reason.

Someone in a rush for the plane grabs the wrong bag on their way out of their house to catch the Uber...should they go to jail for that?

You, as citizens, didn't make those laws. Your elected representatives made those laws. They will probably soon be ruled unconstitutional anyways, but that is a different issue.

The real issue is while he did something wrong, the state can't prove it was anything other than a mistake. They can't even prove that he was the one who packed the bag. From what has been posted everywhere, this is what usually happens in first offenses in these cases. No intent to harm anyone, no intent to circumvent the law, no sweetheart deal, as much as it might upset Felgar. A slap on the wrist and don't do it again.

I have to assume that Gonzo will be used for the big, tall WRs that are so prevalent in the NFL these days, and not used as an all-purpose DB who has to go against the tiny, quick, smurfs. I assume that the defensive coaching crew will scheme things so that Gonzo will only have to cover the big guys. That being said, from what I saw in Training Camp, Gonzo could go step for step with anyone (although I don't remember him going up against Douglas--no one could cover DD that I saw), but he did not always make a good play on the ball...in other words he never seemed to be badly beat, but sometimes did not make the play even though he had good coverage. BTW, I saw Gonzo cover Brenden Schooler like a blanket (when other DBs could not) in punt(?) coverage.

Anyway, having Jack Jones in the clear is a huge development for this team. He was the best CB I saw on the field at Training Camp (Jon Jones was not on the field). This is going to be a wicked tough defense. Expect the Patriots to try to play ball control offense; ball control offense only works when the defense is playing wicked tough.

Another thing I saw in training camp is that the defense has an attitude. They know they are good and take a lot of pride in their play.
Thanks for sharing that experience! Well to me.. it's likely Gonzo will ultimately match up on teams tops guys. I like the approach BB always used of having our Best CB on the #2 and double the number 1. I'd have to assume AJ brown will be doubled. That's the guy you want to take out the game. Having Jack take care of the 3rd option would be ideal for this game. We are so multiple with our formation that we have the depth and versatility to match up in the secondary.

I'm also excited to see how marpu is used as well. Agreed on ball control. The more hurts or Allen or Rodgers is on the side line this season the better. Zeke has something to prove.. I believe he'll be trem for Mac and the offense this season. However it starts with that aggressive on defense!

Fine, but I'm putting him on my personal probation list nevertheless. His guilt is not established but his foolishness certainly is, and not only by this incident.

How do you legally bring a high capacity magazine into Mass and make it legal?

The gun in the luggage isn't a big deal.

The illegal magazine is.

Ha. That’s one of my favorite Scarface lines.

You wanna waste my time? Okay. I call my lawyer. He's the best lawyer in Miami. He's such a good lawyer, that by tomorrow morning, you gonna be working in Alaska. So dress warm.

What do you think goes on here? 10 guys helped him pack a suitcase?

There is nothing “easy” about sneaking 2 guns into someone’s carry on luggage without them knowing. 2 guns (plus the corresponding ammo) in a box are not lightweight features.

You’re making a fool of yourself here. Grabbing the wrong carry on bag is a stretch. Not realizing you grabbed the wrong carry on at any time between getting in the Uber and going through security would take a level of idiocy I just can’t lower myself to comprehend.

What part of “through our elected representatives” did you not understand?
