Tyquan Thornton Having a Tough Camp

I’m not going to write him off. If Thornton can simply act as a deep threat he will be fulfilling his role here, and given his speed that’s not a big ask. I would be more concerned if he was expected to be an all around receiver and wasn’t picking up the offense, but run fast and go deep aren’t especially confusing concepts. If you can catch two deep balls a game then defenses have to back off and respect that, and if he can’t provide that much then he will be a bust, but that’s not the case yet.
I was thinking just 2-3 home run balls in the first half of the season. Enough for any opposing team to say, "We need to watch out for this guy. Let's watch the tape."

Again I will say that the comp for Thornton is Will Fuller, not a route runner like Smith.
Unlike Fuller hopefully Thornton’s luck gets better injury wise.

When on the field Fuller was a player defenses had to account for. Maybe Thorntons value isn’t as a stat sheet filler but a guy whose speed changes how opposing defenses play against our offense.

I’m not at all confident he will. If he does, I hope it’s because he steps his game up not because the other candidates slipped to his level. I do hope he does, but doubt he will.
Have to remember.. N'Keal Harry and Jouann Williams remained on this roster for years. They were both 1st and 2nd rounders in 2019. Tyquan showed more in his rookie season of potential then the both of them combined did in 3 years. He'll be fine. Can't get to worked up or to excited from camp. Wait until the joint practices come about it's more competitive than a drill in camp.

Agree completely. He needs to stay healthy and at least provide a viable deep threat. They don’t need 90 receptions out of him, but they need 50 plus with a high YPC and YAC.That would give them the deep threat to back defenses off, and give him a foundation to build in.

I’d like to see more than that, but giving them a threat to open the field up for everyone else is his primary role. This isn’t a star studded receiving corps, but it’s better than the Chef’s, and better than a number of units Brady had to win with. I think most here give Jones something of a pass for last season, but he has no excuses this season. Jones has a real OC, and plenty of receiving options, even though they aren’t the best in football. Only a few teams get that honor, everyone else has to go with what they have.

Yeah my original "holy crap look at that 40 time" feeling toward TyQuandary is fading. I hope he proves me wrong, but he just might be fool's gold. When I read about Boutte and even moreso, Demario Douglas, I'm like "Tyquan WHO?"

That's it, let's just trade away rounds 1-3 from now on.

Seriously, that's why the rest of the league didn't think this repeated confiscation of first rounders from us was enough.... it's because we can't do **** with early round picks to start with. They're like, "F that, take away a 4th and a 5th, hit them where they live!"

Go-to answer to draftniks from now on with all their sexy theories and projections: Nope. Trade the pick.

Ability to carry coverage, get down field, he did actually make a catch in case you missed it.
So that’s worthy of a roster spot? That’s what we are looking for from our WRs?

The first game of the season is a month away, we've just finished week one.

There's a lot of time between then and now, there's a lot of practices, joint practices and preseason.

Rome wasn't built in a day.

At least he'll have a career, though?

OG George is my guy. I love him but don't think it would work here with Bill. Pickens father was crazy and George is his daddy's son.
No doubt I'd rather have Pickens production than what we currently have with Thornton.

Carl was a good WR wasted on such bad Bengals teams.

Ah... getting down field, carrying coverage. Yes I'd say that's what we are looking for In a WR. Fact is the kids fine.. he will be in the plans going forward.

You have a problem with receivers that draw coverage, have speed and catch the ball?

Pickens had 1.3 more catches per game than Thornton, who was also limited by injury, and behind due to missing the end of camp and first month of the season

I don’t think needing someone else to make those 1.3 catches in his rookie season will have any career defining difference.

He might be, and I hope he works out, but carrying coverage and getting downfield isn’t the expectations of him

Ok.. you got me! Catching the ball as well.

Nope, I have a problem with WR who gets 22 receptions and 2 TDs in a year.

I’m all hopes that he breaks out and has a good year, and carrying coverage is nice, but production is what a WR is judged on.

Agreed. If his route running is bad, don't we think teams could do with him by just employing zone and Mac is not really great with zone. And if that happens how is he going to open up the field for others.

22 catches in an injury plagued rookie season in a dysfunctional offense isn’t something to really have a problem with.

Speaking of Thornton perhaps some of you fantasy experts can help me.

Dynasty 2 qb Superflex PPR I was offered Jahan Dotson and Sam Howell for Jamaal Williams Baker Mayfield and Tyquan Thornton. Would you pull the trigger? My thinking is I would be getting the best player in the bunch with Dotson.

He was injured for the fist quarter of the season, he played catch up the rest of the year.. getting coaching from judge and Patricia is like learning a foreign language that you'll never be able to understand. He still made plays.. I'm sorry if you were looking for randy Moss
