Tyquan Thornton Having a Tough Camp

If Matt Patricia was able to get the ball in Thorton's hands last year, it's hard to imagine we can't integrate him into the offense thus year.

I was Driving the A.J. Brown bus the year they Drafted Harry... what might have been.
Someone else said this, but with WRs, I wish the Pats would just pick the consensus choice rather than based on their own scouting. Their own scouting seems to work so well elsewhere, but top-tier WRs never seem to work.

For the first three rounds anyway. After that they can default back to their own thing and keep occasionally unearthing a Jules, Mitchell, Jakoby, and Demario in the late rounds and undrafted pool.

3) He had a good year last year, but every "highlight" I see of him from Steelers camp is a contested catch in 1-on-1 drills. I'm sure he'll be good again this year, but when Parker makes a contested catch in practice people here say, "He can't separate" but when Pickens does it, it's "Look at this All-Pro". We also see his HIGHLIGHTS from camp while we're getting reports on every throw from Patriots camp. It's like when you see people's posts on Facebook and wonder why they have a better life than you. They don't. They just only post the good stuff.

Hereby nominated for Patsfans Forum Pulitzer for best paragraph of 2023. Particularly strong finishing sentences.

There's obviously something with their internal scoring that is different than the other 31 teams. I have said many times *insert dead horse emoji* that it could be as simple that the position of true, outside the numbers wideouts, has a higher % of divas and maybe that, plus the economics of the position means Belichick looks at these guys the way Don Zimmer used to look at starting pitchers when he was managing the Red Sox in the 70's. (for those that don't know, he hated them). There's no way that they can continue to miss on the position for 20 year unless they simply just pass on guys on purpose. They should have hit on one or two in 20 years even if by accident. At some point, it at least feels like Bill looks at guys coming out like AJ Brown, Cee Dee Lamb, Ja'marr Chase et al and says "pass". To me, there's no other way to explain it. Divas and economics. A high round wideout costs more than a DT or a interior lineman.

Maybe things will change, but this is NOT a good start so far. hasn't been on the field and when he has, no targets, hasn't gotten open.

Demario Douglas is outperforming him as a 6th round rookie. I don't want to say he's a bust, but watching Pickens over at steelers i'm getting very N'keal Harry over like 20 top receivers who are still in the league vibes.
Maybe just me IMO, I'm not to much worried about Tyquan. I believe he'll make this team. He has to much upside not too. I try not to get to high or to low on camp.. there are just so many elements with camp. Guys dealing with ailments, conditioning, recovery from off season procedures.. I believe he's a guy that you ask in a game to carry coverage, with his elite speed whenever he's on the field he's going to carry coverage. I don't believe we should worry about him. He'll be fine. DD is a guy with speed and like a jitterbug, we've been missing that aspect in this offense since Jules left. Heck he may just end up being a starter!

so all you want from a 2d round pick is to "act as a deep threat"? low expectations

That’s obviously not all I want, but the nature of this receiving corps is complementary pieces, not individual stars. I would love to see Thornton turn into Tyreek Hill, but if he can give them a deep threat that defenses have to respect then he will be filling his role on this unit. Two seasons ago they didn’t have a receiver that spread the field from sideline to sideline, or a deep threat to back defenses off, now they have a receiving corps should be able to challenge defenses in every part of the field. They aren’t loaded with top end talent, but they do have a complementary group that can conceivably get the job done now. As far as Thornton goes it’s the beginning of his second season, and that’s far too early to pass judgement on him, especially given the ****bag offense they all had to deal with last season.

There's no way TT doesn't make the team. He must be dealing with a sore hamstring or something

It's weird how he had a better camp his rookie year than this year. But hearing this is concerning as this is a league where offensive players have the ability to hit the ground running early. History is not the Pats side when a WR or draft pick in general is having a hard time by their 2nd season. If he can't get on the field this season, it's likely Bill took the wrong guy again.

Many posters were upset they passed on Pickens on draft day.
Was tyquans rookie preseason hype as much as Meyers or Bentley or Douglas for now ? I thought he had moments but not something overwhelming .

Maybe tyquan will end up a decent wr 3 / wr 4 and that would be a huge win for us.
400 yard / 2-3 TD might be his ceiling.

IF Douglas and Boutte are the real deals it would make sense to Trade K Bourne and keep Tyquan. He's still on the books for three years counting this one.
Wrong. Having a guy who has done and is doing nothing on the books for three years is far from good reason for dumping an accomplished NFL performer.

Rare bread…

I don't think he can do it with just speed, and whatever other ability he has, unless it's as a decoy.

If he can't gain real respect as an NFL receiver, he might as well end his career now anyway.
He has other ability?

what? Casting the narrowest shadow on the team?

Belichick drafted Aaron Dobson over Keenan Allen, that was a major miss.

Lmao-someone apparently thinks drafting Dobson over Allen was the right move.

Where? On the sidelines?

I‘m not impressed:
2022 season stats ; REC. 22 ; YDS. 247 ; TD. 2 ; AVG. 11.2

I’m not too much worried about him not making the team. If he doesn’t it’s because there were too many better players ahead of him. That’s not a bad thing.

Conventional wisdom says Tyquan Thornton have a higher ceiling than K Bourne. The hope is that his ceiling is DeVonta Smith or a poor mans version.
