(Edited Title:) Writer thinks Zappe is winning the QB "battle"?

I thought that was the way it works the original Starter gets the loss??
Yes that’s how it works. Still annoys me that Brady had to accept a “loss” in week 17 last year when they pulled the starters to give him his first losing season. That has an asterisk in my book

Fields was the 10th pick in 2021. Zac Wilson was #2 and Trey Lance was #3. Both are now perma-benched.
Thanks got my Drafts confused there.

Yes, Jones got the loss that night:

Doesn't really matter in the context of this conversation, but that is the case.
LOL This isn't baseball. First time in 60 years of watching this game that I can recall someone arguing about whether a QB should be credited with a win or a loss.

Well -- it's actually all too easy to miss on high QB picks. From the 2021 class, so far only Trevor Lawrence has proven himself as worth the pick.
That is true. Crazy hearing how this was one of the best classes of all time and now not so much. I think Mac at 15 and as the 5th Qb off the board was fine although in hindsight it’s too bad they couldn’t move up for a game changer on defense like Parsons.

I don't agree - had Zappe gone out and put up 30+ after the way Mac played, I absolutely believe Zappe would have remained the starter. Belichick would have then had the opposite issue of explaining to his players why he wasn't playing Zappe, especially following every loss where Mac didn't play well. There have already been reports this offseason that there was a divide in the locker room as it was.
If that report was true then I wonder if some players were rubbed the wrong way by Mac’s hysterics on the field and sidelines. Wouldn’t surprise me. I felt the same watching.

I think Fields showed why he was the Second overall pick in his Draft that night career night and game.

This was my take that night during the game:

I believed it then, and I still believe it now had he kept pouring it on that night:

I absolutely don't see how they could have gone back to him if Zappe had not only brought them back but led them to a blowout win.

There was a rumor that BB had Mills rated similarly to Mac and would have been fine taking Mills in round 2. Sounded reasonable after 2021 but Mill sh*t the bed last year and is now a backup.

True, but Mac couldn't move that night and it was obvious. It's a little odd to start a guy coming off a high ankle sprain on a cold, wet night on that turf, especially knowing he wasn't 100%. Again, Belichick should never have started him to begin with.
His mobility looked fine from what I remembered. He actually took off and ran several times.

And BB tried handing it to Zappe in the Bears game and Zappe took that opportunity and vomited all over himself vs the 32nd ranked defense.

If that’s what we have to look forward to with Zappe starting- no thanks. Gimme a good QB in the draft next April.
A defense that Jones didnt last 15 minutes.

Again, I get you hate him and you'll either be right or you won't. As I've already mentioned, the two won't be on the roster together a few years from now, so it's all going to come down to how he plays whether or not it's him or it's Zappe calling signals here three years from now.
Those are the facts.

If you can show me who he beat out for the job I would be interested.

If you lived down here and knew how much pressure Saban is under year in and year out (anything less than a National Championship is a failure), Jones wouldn’t have started if Saban didn’t believe he was the better choice ahead of the freshman. If you honestly believe he “handed” Jones a job he didn’t earn, I don’t know what else to tell you.

Again, one of the two eventually won’t be here. And Belichick will keep whichever one he believes will help them win. He won’t take a hit to protect anyone, and Jones - after what transpired last season if the reports are true - certainly won’t be someone he’ll go down with if he ultimately believes Zappe is the better option.

You need to read this (it's actually really good):

This thread is pointless because there is no QB competition. Zappe is playing with and against the 2's and Mac is playing with and against the #1s.

So no matter how much felger and mazz and the zappe crowd want to make it seem. It's just not happening yet.

Someone paid by Team Mac obviously spliced Mac in the camp highlight videos over Zappe who was really working with the 1’s. Zappe is quietly winning this thing I tell ya.

Jones is a real barrel of laughs.

The Joker.

Tua left for the draft and Jalen Hurts transferred to Oklahoma. Did that not leave Jones as the Alabama QB by default? Fast forward to 2021. Cam was cut after getting Covid again. So, he could not practice. Did Jones beat out Cam for the NE QB job while Cam was in quarantine? Looks that way.

Kinda funny. The Joker strikes again.

Can anyone recommend a good brand of champagne?

Looking for a case.

That explains why teams have been lining up to try and get Cam to come out of retirement ever since.
