Patriots hosting DE Trey Flowers for a visit (Update: He's Agreed to Terms)

Signed. Welcome back Trey.
I am a little surprised, I have to imagine it’s chump change (compared to his last mega-contract) considering his recent injury history. Does he just really love football and wants to play even if it’s for low money? Does he feel like he already “cashed in” and doesn’t need to maximize earnings anymore? Does he think he can look good on low snaps in NE’s system for a year and get one more nice deal elsewhere next year? He is still not quite 30 years old yet, surprisingly.

For any of the above reasons I’m happy to have him back. I’m sure he will be solid enough, and if for some reason he isn’t they’ll just release him.

Bill bringing in guys for no reason.

Trey sure fell off a cliff since leaving the Pats.
Fell off more like jumped off.

you guys are better than me. I can't remember what I had for breakfast today, never mind that long ago!

I think he saw last year what Judon and Uche did. With those two getting Double digit sacks, if Trey is out there with them, its a golden opportunity to feast a little. playing opposite of whichever of the starters is taking a breather for a play.

Probably looking to have a good year and then possibly cash in.

If it's low cost I like it.

Only thing making me a bit nervous here...(I always liked Flowers!):

1. Uche says he is talking extension with Patriots.
2. Judon gets a contract adjustment.
3. Flowers is signed.

Are 2&3 signs that Uche's extension talks have flatlined?

If so, Uche might be traded - we've seen it before. BB loves to sell high.

And yes, pure speculation on my part, but whenever I hear a Pat I like a lot saying they're talking extension and nothing happens fairly quickly, my gut tightens.

On the upside, I was crushed when Flowers left. 3-28 doesn't happen without him. He came up HUGE when it mattered most.

My guess is a low money contract with some incentives, considering how quick it got done
If that is the case. Why not give it a go
We are not talking about a starter here. We already have them on the team
Injuries always derail the presumption that you have a solid group
He knows the system and you know what type of player he is
He may be valuable if someone goes down or you want to spell some starters to keep them fresh.
The contract details will make my final determination

The minimum is close to a million dollars.
It’s not like he won powerball and took a job at the 711 for minimum wage.
Many, many players keep playing after their big money days are over and they have to slim for a million a year

Every move isn’t an indication of something else. Guys who are borderline to make the roster aren’t a signal about the starter.

If you assume on one hand Uche is getting an extension then on the other he is leaving, neither case makes any difference to whether we would sign Flowers.

This has to be a low money incentive based deal with injury contingencies in place in case he gets hurt. They’re not fools.

This is a Guy insurance move in case he starts *****ing about his contract.

With that said, Flowers looks cooked and may not last long in NE.

Like life, nothing is certain in the NFL.

I mean, look at the State Farm actor, Aaron Rodgers. You know, the mud eating, sensory-deprivation tank swimming, homo-sapiens yet hollywood actress marrying guy who got traded to play QB for the New Jersey Jets for a few games this year.

Wow Trey Flowers will be 30 in a week not old for a D-Lineman would like to see how he looks rushing the passer against an actual opponent not this mash unit Patriots OL.

Yep. Low risk-high-upside move.

There is a lot of talk about this team having an elite defense. I see a talented and mostly young group of players who can put a ton of pressure on the QB and create turnovers in the passing game.

The problem is there were too many games last year where they folded in critical situations and didn't make plays when they are required.

If anything, Trey Flowers brings that mentality and that "stoutness" great defenses possess. Whether he can contribute is a different question

.
The signing may be an indication that the team would rather have Flowers than Jennings or Perkins.
