Patriots Player Departure Official 2023 Patriots Roster Cutdown Thread (final roster in opening post)

A bit puzzled at the timing of these 2 OT acquisitions.
We all knew the Tackle situation was lacking, so why didn't BB try to bolster that earlier in camp?
1. You spent the whole preseason with crap at OT, so the rest of the evaluations were not fair either
2. You wait until after camp & preseason games, so now these new guys have to try to get up to speed behind the 8-ball.
3. If 1 or both of these guys stick (trading value, not just waiver pickups) then who is gone?
- Sow, McDermott, Reiff??

This is the roster cutdown thread. We have OL threads.

I think most of it is based on last year's TC, and game 1 - the only offensive production we had before he got hurt.
I agree, he's not a sure thing in any category. But, we just don't know if he can be the "Brandon Bolden" type / flex option.
he's certainly more proven than JJ in an all-around role.
Needless to say, we'd be better off bringing in another 3rd-down prospect. Say, like the bust they just traded away for our 15th OT of the year.
I get that the idea of Ty Montgomery is enticing but the reality of him really isn't. JJ Taylor is such an odd situation as he's been with the team for 3 seasons spending much of that time as a practice squad/healthy scratch player. Maybe Montgomery has more upside than Taylor but at this point it's basically comparing to fringe NFL players against each other. I agree on Pierre Strong. I don't know why we draft a guy in the 4th on a team that needs a receiving back then give up on him after a year so we can keep throwing crap against the wall at tackle.

The way they treat him and speak of him is what makes me think they think of him so highly. Do you think they feel good about just Rham, Zeke & JJ as a deep RB position? Also - many thought Strong was the next James White, so there's obviously a vast difference in how the team sees players versus what the fans see.
I think they are thrilled with Rham and Zeke getting almost all the work.
I think Harris RB3 and will mostly be inactive.

Who thought Strong was the next James White????

I haven’t notice abs treatment or speaking about Montgomery that would override what he actually can do on a football field, which isn’t much.
I bet we could find at least a dozen players cut this week that are better RBs than him not even factoring in his age.

The Running back the Jets cut is interesting.

When are the rookies getting their numbers?

Yeah, I guess this is good news but it is a little bit of a weird feeling since Ryland was basically a no-show in preseason.
I honestly think they don't regard preseason games that highly anymore. I think they think it's basically a scrimmage, same as practice. And they saw enough in practice to give Ryland the job.

It sounds like the main knock against him is he needs to bring his kicks lower, so they don't get knocked around by the wind.

Someone (can't remember who) floated the idea that they would get trade offers from teams who were interested, and then ask Folk where he'd prefer to go. I think unless there's a crazy offer like a 5th while everyone else is offering 7ths, that would be a nice way to send the guy off. I don't know if Ryland WON the job necessarily, but he has the longterm upside.
Family lives in Dallas and Dallas’ current kicker is an ex-professional soccer player who didn’t start kicking until 2022. 28-year-old rookie. Seems like a perfect mentor-mentee situation.

3 preseason games where he sucked
Cant fix a weak arm fumblitis, short height and blocked pass attempts
Not even the eagles OL could fix this guy
Should never have been drafted
Sam Howell is better
Did Sam Howell get cut by the Patriots? Wrong thread.
