PATRIOTS NEWS Charges Dropped Against Patriots WR Boutte

Lock might be too strong for my taste. I agree in that he's on the team if I'm predicting it today, but a one-year, $4m deal isn't hard to swallow if he gets beat out by other guys. But yeah, if he's not a lock he's in that next tier after it. He's certainly the front runner for the fifth spot going into camp.
Osborne is NOT the 5th best WR going into camp. Are Baker and Polk really more ready NOW to be contributors?

And I think that he could be our #5, always inactive unless there is an injury.

I would much rather him being in that role than Boutte, who belongs on the Practice Squad.

If Osborne is cut, it would because we want to keep Schuster, who could be one of our top 3 receivers, if we choose.

Why would a run-oriented Offense need 6 WR's on its roster. 5 RB's make more sense, or 4 TE's.

Yes, an inactive spot could open for a few weeks if Bourne is on PUP. Even then, Reagor would seem most likely to be tried out as a KR, likely moving to the Practice Squad when Bourne is ready to play.

Dude are you serious?? After Pop... Osborn is our next best guy the Rookies will have to prove it and Bourne is Hurt. Osborn is basically Bourne who we got in FA many moons ago a consistent player. Also Kirk Cousins spoke very highly of Osborn he maybe much better than regarded.

See, I would agree with you if they were the Tom Brady Patriots playing for a title. But the thing is, they aren't - they are rebuilding and need to develop guys. Does it make so much sense to hang onto the "steady" veteran as your 5th guy who is on a 1 year deal, is mostly a known quantity, and may be gone next year anyway? I see more sense in keeping the younger players who have more potential and more cheap years on their deals even if they do not all pan out. They'll all continue to compete with each other to prove themselves.

Reagor sucks KR's are a dime a dozen we have Marcus Jones.

Did I say he was our fifth best receiver? I said he's the front runner for the 5th SPOT. Unless you think they're going to cut bait with Polk or Baker in year one (something I have seen YOU argue many times has never happened with a 4th round pick or better on this team). Don't mix my words. Polk and Baker may not be BETTER now, but they are certain more of a lock right now than Osborn.

The article (freakin' ESPN) says that the investigators found that he did it. Why have charges been dropped then? Feels like half the report was missing. Typical ESPN chit I guess.
There have been similar cases where the issue was with admissibility of evidence, specifically warrantless use of location data. The state can know for certain that he committed the crime, but that doesn’t matter if they’re not allowed to show the evidence that matters to a jury.

I think the pecking order is:
1. Douglas
2. Osbourne
3. Polk
4. Boutte
5. Baker
6. Tyquan

Bourne - PUP
JuJu - trade
Reagor & the rest: cut or PS

We have more promising receivers than we have room for, so there will be some scrambling to keep as many as possible to get a longer look at them. JuJu looks good now that he's healthy, but is probably trade bait at this point. Tyquan better not miss 1 day of training camp cause he's gotta be on very thin ice.

The one year aspect of the contract backs up your argument. Had he signed for multiple years, then there would be more of an urgency for him to see snaps this year.

But the fact he’s on a one year deal - albeit, it’s also a contract year for him so there’s an incentive on his part to perform well - makes it where he may end up as more of a role player, with the rookies likely seeing a fair amount of time depending on how the coming weeks go.

Either way, still looking forward to seeing things play out. Not a bad problem to have when you’ve got some decent talent to make some decisions around.

Baker #5 really you'll take that post back in week one if he's healthy yeah he's already good.

Very little chance he makes it onto the roster. He's playing for a practice squad spot at this point. High chance he makes it there.

He may beat out JuJu and Thornton... but that still doesn't guarantee him a roster spot if Bourne is healthy and they don't carry 6 WRs:

Locks (assuming health):
Polk
Baker
Bourne
Douglas

Five guys fighting for 1, MAYBE 2 spots:
Osborn
JuJu
Thornton
Reagor
Boutte

He needs to bring something the others don't, or do it at a level in camp that you can't move on from him. But I'm skeptical. There's only so many years you can sell me on "But he had a great freshman year at LSU!" before I ask what he's done since.
I like it. Although I believe KJ Osborne is a lock.. he already said how he's picked up the offense and has a connection with the QBs.. I believe he's a sleeper FA signing. Guys got sure hands, superb route runner and total team first guy.

Basically, you are saying that we shouldn't have signed a veteran. OK.
