Here’s what Patriots linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson had to say to reporters during his press conference on Friday, July 25, 2025:
“I didn’t even know Boston would really get hot like this, bro. For real.”
On the fact it feels like he’s sweating non-stop on his birthday:
“I’m telling you. I’m scared to step on the scale, for real.”
On what it’s been like for him here so far:
“Exciting. Really exciting. Excited to be a part of an exceptional franchise like this, for sure. I was just telling a couple of guys, this is my first time being a part of a training camp with so many people out here on the opening day. So I’m feeling the energy and excitement going into this year. I’m looking forward to it for sure. ”
On the fact Vrabel was just saying he expects him to build off last year and if he feels that way:
“Most definitely. Most definitely. Obviously, that’s the goal, obviously, to keep making progress and obviously keep taking steps forward. So I’m going to keep doing everything I can, the best as I can to keep taking them steps forward and obviously make the team better.”
On what was behind the strong end to last season and how does he want to continue that course:
“Man, just keep staying the course, honestly, man. I can’t really tell you if it was really too much different, but just keep doing my thing, just keep playing and keep balling. Obviously, I think I carry a motive of just kind of like, keep my head down, honestly, and keep working. Then whatever results is, is what the result is. But I know for sure that I did my part, and I put it into work, and I let God handle the rest.”
On what the biggest difference is between him when he signed and the guy right now celebrating his birthday as a player:
“That’s a good question. I don’t really know if it’s too much of a difference. I feel like the excitement is definitely building more and more as I get a chance to be on the field with the team and be with the defense and seeing that offense. We play against the offense and getting live reps. It’s a building block for sure. Once again, I’m going to keep telling you, I’m excited going into this year.”
On a day like today where there aren’t as many full-speed reps what his focus is:
“I got to be super intentional. Days like this, obviously, you can kind of slack off a little bit when you don’t have to go hard, probably as intense and as hard. I got to be super intentional with steps and footwork and details and alignments and all the mental reps I can get, whether I’m in or I’m not in. So obviously it’s needed for the body for sure, but it’s something that you got to take your mental even times, too, when it comes to this week.”
On the feeling like on Monday morning when he wakes up knowing the pads are coming on:
“It’s just kind of the same feel. I go out there with the same mindset regardless. Every day, I got to just go ball out and go all in. So thankfully, obviously, we get a chance to put on pads and get just to be a little bit more aggressive and play ball and see how things pan out when you get to go 100 %. So that’s a good feeling that I look forward to going into Monday. But I try to attack every day with the same mindset going into it, man, because you don’t get these reps back. So when you get a chance to, just go all in with them.”
On how comfortable he is in this defensive scheme and if there’s anything similar to what he played in before:
“Yeah, pretty similar. But I think that’s the true thing. I think my identity and just kind of what the defense need me to do, ‘go and get the guy with the ball.’ So that’s just the defense that we all apply, we play with the intensity, making sure we all full speed and full tilt past the whistle. So everything that I kind of amplify and I kind of insert into my game, I think, is all with the identity of the team as well.”
On the fact he talked about mentally staying strong, and what they were working on out there:
“Man, I obviously I do understand that it’s a blessing to be here. I don’t take that for granted. I’ve been on the injury side. I’ve been on the side of not being able to be on the team before. So any chance I get to lace up and put a jersey on and put a logo on my helmet or on my chest and my name on the back of my jersey, I just try to give everything I got during that time, and I let everything else play out. So I don’t try to miss any extra reps I can get out here. I do want to do as much as I can, obviously, for the betterment of myself, but also for the team.”
On the fact he came into the league so young, and if he feels like there’s a lot in his game still left to show:
“I think I got a lot left to show. Obviously, it comes with just being able to be out there and being healthy and be able to play. I feel like we always say the best ability is availability. Being able to be out there in the field and perform with my team and go out there on a consistent basis, that’s kind of what I look forward to.”
On what it’s been like working with Mike’s team and working with [outside linebackers coach] Mike Smith, and how much it’s helped him:
“It’s been great. He’s worked with a few guys of mine that we kind of trained in the offseason. So kind of sharing the same knowledge and passing off with guys that he worked with in the past, the nuggets I can take from him and new things that he can see that I can add to in my game or even polish up a little bit more. He’s been super helpful to everything that I’ve been trying to build. So thankful that I got a chance to work with him, and I’m sure that we’re going to keep building this year for sure.”
On who some of those guys who overlapped that he’s worked with before:
“Obviously, Justin Houston. I got a chance to talk to him this offseason. Rashan Gary, Za’Darius Smith. There’s a couple of those guys that I got a chance to be able to pick their brains and see what they took from Mike, his coaching style, and his game, and what they see. The biggest thing about Mike, for sure, there’s no one way with him. Everybody’s a different type of style of player, different athleticism, different mobility, and whatever it may be, and how they see the game. He’s able to work with everybody, trying to get to understand and trying to find ways that we can still be ourselves and find a way to be an exceptional player and take nuggets from everybody else. So, he’s been, like I said, super helpful, and I’m so grateful that we have him as a coach for sure.”
On how he would describe the role he’s going to play in this defense and how he’ll find an identity:
“Man, I’ll let Mike figure that out. I just would go out there and just do my part, man. I just go ball out to the whistle. Obviously, the main thing I want to do is get to the quarterback and cause havoc in the backfield for sure. But everything else, I try to exemplify and excel in my game as well.”
