If Kayshon Boutte and Demerio Douglas continue to ascend, Tyquan Thornton may become expendable.

IF Douglas and Boutte are the real deals it would make sense to Trade K Bourne and keep Tyquan. He's still on the books for three years counting this one.

Side note: Tre Nixon seems to be coming on I would hate to lose him for nothing.

That would be good *IF* Tyquan can contribute.

They've got to get him going on WR screens to open up his game.

After he heals, which might be the real problem.

Nope we need him as a boundary WR no screens with that fragile fame he won't make it through the trash. That would be a quick way to end his career.

crazy to label Thornton anything at this point

Context is important:
He was a rookie last year in a completely dysfunctional offense, so last year did nothing to help understand what he is
Early training camp was primarily redzone offense, which is not Thorntons strength.. hes a straight line burner in open field, not a redzone threat

He can be a TD Threat from 20 to 40 yard out Mac needs the make those throws to him easy TD's.

I don't think he can do it with just speed, and whatever other ability he has, unless it's as a decoy.

If he can't gain real respect as an NFL receiver, he might as well end his career now anyway.

Tyquan have a pretty good release package he's not a one trick pony. He has a very sudden release and was missed many times by Mac last year early in his progressions.

Tbh what are tyquans real strength outside of speed. I have heard knockdowns on his route running and spatial awareness i.e. where the markers are etc. But if he can't accelerate after getting dinged by a CB and takes more than 3 seconds to develop separation , then he is probably in the wrong team.

Our offensive line is so so and will require wide receivers to be open around 2 - 3 seconds . That's why juju and DD are going to be key along with gisecki and Henry .

I am not sure a burner with inability to draw dual coverage will be useful to us .

I think BOB worked with that Guy below many moons ago in Houston Tyquan might be similar BOB can scheme him open.

Good point. Mac's got to look for him. And there needs to be success in that to reward Mac for looking T's way. Once there's a few successful connections it will build on itself. But ... none of that can happen with Boney T in the tub.

I think it's entirely possible that Thornton can start popping in camp or practice, like Boutte has just started to do, but he's got to get healthy enough to participate.

It's weird how he had a better camp his rookie year than this year. But hearing this is concerning as this is a league where offensive players have the ability to hit the ground running early. History is not the Pats side when a WR or draft pick in general is having a hard time by their 2nd season. If he can't get on the field this season, it's likely Bill took the wrong guy again.

Many posters were upset they passed on Pickens on draft day.

I’m not going to write him off. If Thornton can simply act as a deep threat he will be fulfilling his role here, and given his speed that’s not a big ask. I would be more concerned if he was expected to be an all around receiver and wasn’t picking up the offense, but run fast and go deep aren’t especially confusing concepts. If you can catch two deep balls a game then defenses have to back off and respect that, and if he can’t provide that much then he will be a bust, but that’s not the case yet.
so all you want from a 2d round pick is to "act as a deep threat"? low expectations
