Tyquan Thornton Having a Tough Camp

Maybe Syracuse, Sicily?

I was reading this page from the top down just now, when I came upon that post of mine and thought Hmmm... sumthin' don't look right...

Yes, but that will never happen. Do you enjoy predicting absurd "doom and gloom" scenarios?
When did stating the facts about how training camp is progressing turn into a 'gloom and doom' prediction? Maybe it only looks gloomy to you because Thornton is struggling to justify his high 2nd round selection?

If Tyquan Thornton doesn’t pan out then he was the 4th-6th round WR that many scouting reports had him graded as, and goes down as yet another Jordan Richards level reach by BB. Could’ve had George Pickens or Alec Pierce, two guys who got taken where they were projected to go. I know everyone goes on about Pickens and I preferred him as well, but Pierce is just as capable of being the go-route guy that BB is hoping Thornton can be. Pierce is an incredible athlete and is bigger and better equipped for contested catches than Thornton with his wiry frame and tiny hands.

It’s a new season and hopefully Thornton can turn it around. I’m not holding my breath.

Huge Alec Pierce fan here reminds me Jordy Nelson.

@VJCPatriot I think we'll see plenty of T Thornton tonight. He's finally healthy and playing with his favorite QB in practice.

IMO had O’Brien arrived last season they would have been contenders. They were a top five defense, all they needed was to be capable on offense.
I don't get the love for O'Brien. Of course anyone will do better than last year's COC (Clusterfvck of Coaching) but I don't see what he's done to merit that kind of confidence.

Go back and look at all of your posts. It’s the same negative **** over and over. So don’t cry about it when someone calls you out about it

Please note bar is set so low.. it can't get worse than last year. So it's obvious Bob is trending at stratospheric levels...allow us some indulgence.

Look at his track record.

The sudden fawning over Alec “53% catch rate” Pierce by some here as a vehicle to criticize Thornton, Bill and the Patriots front office is hilarious. I hope that you guys don’t suffer injuries twisting yourselves into pretzels, while trying to come up with a wide receiver, drafted after Thornton, other than Pickens, who had an impressive rookie year.

In fairness to Pierce, he really blossomed during the second half of his rookie year, showing signs of being a true WR1. JK, he sucked.

Can we at least wait for a young WR to actually make an impact for his NFL team before adding him to the “Bill sucks as a GM. We could have drafted…” list.

If Thornton gets beat out in camp and goes to the practice squad, isn't that just another indictment against our drafting of WRs? The Patriots seem to have no idea what we're doing and wound up maybe getting lucky with a Douglas in the 6th round.
In a way they were lucky, but maybe not quite in the way you are indicating. Troy Brown was all over Douglas since he coached him in the Shrine Game practices and, from what I have seen at Camp, they have developed a special bond.

I would have liked to be a fly on the wall during the Patriots 2023 draft; I am pretty sure that from the 4th round on, Troy Brown was screaming and pulling his hair out as he Patriot picked one JAG after another instead of Douglas. That the Patriots finally picked Douglas near the end of Round 6, was pure luck--luck because none of the other 31 teams picked him first....to their lasting dismay.....I predict that by mid season those other 31 teams will be kicking themselves....and maybe I a GM will lose his job (after the 2021 draft I predicted the John Lynch would lose his job--I can't beleive he still has the position).

And the Patriots have got to give Troy Brown more weight on draft day....they got away with their shilly shallying this time, but...

Pickens, eh? I have not seen a lot of him but last year I watched some college highlights and he seemed to taunt the DB after a catch. He might be a priadonna and drama queen in the lockerroom. He seems like the type of player that BB hates. Thornton, on the otherhand from what I saw with him and the kids at Training Camp), seem like a real nice guy and laid back also.

Don't forget eloquent speaker too Fred that should translate very well on the football field.

I hope we get to see a lot of TT tonight.
Although excitement has been dampened hearing the QB situation. Not fair to try to evaluate Ty or Boutte or Douglas if only McSorely and Malik are throwing (and the patchwork OL).

I understand that with the OL situation we have the QB situation for tonight. But, dang, I was hoping to start to get some clarity re the WR situation. What a situation.

The stakes in PS game 2 will be huge for the bottom of the WR list.

Bill O'Brien inherited a 2 win Texans team, he immediately went 9-7 the next two seasons and had them in the playoffs by season three. Rick Smith his GM was his worst enemy because for some reason he didn't believe offensive line play was important. Deshaun Watson actually led the entire NFL in sacks, eventually the GM was fired and Obie took over that role and pieced together a line, but time was running out for him. In short he won his division four times, his team was one of the least penalized teams in the NFL and he left with the winningest record in Texans history.

What O'Brien did down at Penn State in the wake of the sex abuse scandal was nothing short of amazing. He picked that program up off the mat during it's darkest period. He collected the most wins for a first-year head coach in school history and was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year by both the media and the coaches. He was also named the national coach of the year by ESPN and was awarded the 2012 Paul "Bear" Bryant College Coach of the Year Award.

O'Brien interviewed for the head coaching position with the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. However, he decided to remain at Penn State, stating: "I'm not a one-and-done guy. I made a commitment to these players at Penn State and that's what I am going to do. I'm not gonna cut and run after one year, that's for sure." Shades of what happened last year with him at Alabama, despite interest from New England.

At Alabama he oversaw the #1 then #2 offense in the SEC, I suspect he learned a lot about the college game and will be able to incorporate a lot of it into his new job as a pro. He was a young coach his first time around in the NFL, and he's a lot more experienced now than he was then.

Patricia was a disaster, Obie by default with get them a lot closer to 2021 levels of efficiency at a minimum, but should be able to exceed it assuming they stay healthy.

As a fellow Pats fan I respect you sticking up for Thornton and join you in hoping the kid will finally show up. But I’d say 593 yards as a rookie with the corpse of Matt Ryan throwing to him is respectful. Pierce still averaged more yards per game, his 53% catch rate was still higher than TT’s 49%, he played for longer and he played better. The Colts will struggle again this season between rookie Anthony Richardson and veteran Gardner Minshew, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Pierce takes the next step for them this season as a receiver. He’s already looked like a different player in camp supposedly. And quite honestly, Pierce is part of the discussion because he was and remains a better NFL WR prospect than Thornton.

Putting up 593yds with that pathetic Colts Offense is quite a feat in 2022 that screams Talent to me. I mean they were more dysfunctional than us last year and we spanked them well. We can see why they their awesome RB wants out.

One thing I’m certain of is Pierce on this team would’ve got more than the 247 receiving yards that Thornton finished with. Heck, Pierce already passed that amount in only his 5th game, and that’s counting him laying an egg in his 1st game.
